SEPTEMBER

WELCOME Welcome to a bumper edition of our brochure where you can find out what’s on at both The Point AND The Berry Theatre in Hedge End. There is so much on offer in Eastleigh! Along with this, we are also launching new websites for both our venues and festivals, to make it easier to find what you want, buy tickets and support the work we do. Our transformation project Your Point, generously funded by Arts Council England and Eastleigh Borough Council will see sparkling new toilets, a newly refurbished Studio Theatre and some surprises for the outside of the building. We’re so proud to be giving you high quality performances and activities, but

it does take its toll on our buildings, especially a 19th Century one such as The Point. Over the next six months we are introducing a new Restoration Levy, where £1 of your ticket price will go directly towards the ongoing upkeep of our buildings ensuring you continue to have the best quality experiences. As always, we’re looking forward to Moving You.

NOW OUR CREATION SPACE IS 10 This autumn our beautiful residential Creation Space will be ten years old. We’re celebrating by asking the artists who’ve spent time creating, developing and rehearsing work in the Space to share an image of their time with us for our Watch this Space free gallery exhibition. DANCE UMBRELLA 4X4 MYTHILI PRAKASH PRESENTS

HERE AND NOW PREVIEW PERFORMANCE

Part of Dance Umbrella’s line-up of international artists for its 2019 festival, LA-based dancer and choreographer Mythili Prakash was chosen by Akram Khan as his ‘choreographer of the future’ for DU’s Four by Four Commissions.

Here and Now is a contemporary reflection on Mythili’s relationship with time; as a mother, an artist and a human being. Inspired by the illusory nature of time in Eastern philosophy and myth, where whole lifetimes are played out in the blink of an eye, Here and Now explores the human struggle to be in the present. Here and Now features live vocal by Sushma Soma and live percussion and vocal by Sumesh Narayanan. Lighting Design is by Guy Hoare.

NUA DANCE PRESENTS

QUIMERA A multidisciplinary performance bringing together dance, circus and theatre artists. Dance meets circus in QUIMERA, a powerful and darkly funny performance inspired by Cervantes’ D. Quixote. Quimera is a retiree and she wants to change the world, emerging from her tiny room into a fantastical landscape that inadvertently leads her to becoming a hero. Nua Dance’s newest and most ambitious work to date features a five person intergenerational ensemble, led by Sarah Dowling (ROH associate artist), including circus and dance artists. Combining elements of contemporary dance with aerial and acrobatics techniques, choreographer Neus Gil Cortés exposes the contradictions of a world we often choose not to see with her characteristic mix of humour with quirky and extreme physicality.

HIGHLY SPRUNG PRESENTS

UP, UP AND AWAY Jo is misunderstood… by nearly everyone, friends (if he had any), teachers, even mum and dad… Everyone keeps telling Jo that he is just… ‘different’… that he doesn’t fit in. So, when a mysterious red balloon floats by, Jo is given the chance to fly away into the sky above and he doesn’t think twice about going. Once in the clouds, Jo meets a host of colourful, strange and intriguing characters, who are the most ‘different’ kind of people he’s ever met. Together they embark on a cloud hopping, star jumping, stratospheric adventure and teach Jo that sometimes being ‘different’ is the best thing in the world. Like so many children with special educational needs, Jo struggles to find a place for himself in everyday life. Exploring communication, social interaction and feelings of isolation, Up, Up and Away is a story for all children who perceive the world though their own frame.

We will investigate what inspires us to move, how to direct our attention, how to remain open to both choice and coincidence, and how to stay connected to ourselves, each other and the environment.
