WHO WE ARE Nearly forty years ago, Richard Ourso started working at a cabinet shop. His initial introduction to millwork turned into a lifelong love for all things woodworking. It also laid the foundation for what would become his passion. He has sawdust in his veins. In his decades of work as a wood craftsman, as well as his time spent working as a designer, Richard noticed how difficult it was to install solid beams. The planning, framing, and installation - not to mention time - made solid beams a headache for him and his clients. He needed something different, something that looked just like natural beams but didn’t carry the unncessary hassle. It was this passion that drove him to create The Olde Mill. After twenty years of tinkering, Richard came up with a technique to create a hollow beam that looked and felt real. The Olde Mill was born in this one hollow, engineered beam. Today, the team at The Olde Mill strives to carry on Richard’s purpose - creating high quality pieces that show off the natural wood but provide a practical alternative to solid pieces. They give designers and homeowners the flexibility to have the piece they want, no matter what.

THE OLDE MILL For the past five years, The Olde Mill has been the premiere Baton Rouge creator of reclaimed engineered beams, posts, mantels and floating shelves. In our short time, we have developed a reputation for creating the highest quality pieces available. How do we do it? We source 100+ year old Longleaf Pine from factories, churches, and businesses set for demolition across the United States. We believe that antique pine, with its closegrained character, durability, and hardness, is the best wood there is. Decades of exposure to the elements has made the wood extremely stable and durable. Nothing else but the best is good enough for what we do. We then mill this wood into veneers and laminate them to a plywood substrate. From there, we give the edges a locking miter profile, to ensure that all sides interlock smoothly, before assembling everything with a highquality, water-resistant wood glue. It all comes together for a seamless beam that looks solid on the outside but is completely hollow on the inside. From the outside, our pieces look like solid wood. But, on the inside, they are completely hollow. This makes them extremely versatile. Use our pieces to wrap existing beams, hide electrical wiring or ductwork, or as lightweight decorative additions to your home. You don’t have to sacrifice beauty for function. We love the look of wood, so all of our products come with a natural finish. This gives you maximum versatility when it comes to stains, paints and waxes. Our pieces are suitable for any decorative indoor application, as well as in protected exterior areas. In projects that require structural support, our beams are meant to be used in conjunction with conventional framing systems. With each piece that comes out of our mill, there is a unique character. We let the wood do the talking. Nail holes, bolt holes, cracks, and nicks are not buffed out or patched. Instead, they are left to tell the story of each piece that was more than a century in the making.

We start with reclaimed 100+-year-old Longleaf Pine.

We use a vacuum sealer to laminate the veneers to plywood substrates with even pressure.

2 We remove the nails and mill the wood into 1/4 inch veneers.

6 We package the pieces and prepare to ship them to you. We currently ship anywhere in the continental United States. and mainland Canada.

5 We sand the corners and sides down to create a smooth, seamless finish. We spot check for perfection and prepare for shipping.

4 We miter the edges and use premium wood glue to fit the pieces together.

BEAMS Beams are what we are known for. They were the first product that owner Richard Ourso made. And when he first started making them, he set out to make them right. We only use the finest reclaimed antique Longleaf Pine in each of our beams. That way, they are durable and beautiful and will last for generations to come. Stock sizes available: Widths: 6”, 8”, 10”, and 12” Heights: 6”, 8”, 10”, and 12” Lengths: 6’, 8’, 10’, 12’, 16’, 18’, and 20’+ Custom widths, heights, and lengths can be accomodated for your project. Call or email our officce to check current availability of materials. We can produce Beams up to 22’ in length without a splice. Lengths over 22’ will be made with a splice. Because our beams are lightweight, they are easy to install. Heavy machinery and a large team need not apply; a trim carpenter and assistant can easily do the job. And they can be installed at any stage in the construction process, including after the walls have gone up. This makes them a great addition to many projects, from new, whole house construction to small remodeling projects. We leave our beams unfinished, in their natural, beautiful state. That way, you can see the scratches and nicks that the wood picked up over a century of use. That being said, they hold paints, stains, oils, and waxes well. We provide design assistance to people looking to choose the right look for their project. Styles: farmhouse, rustic, modern, contemporary, cottage, classic cottage, farmhouse cottage, eclectic, industrial, traditional

POSTS Posts are an important part of historic farmhouse architecture. In traditional post-and-beam construction, posts are needed to support the weight of the framing for the entire house. Architects and designers like Baton Rouge-native A. Hays Town and the award-winning team behind Fixer Upper, Chip and Joanna Gaines, often incorporate them into their plans, adding rich visual character as well as supporting walls and ceilings. Solid wood posts in older homes, especially those used in old homes, can weigh thousands of pounds each, making them difficult to alter once installed. Stock sizes available: Widths: 6”, 8”, 10”, and 12” Heights: 6”, 8”, 10”, and 12” Lengths: 6’, 8’, 10’, and 12’+ Custom sizes can be accomodated, depending on availability, for an additional fee. As an added feature, our posts can be made with a single removable side. This gives you access to cords, wiring, etc., that might be covered by the beam. Styles: farmhouse, rustic, modern, cottage, classic cottage, farmhouse cottage, eclectic, industrial, traditional, American colonial

HEADERS The sleek lines and beauty of our headers add warmth and visual interest to any doorway or window. And, with the right stain, they can easily enhance additional elements in any room to create an inviting atmosphere. Change the look of your whole home by adding door and window headers. Because our headers are hollow, they can be easily installed, even over existing headers.

Custom sizes can be accomodated for an additional fee, depending on availability. Be sure to specify whether you would like an inset or flush header when ordering these pieces. Styles: farmhouse, rustic, modern, cottage, classic cottage, farmhouse cottage, eclectic, industrial, traditional

MANTELS A mantel is as much a reflection of a house as the people who call it home. It’s central location in the living room makes it a statement piece for all who visit. And it holds treasured family heirlooms or festive holiday decorations, meaning it sets the stage for the rest of the room’s look and feel. When thinking about a piece that is so important to the feeling of home and family, nothing but the absolute best will do. Our mantels are crafted through the same method as our beams - with careful attention to detail and respect for the character of the wood. Our special mitering process ensures that the finished piece has all of the character of a solid mantel, without the added weight. Stock sizes available: Widths: 4”, 6”, 8”, 10”, 12” Heights: 4”, 6”, 8”, 10”, 12” Lengths: 6’, 7’, 8’, 9’, and 10’+ Custom sizes can be accomodated, depending on stock, for an additional fee. Our mantels can be used for decorative exterior applications, as long as they are not exposed to direct sunlight. Styles: farmhouse, rustic, modern, cottage, classic cottage, farmhouse cottage, eclectic, industrial, traditional

FLOATING SHELVES Our floating shelves make the perfect addition to a small renovation or remodeling project. Lightweight and easy to install, they have the natural beauty and character of solid floating shelves, without all of the weight. They can be easily installed with an invisible bracket, allowing you to maintain clean lines in your design. All of our floating shelves come with a bracket. Heavy duty hardware is available upon request. Our floating shelves can be made with or without endcaps. Consider where you planning on installing your floating shelves - will the ends be visible? If so, endcaps can add an additional visual element.

The Olde Mill’s floating shelves come in a variety of lengths, widths and heights. Stock sizes available: Widths: 4”, 6”, 8”, 10”, and 12” Heights: 4”, 6”, 8”, 10”, and 12” Lengths: 18”, 2’, 3’, 4’, and 6’ Custom sizes can be accomodated, depending on stock.
