National military cross country team member to speak at ski club AGM Kris Plant run a boot camp in Perth five days a week. The Jack Rabbit Program for children learning to ski and a youth ski program for more experienced skiers will run again this season led by Drew Lampman, club president, and club member Nancy Sweetnam. New skiers, both children and adults, who would like to give cross-country skiing a try can arrange to rent club equipment.
Former national military cross country team member, Shannon Baillon will be the guest speaker at the Tay Valley Cross Country Ski Club AGM, taking place at Dufferin Square board room in Perth on Monday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. Baillon is shown competing in the Perth Kilt Run/Spartan Race earlier this year. Attendees will have an opportunity to purchase their 2013-2014 membership, giving them unlimited skiing access to our beautifully groomed trails at Murphy’s Point Provincial Park for the entire ski season. Rates this year will be $65 for a family, $50 for an individual and $25 for a student, however all memberships purchased at the AGM will be discounted $5.

Community - The Tay Valley Cross Country Ski Club’s 41st Annual General Meeting and social evening will take place on Monday Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Dufferin Square Board Room, 105 Dufferin Ave. (Highway 7 behind Wendy’s Restaurant) in Perth. All are welcome. Former national military cross country team member Shannon Baillon will be the guest speaker. Baillon is well-known in the area as a runner and healthy living advocate. She grew up on the family beef farm near Owen Sound, participating in many sports as a child and teenager. She went on to attend the Royal Military College of Canada, participating in annual provincial and national level military running competitions. For three years, she ran internationally with the Canadian forces cross country team, attending competitions in Florida, Ireland and Nigeria. She has also competed in the Canadian Ironman Triathlon in Penticton BC (4km swim, 180km bike, 42km run) and has completed several half ironman and Olympic distance triathlons. Her presentation will focus on four areas of healthy living: Modern Day Challenges and the choices we make; Physical Fitness - how to become and stay physically fit; Food/Fuel - tips for healthy food choices and moderation; and Day to Day Life - what you can do everyday to stay healthy.
