B IOGR APHY

My name is Tzu Yu Theresa Hsu. It sounds like a normal name, but it was named by a greatest woman in the world-Mother Teresa. I was born in Chicago, but I grow up in Taiwan. I live in a warm and lovely family. My father always told me, “To think about how to make our world become better place more than earn lot money.” His words has significant effect for every step in my life, and it actually gave me different thought to explore the meaning of my life’s goal. When I finished The General Scholastic Ability Test in Taiwan, I chose Landscape architecture design for my undergraduate major. It was my first time to know the relationship between space, people and environment. When I was a freshman, my design courses were mainly related to concepts of space, form and shape. Through creative projects, I learned to think up and beyond. When I was doing the design projects, I realized design can affect people and nature. Design can reduce pollution to our environment, and design can convey environmental awareness to our society. This experience allowed me to discover different type of design skills or functions. Also, it helped me to learn about how important of sustainable design. Because of my college education, I realize to be a good designer is not just creating a comfortable space for people, but also protecting our environment and earth. College was a turning point in my life. After I graduated from college, and I found out outdoor spaces are limited in some urban cities, such as Taipei and Tokyo. Therefore, I started to think nature elements actually can explore to interior space. If I can design inside and outside space together, it might be able to create more functional and sustainable space for people and our environment. That is the reason that I chose interior architecture design for my master degree major. It’s not only a new field that I can explore and practice, but also is a good major to improve my background. Life for me is not finding myself, it is about creating myself. I enjoy leaning and discovering new things. In fact, while I was studying in United States, I found out different design thinking and vision that I never noticed before. Most important thing for me is that designs is not only create a beautiful art, but also improve our world become a better place to our next generation.

Make new dialog in the office and pop-up store ( Home Office & Minimalism style )

When Design Milk starts, they don’t have a physical commercial space for their employees. Everyone works in their homes and write design articles from their cities or countries. Therefore, I want to remain this home atmosphere into the future office. I am going to create a cozy space for the staff can easily chat and make a new design dialogue in their work station. In addition, Design Milk character more likes modern and minimalism style. Besides, the pop-up store and showroom can be designed to public or half open spaces for employees. Thus, I want to design a space that can use minimal forms and modern materials to achieve my concept. Therefore, I created a big house shape for the showroom. Also, I minimized the house shape into the pop-up store display area. This way can increase more vision space also connect with Design Milk style.

Gathering Space for People Creating a space for people easily to gather and chat in the office area.

Sustainable Building Materials I will chose sustainable materials or cradle to cradle building materials to this interior space and the furniture.

Office Furniture System Living office furniture system and movable walls can change the size or hind from the space. It can create more working area for employees.

CONCEPT - MODERN PARADISE

Modern Paradise is a good term for this area because Hayes valley mixes with many high-end boutiques, restaurants, and housing complexes. Also, this neighborhood surrounded by a lot Victoria house style. It makes people feel they are not shopping in the concrete urban city. I think this neighborhood gives people a cozy and relax feeling compare with other shopping area. Therefore, I want to bring this concept to the Azalea store. Also, I use simple and modern form to connect its brand’s style.

WESTERN MOVIE STYLE PREFAB MODERN HOUSE

In 1911, film director Thomas Ince created his Western film factory in this area, and it called “Inceville. It is really interesting history for me to develop my concept. In addition, prefab-home becomes more and more popular in these days, and it is a good idea for sustainable design. Therefore, I plan to design a space which can combine western movie and prefab mid-century style to make a outstanding guest house in this neighborhood.
