Canine Corner Let’s meet new CMKC member Dr. Michelle Wiberg

Chris and Michelle Wiberg with their GSP’s Ember and Presley (son of JJ)

Greetings! I am the proud owner of 3 German Shorthaired Pointers (and co-owner of several more) that I do a variety of competitions with including conformation, obedience, rally and hunt testing. I grew up with Lhasa Apsos that my mom bred and showed until us kids took up too much time, then they became just pets. My husband Chris and I acquired our first GSP, Tori, in 2012 after I graduated from vet school from the U of MN CVM. Tori was primarily Chris’s hunting dog, but I eventually showed her to her Championship and Grand Championship before deciding I wanted my own dog. After further proving Tori’s potential by titling in her obedience, rally and hunting, we

made her our foundation bitch and eventually had 3 big healthy litters. We kept a puppy from each of her first 2 litters, JJ and Ember. JJ is now 5 and a half and is just a few points from his Grand Champion Gold He also has his rally Master, CD, and Master Hunter. Ember is now 4 and a half and is a Grand Champion, Rally Excellent, CD, and Master Hunter. We have plans to breed her in the near future and continue to title both pups in higher levels of obedience and rally. Momma Tori has produced 10 Champions, 5 Master Hunters, and many more title get in obedience, rally, agility, hunting and trick dog. She is now crowned a Registry of Merit XX with the GSPCA, the highest level of honor a producer can achieve based on the accomplishments of her offspring! I have loved getting new GSP puppy owners involved in AKC Sports. We are so proud of all that our puppies have gone on to accomplish and all the hard work our puppy owner have put in to training and titling their dogs! You may see some of our GSP puppies under the kennel name Chrishelle at some of the shows and trials. Come up and say hi!

The Chrishelle GSP’s at the Summer Solstice Show in 2019, taking a clean sweep of the specials placing.

I have already had the opportunity to volunteer at a CMCK obedience and rally trial and plan to help the club begin to host Hunt Tests in the future. I am a long time attender of the Summer Solstice show and plan to continue my involvement with the show in the years to come. I look forward to meeting more members at future events.

FALL/ISSUE 2021

We now have a coming 3 year old son named William that I hope to get involved with dog sports as he gets older. Just look for the red head with the spotty dogs and possibly a pre-schooler in tow!

Thank you Michelle, it’s great to get to know you better and great to have you be a part of our club!

Any members that would like to provide a bio or would like to be interviewed for our next Howler new member “Canine Corner” section please contact the Editor, Theresa Goiffon @ theresaagoiffon@msn.com

WATCH: NY Veterinarians Prevent Dogs From Choking on Toys With Life-Saving Techniqu Eye-opening videos of veterinarians on Long Island saving two large dogs from choking on their toys are raising awareness of a life-saving measure Think Heimlich maneuver, but for dogs. The staff at West Hills Animal Hospital & Emergency Center in Huntington say owners of two unrelated dogs rushed into the center within an hour of each other. One of the dogs was choking on a tennis ball, the other was choking on a rubber ball. Both of the canines were in life-threatening conditions, the veterinarians said The staff members say they quickly performed what is called the external extraction technique to remove the toys and prevented the dogs from suffocating "Most often, panicked vets will try prying the ball out of the back of the dog’s throat with their hands or forceps instruments, which has a high rate of failure, and the dog will then require emergency tracheotomy to prevent suffocation, the center said in its Facebook post. "Sometimes, many times, it’s too late.
