To drive awareness of Virgin Balloon Flights as an optimal gift for Christmas through interactive radio competitions on key stations in the brand’s target areas.

The premium prize, which held high value attracted national as well as multiple major commercial radio stations including BFBS, the Smooth radio network, Free Radio regional network, and Signal 1.Remaining within the parameters of Virgin’s target areas, we reached and exceeded their expectations.

THE EXECUTION A premium prize from a well-known and much respected brand coupled with the timely hook of Christmas meant that on-air radio competitions were the perfect route to coverage for the campaign. It promoted the brand’s key messages through experience – ultimately engaging their target demographic.

To ensure that the widest possible audience is aware of and interested in the subject matter of Paulo Coello’s new book, O Aleph, and open up debate the UK’s shift in religious and spiritual beliefs through radio interviews.

Book launches are vastly covered across BBC radio, and due to the subject matter of Paulo Coello’s new release BBC radio presenters were particularly keen to run the interview, with highlights including a live interview on BBC Radio London, BBC Radio Cornwall and BBC Radio Merseyside. It was also of National interest, with coverage being secured across the Sunrise Radio network.

THE EXECUTION In order to fulfil the brand’s goal to open up conversation on the book’s subject matter, radio interviews were the perfect route to coverage for the campaign. To add credibility to the story, we sourced an independent social psychologist to act as a spokesperson on behalf of Taylor Herring. Dr Rogers was able to provide context and reliability to the research and conversation points.

To mark the launch of the show ‘Suits’ on Dave and highlight the results of Dave ‘Suits’ report showing how many people lie on and embellish their CVs to get a job.

The covert link between the brand and story proved to be popular with both national commercial and BBC radio coverage, resulting in interviews being secured on the likes of LBC, talkSPORT, BBC Radio 5 Live, and BBC Radio Scotland.

THE EXECUTION Radio interviews were a route to coverage, which worked perfectly to optimise awareness of the show alongside the brand’s television advertising. Use radio interviews to communicate the journey of Benji Bennett in creating the Adam’s Cloud series of books to commemorate the life of his child who tragically died, and raise awareness of the UK launch of all six books through WH Smith.

Having the author and father as a spokesperson attracted radio presenters nationwide, as it created a truly touching story, which had very few commercial ties. Highlights included coverage on BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC Radio Devon, BBC Radio Stoke, and BBC Radio Berkshire. This campaign is a perfect example of how the strong relationship between a spokesperson and an emotive story can create success.
