Enter the superfoods! According to the latest research, we can all eat ourselves beautiful by selecting optimum health-giving and antiageing superfoods. The natural ingredients boost our immune systems and protect us from the free radicals which have a dramatic effect on the ageing process. The search for eternal youth has been given a boost by this research as it gives us an easy and enjoyable way to stay looking and feeling younger without expensive creams, radical procedures or surgery. Who would have thought the humble kiwi fruit could pack such a

punch, but this little green hairy fruit can help us battle with the wrinkles along with the best of them. Each furry fruit contains more potassium than a banana and more vitamin C than an orange. Potassium aids with the elasticity in your skin – often damaged by smoking – and vitamin C is great for cell-repairing. Recent studies indicate that the kiwi is the most nutritionally dense fruit, richer in minerals, vitamins and anti-oxidants than any other. It is also rich in vitamin E, another vitamin that is great for your skin and contains as much fibre as a bowl of All Bran which helps to purge your body of toxins. Next on the list are blueberries and these little purple fruits are packed with bioflavonoids which strengthen your blood vessels and prevent

leakage and breaking. Recent tests on rats also show blueberries reduce cholesterol and decrease the absorption of fats too, particularly around the abdomen, Bring it on! Combine these fruits with a diet rich in eggs, spinach, broccoli and bananas and you are onto a winning formula for more youthful skin and body. Read our article about the value of sleep and you will reap further rewards. With longer days, we are able to turn our attention to exercise again and start that fitness regime we may have abandoned over the Winter. Have you noticed the amount of runners of all ages and sizes which seem to be pounding the streets of Horsham? I am full of admiration, especially for those who run in the morning and

‘Tree stories’ return to Horsham Park this month The programme of tree walks in Horsham Park, which proved to be so popular last year, is to start again this month. This year, evening walks are added to the programme to allow working people to participate. The first walks will be conducted on Wednesday evening (18 May) and Thursday morning (19 May) and start from Horsham Park bandstand (access is via the rear of Park House in North Street, Horsham) — see below for the full programme. There are over 40 different varieties of native and imported trees in the park and it’s a perfect place to learn to identify the different species. The free to attend Horsham Park tree walks take place during the summer, last up to 1½ hrs and are led by Michael McCabe, tree warden with Denne

Neighbourhood Council. Speaking recently, Michael said: “Trees are something we tend to take for granted; like the sea or the sky, they’ve always been there. “While we can appreciate their beauty, we might not be aware of the many other different ways in which they contribute to our society, our environment, and our history.” Horsham Park’s tree walks, or “Tree Stories”, are a light hearted way of exploring those aspects, as well as providing fresh air, light exercise and the basics of tree identification. The walks are part of the wider programme of Horsham District Council’s Health Walks scheme. Further information about all health walks is available online at www.horsham.gov.uk or by calling 01403 215269.

then emerge perfectly groomed for work after a quick shower. I just could not do this without looking dishevelled and red in the face. I have a friend who runs and her perfect ponytail flicks back and forth in perfect timing as she maintains a perfect pace and timing. Respect! I am embarking on swimming again and trying to fit it into my busy schedule can be a bit of a problem. Last week I arrived at the changing room to disrobe and discovered I had picked up my teenage daughter’s itsy bitsy bikini. I heaved a sigh of nostalgia as I looked at the bits of dental floss making up the garment and then made a hasty beeline for the reception sales area to purchase another rather expensive swimsuit. Maybe if I eat enough blueberries I will one day be able to wear such an item again. No.

Janine Lowe, our feng shui expert, gives us her advice this week. As always we talk about clutter, ensure you do not have piles of paperwork in front of you as this will hinder your view of the future. If you have clutter behind you it will be like carrying it on your back so you will feel weighed down with your workload. File everything neatly beside you. Let the chi flow through your desk so there will be no blockages in your career decisions. Place your phone to the right of your desk, a light to the right of your desk, if you want a photo of your family or a vase of flowers (change the water daily to encourage positive chi) place it to the left. Place your diary and in-tray to the left of your desk to encourage positive chi. Your desk drawers should be decluttered regularly, that odd paper clip or those staples should be disposed of now...
