CONGRATS, JAKE!
Early last year the World Health Assembly designated 2020 the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife in honor of the 200th birthday of history’s most famous nurse, Florence Nightingale. Who could have foreseen that this year nurses would become our superheroes? On May 11, Pascack Valley Medical Center was pleased to dedicate a garden and the “Healer’s Touch” stone sculpture in honor of the Year of the Nurse. The ceremony honored all Pascack Valley Medical Center nurses and acknowledged their commitment to outstanding patient care and the patient experience. Team members painted rocks with positive messages to place into the garden. Nightingale, a British nurse and healthcare reformer, is considered the founder of modern nursing. In addition to raising the status of the profession, she identified that fresh air, nutritious food, clean water and good hygiene were key to positive patient outcomes. Each year, Nurses Week begins on May 6 and ends on May 12, her birthday.
