….is a new series of activity sheets for toddlers. They are a great tool for you to use to help your toddler develop their communication and language skills.

Make a posting box in May!

Take it in turns to post pictures or items through the hole into the box, encouraging your child to choose what they post and to name the items as they go.

You can download the activity sheet from our website, www.theredoak.org.uk where it can be found under ‘activities and events’, or scan the QR code with your mobile. Check out our website for more ideas of activities you can do with your toddler. Why not have a go and see what fun you can have together!

Summer is coming…. ….and we are starting to plan our summer holiday programme! We would love to hear your ideas of activities and events that you would like us to run during the summer holidays. So let us know what you and your family would love to take part in and help us plan a fun filled summer for everyone!

‘Hello’ from our new Outreach Worker…. Hi, my name is Jane Morgan and I am the new Outreach worker here at The Red Oak. I have now been here two weeks and have settled in nicely! My back ground is early years education, supporting child-minders and children who have additional needs; with Croydon Local Authority. What a real change from the hustle and bustle of grid locked Croydon to the suburbs of Reigate & Banstead! My biggest accomplishment has been to negotiate single track roads and stubborn tractor drivers and my biggest challenge has been to change the toilet rolls, sadly to no avail! It is a real privilege to work with a great team and I look forward to getting to know the families who use the Centre.

These are the activities provided by the Children’s Centre (or by our partners) that are open to all our families with children aged 0-5. In addition, we host or run some groups or activities that are only open to some families, or which need an appointment to attend. These do not appear on the calendar, so don’t worry if you are coming to an appointment that isn’t showing! We reserve the right to change the programme at short notice and recommend you check before attending. Many of the courses we run at the Children’s Centre are free and although some activities have a suggested donation these are not intended to prohibit families from attending. Fees may be charged for the services we provide for other professionals and for courses and activities run by external companies.

The Parenting Puzzle is a 10-week course, presented in a friendly, informal way which encourages parents and carers to enjoy bringing up children and get the best out of family life. The course can help us to understand how emotions influence our actions, and offers many positive, practical ways of guiding children so they learn to handle both their feelings and their behaviour. It suggests ways of helping us feel good - boosting self-esteem in ourselves and in our children and has activities for parents to take part in. It’s open to parents and carers of all ages and only costs £20 (although you can pay weekly if you wish) which covers the cost of your book and refreshments. Unfortunately there will be no crèche facilities for this course. Start date: Tuesday 7th May 2013 Time: 9.15am- 11.15am Venue: Furzefield Primary School Delabole Road, Merstham, RH1 3PA For more information, or to book your place on the course, please call us on 01737 645908, email info@theredoak.org.uk or speak to Christine Harper. Are you and your child getting enough vitamin D? All women who are pregnant or breastfeeding are advised to take a daily supplement of vitamin D. All infants and children from 6 months to 5 years should be given vitamin drops unless they are drinking at least 500ml (1 pint/20oz) or more of infant formula.

Due to a change in legislation we are unable to supply Healthy Start vitamin drops from the Children’s Centre as we would now need a wholesaler’s drugs licence to distribute them. They can be purchased from your local supermarket or chemist. You can still buy your Vitamin D (10mg) tablets from the Children’s Centre. (We can also take the Healthy Start vouchers for the tablets.)

We are now collecting Sainsbury’s Active Kids Vouchers. Please bring them to the centre and pop them in the box in reception. Thank you.
