People’s Post False Bay Page 5 SAIL AWAY: The photographer captured this striking silhouette of a yacht in Simon’s Town harbour. He says he loves the effect the contrast created. Many photographers use the technique of photographing people, objects or landscape elements against the light, to achieve an image in silhou ette. The light might be natural, such as a sunset or an open doorway. Silhouetting occurs when there is a lighting ratio of 16:1 or greater. The exposure is set for the background, usually with an aperture at 911 and a shutter speed of 120200. Photo: Gerhard Slabbert

Pedestrian hit by truck

A WOMAN has survived after a truck drove over both her legs last Friday in Fish Hoek.

Darren Zimmerman of Cape Medical Response (CMR) says the accident happened in the Main Road, at the corner of Central Road. The 27-year-old woman has not been named at the wishes of her family.

“The woman was critically injured and airlifted to Groote Schuur Hospital in the SkyMed helicopter.” Zimmerman says she had severe injuries to her legs. Fish Hoek police spokesperson Warrant Officer Peter Middleton says the incident happened at 14:20. The pedestrian, a Fish Hoek resident, was hit by a Volvo truck. Middleton says the woman was

still in hospital on yesterday afternoon, but was expected to be discharged soon. He says a case of reckless and negligent driving has been opened. Gavin Thomson was in the vicinity at the time. He says the bright orange truck appeared to have lifting gear on the back. He says: “It was stopped at 45 degrees into a side street opposite the Square.”

Wanted: a chairperson for the Simon’s Town CPF THERE was no nomination for the chairperson position of the Simon’s Town CPF at the AGM last Monday. The meeting was held at the Simon’s Town Library Hall. Former chairperson, Don Stepto stepped down after serving two years. He adds this means they will have to have another general meeting within the next two weeks to elect a new chairperson. The CPF forms a link between the police and the Simon’s Town community, which includes all businesses and individual residents.

Stepho says the new chairperson will tackle among other issues the “gross understaffing” of the Simon’s Town police station. Finalised nominations include Aliet Pelt as vice chairperson, Leon McDuling for secretary, Elaine Rutherfoord-Jones as assistant secretary, Roy Burnie as treasurer and Don Stepho as project co-ordinator. The public relations officer position also needs to be filled. The date for the special meeting has not yet been set but is expected to take place next week. Phone Don on (021) 786 2145 or e-mail : don.stepto@gmail.com.
