have otherwise been vulnerable to theft by would-be criminals. “We are grateful for all the citizens who have participated in the program.” As part of the program, participating residents received a digital camera from Henry’s Camera in return for their unwanted firearms. “This is an outstanding example of police working with the private sector,” Blair said. Jan Smith from Henry’s Camera was on hand to give a couple cameras away at last month’s media press conference, including one to a retired Brigadier General who was with Canada’s Military Attache to the U.S. in the early 1970s. “It’s just one step closer to keeping our communities safe,” she said. Although the program is no longer running, police encourage residents to surrender any unwanted firearms to police for destruction. Call 416-808-2222 to have an officer attend your home and collect firearms or ammunition. Do not bring to the police station.
