Many teenagers expect senior year to be mostly fun and games, but these the following faculty members of North Forsyth chose to commit to school and still managed to have fun. Principal Bass, Ms. Hernandez, and Mrs. Lawrence were questioned by The Norland about their lives at age seventeen.
representative on student council. I was in the school musical. I volunteered with our service group, helped with yearbook, and was editor of the school literary magazine. I also held two part-time jobs after school and on weekends, which kept me very busy. I had no romances during high school, allowing me to award more time to my jobs and extra-curricular activities. I had a great senior year with no regrets. The highlight of the year was a trip I took with my mentor to London, Paris Munich, and Istanbul over spring break. It was a real adventure and a great learning experience.”
Mrs.Lawrence, a Latin teacher at North Forsyth, talks about her many accomplishments as a senior.
Lawrence: “I was one of the top students in my class during high school, and I won the senior award given annually to the student who best represented the ideals of my school. It was an honor given for service to the school as well as academic achievement. I worked very hard but loved the activities I was a part of. Senior year I was a
Bass: “I was a senior in high school when I was seventeen. I attended West Tredell High School where I took a full load of classes. I participated in many outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting, and hiking. Some important events that took place while I was seventeen include band trips, prom, graduation, and the senior beach trip. I was mostly an honor student and graduated with no problems.”
Ms.Hernandez, a new math teacher at North Forsyth, is a good example for seniors.
Principal Bass shares his experience as a successful senior in high school.
Hernandez: “At the age of seventeen I was a senior in high school. During that year I was drum major of the marching band, and I worked part-time at a bridal store. I spent a lot of time applying for colleges and working hard to maintain my grades. School has always been very important to me. Throughout my high school career I was very determined to make my high school resume the ideal pick for any college and senior year was no different. Aside from school I enjoyed reading, hiking, and spending time with loved ones. While I was seventeen, the two most important events were my high school graduation and my departure from home to college. My parents were so proud! Everything they had worked so hard for finally paid off as I was the first person in my family to attend college. Looking back, being seventeen was a lot of hard work, but in the end it definitely paid off!”
