Change Lives This Festive Season - Buy A Ciovita Christmas Jersey Ciovita, South Africa’s favourite cycling apparel company, has just launched its striking limited-edition Christmas Jerseys. Embracing the spirit of the festive season whilst giving back to vulnerable communities in South Africa, this annual initiative was started two years ago, in 2018, and has since proved a hit with customers. For each Ciovita Christmas Jersey sold as part of this year’s festive drive, Ciovita will be donating R200 to two local non-profit organisations. They are the Bicycling Empowerment Network (BEN) that refurbishes bicycles to give to those in need, and Velokhaya that supplies bicycles and school supplies to underprivileged children and runs a school feeding programme. The contribution will be split equally between the two charities. Ciovita has sweetened the deal even further by partnering with Versus Socks. When you purchase a Ciovita’s Christmas Jersey at R999 a unit, you’ll receive a free pair of socks valued at R135. Says Ciovita CEO, Andrew Gold: “We started the Christmas Jersey project as something fun and festive over the holiday season. But it was only when we saw the response from our fans to our 2018 jersey that we realised its potential to help others. The great thing about the project is that it can only be achieved through the generosity of our cycling community who are buying the jerseys. It’s thanks to them that we can support these worthwhile charities.” “By partnering with charities like BEN and Velokhaya, we are able to direct the money raised to those who really need it most. For us, it is a chance to share our success through the generosity of our customers. We recognise how bicycles and the sport of cycling can help uplift people and have made it our mission to share the abundant support we receive with needy communities in South Africa. I’m so proud to be involved in this heart-warming project, especially during times like these,” says Karlien Spamer, Ciovita's design executive. For more information visit

New Art Exhibition and Events Programme at Benguela Cove A new art exhibition has opened (November 28th) at Benguela Cove featuring the expressionist work of contemporary South African artists, Marittie de Villiers and Floris van Zyl. This follows the successful residency of sculptor Anton Smit earlier in the year, who will now create a sculpture park at Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens in England, which is also owned by Penny Streeter. Marittie was recently interviewed in Michelangelo magazine and told how she moved to Cape Town in 1992, and met her first husband who was building a steel Gaff Ketch. She sailed around the world with him for four years: “Only after having two daughters on board, and returning from sailing the Atlantic, Caribbean and Bahamian Seas (and staying in the USA) did I find my passion - painting. We’d returned to South Africa and bought a farm outside Mossel Bay in the Outeniqua Mountains. My kids were small, and we all spent a lot of time in our little farm ‘studio’. I used to visit an artist friend in Groot Brak River who had a gallery, and I felt a great urge to paint. I sold many early paintings through her gallery.” Marittie’s chosen medium, she told Michelangelo magazine, is acrylics because of the speed of the response.

“The festive season is upon us and we have lots of great deals and specials just for YOU!”

It’s quick drying: “I think fast, and like to act on that. I use a variety of flat brushes up to 150mm wide, or sometimes palette knives and credit cards. I prefer large canvases as it allows lots of expression. I am full of emotion and like to use wide movements and big industrial brushes. I’m not scared of space and the freedom it gives to explore more.” Marittie’s focus is portraiture and the human body she said: “Clients usually describe my work as expressive and emotional. I prefer not to think logically when I paint, as it dampens inspiration.” For more information visit Michelangelo Magazine

“Our new offering is inspired by the rugged, untamed natural beauty of South Africa’s Wild Coast. We aimed to create a fragrance that speaks to the diversity of the region, its beautiful people, unspoiled beaches, sub-tropical climate and magical landscape. We’re thrilled that the final product delivers beyond our expectations,” says Snowdowne. As part of Cape Island’s Giving Back initiative, each collection supports a non-profit organisation that speaks to the unique tribute carried by each fragrance. Wild Coast offers its tribute to the resilient youth of Africa and their promise of hope for a better future. A percentage of sales from the hugely popular 250 ml classic candles will be donated to the Baby Home, Umlazi, a place of safety for abandoned and orphaned babies and training centre for caregivers in the community. Cape Island co-founder and managing director, Karin Wood says, “We are extremely fortunate as a company to have not only survived the lockdown period but also managed to grow our business in an environment that saw countless businesses close their doors.” “We do not take this blessing for granted and are grateful to be in a position to support our communities through our Giving Back initiative.” Products from the new range include hand-poured mini (100ml) and classic (250ml) scented candles in recyclable glass, a show stopper Christmas bauble following the beauty bauble trend to add to your tree decorations or use as the ultimate stocking filler, with a fragrant room spray to follow later in the year.
