Summer Company accepting applications
KAWARTHA LAKES - Students looking for summer employment may want to try a different approach than working for someone else and become their own boss instead this summer. Summer Company is an Ontario government program for students between the ages of 15-29, in school and returning to school, to start and operate their own business throughout the summer months. The successful students can receive up to $1,500 for business start-up costs and up to $1,500 upon returning to school in the fall, as well as at least 12 hours of business training, and have the opportunity to meet with mentors for support and advice. Diane Steven, manager of the Kawartha Lakes Small Business & Entrepreneurship Centre (KLSBEC),
is hoping to accept 15 students this year. Since 2003, area students have started various businesses through the program such as lawn care, woodworking, tourism, artisan businesses, lessons/tutoring and food services. Go online at www.ontario.ca/summercompany to get program details and complete the application. Deadline is May 23. For more information call Diane Steven at the KLSBEC at 705-324-9411 ext. 1283 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
