New Faces & New Places Two new faces will be representing the Chamber and its members starting this June. We are excited to welcome Kristie Maravalli to the newly expanded role of Director of Membership and we say hello to Sue Nilsson in the new role of Member Benefits and Programs Manager. Kristie comes to us from Shaker Heights, Ohio, from a previous 14-year position of Head Woman’s Basketball Coach at John Carroll University in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. She by no means is a stranger to the Quiet Resorts area, as she has owned a home in Sea Colony for many years. And… according to Chamber Executive Director David Martin, Kristie will make an impact here. “The mainstay of NCAA athletics is recruiting students and their families to your program, he said. Kristie has spent her career in member service and promotions in a way that far surpasses a level of selling a product or a one-time transaction. She knows how to build relationships. Her talent for public speaking, team building and marketing opportunities will continue to take the Chamber in a more member-focused and networking-driven direction.” “The Chamber’s focus needs to be first and foremost on membership value”, Martin said. How we support, promote and create opportunities for our membership through marketing, creative commerce-driven events, free educational programs and business driven advocacy will influence bottom-lines and member success.” This brings us to a familiar face to many Chamber members… Sue Nilsson. The new role of Member Benefits and Programs Manager will create opportunities for our members and make a Chamber membership even more valuable. Sue has a long history of marketing expertise and community involvement. Originally from the Washington D.C. area, Sue was a marketing professional at both R.H. Donnelly and Bell Atlantic where she specialized in marketing research and strategic planning. She also owned her own marketing research firm that conducted focus groups and provided other marketing services. A long-time Meals-on-Wheels volunteer, she joined the staff of CHEER several years ago to manage the program for them in lower Sussex County. She previously owned the Coastal Gourmet Shoppe in Ocean View and it was during that experience she first became involved with the Chamber. She was the Chamber’s 2008 Ambassador of the Year and is currently the president of the Selbyville Public Library Board of Commissioners. Sue will have an impact on how we present memberships and bring more value to being a part of the Chamber,” Martin said. “And, as a Selbyville resident, she will also increase our reach and involvement in our inland towns.” The very talented Jennifer Idzi remains in the areas of Media, Design and Member Relations and will continue to impact the Chamber’s marketing, design and branding initiatives. As her work on the NEW 2013/14 Visitors Guide shows… the Quiet Resorts keep looking better and better! So as the busy summer travel season begins and roads and beaches start to seem a little “less quiet”, some new faces join some familiar ones… sure to take your Chamber to new places.

Wow, what a day! The final count of the 24th Annual Ocean to Bay Bike Tour was well over 1,900... a major growth from 2012. Cyclists enjoyed a scenic ride through our beautiful area including the countryside, beach towns, bays and parks. While apprehensions about the weather kept the cyclists wondering, the morning dried out just in time for a great ride with perfect temperatures. The event wouldn’t have been possible without the continued support from the following local businesses. A huge “thank you” to our sponsors! May Connect for Coffee

Business was truly held “after hours” at PNC Bank’s Bethany Beach branch. Over 65 members enjoyed networking at this kick-off to summer themed networking event. Hot dogs fresh from the grill, and drink from the cooler along with sand buckets and beach towels gave us a little taste of the summer to come. Spotlight tables All About U Salon & Spa, DelMarVa Boardsport Adventures and Woodsong Country Inn. Thank you to the spotlight tables and Hyatt Place Dewey Beach, Automated Copy, for the generous donations of April’s door prizes!

The Bookend Cafe hosted a caffeinated Connect for Coffee on Thursday, May 2nd. Many members stopped by for a cup of coffee and to say hi, while some stayed to chat for the entire time! This Fenwick Island treasure is not only a great place for a hot or iced cup of coffee, latte or breakfast sandwich, it is also filled with books, puzzles and other great gifts ideas. Thank you to Devin Clark, Key Advisors Group for providing the delicious sticky buns for sampling. Hope to see you at the next one in October!

Spring Golf n’ Gab

While members strolled in from the Golf n’ Gab, other joined us straight from the office. Nearly 70 members mixed, mingled and networked at the evenings After Hours, while enjoying light fare from Cripple Creek Golf and Country Club. The Freeman Stage and Cripple Creek Golf and Country Club were in the spotlight, a great opportunity to network with a captive audience. Door prizes were generously donated by The Freeman Stage, Automated Copy, and the Hyatt Place Dewey Beach. Thank you to our wonderful host Cripple Creek and their very attentive team! Join us for the June Business After Hours at WSFS Bank in Ocean View. 4 |

Five terrific foursomes hit the links at Cripple Creek Golf & Country Club in Dagsboro before the After Hours. This 9-hole scramble was a great time for those who registered to enjoy beautiful weather on an impeccable course while gabbing... all business of course. Cripple Creek generously awarded the winners of the outing a free foursome for each golfer on the winning team. Way to go Jeff Baxter, Leslie Kopp, Allison Stein and Karen Sergison. Also awarded was “Closest to the Pin” to first time golfer and new member Lise O’Connell and “Longest Drive” to Jeff Baxter. A huge thank you to Cripple Creek Golf and Country Club for such a great afternoon.
