Auditions at FLT for ‘Dreamgirls’ The Florence Little Theatre will hold auditions for Dreamgirls, The Musical Sunday, Sept. 29 and Wednesday Oct. 2. Auditions begin both nights at 7 p.m. Registration begins 30 minutes prior to audition time. All audition materials will be provided. The production will be directed by Cole Davis. Production dates are Jan. 24 through Feb. 1. Auditions are open to performers ages 16 and older. All performers under18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Please bring a nonreturnable head shot, if available. This does not have to be a professional photograph. A printed cell phone photo is fine. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes that allow you to move. Florence Little Theatre auditions are open to everyone. We pride ourselves on having newcomers backstage or in the cast of every production. All auditions are held at the Florence Little Theatre. Prior experience is not required. Usually, those who are auditioning will be asked to read scenes from the show with oth-

ers. For musicals auditions, you will be asked to sing a song which demonstrates your vocal abilities. The musical director will go over the song before you are asked to sing. You will also be required to dance and the choreographer for the production will go over a dance with you before you dance for the director. Sometimes, there are callbacks after the auditions; these are opportunities for the director to make his final decision before casting roles. It is important to know that not being called back does not mean that you will not be cast in the production. Dreamgirls: The Musical is a sweeping and inspirational journey through 20th century American popular music. The show chronicles one Motown group’s rise from obscurity to superstardom. Through gospel, R&B, smooth pop, disco and more, Dreamgirls explores themes of ambition, hope and betrayal, all set in the glamorous and competitive world of the entertainment industry. Pee Dee Coalition’s shelter offers hope and healing. “When I arrived at the shelter, everyone greeted me and my children with such love and acceptance. I felt a sense of safety and freedom for the first time in my life. My experience

showed me that there is hope for me and my children,” said one former shelter resident, a mother of five. This year’s event marks 32 years of service for Pee Dee Coalition, a non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to the reduction of sexual assault, family violence, and child abuse and to serving the needs of victims. We provide direct response to hospitals for victims of domestic and sexual violence and raise critical funds for the emergency safe shelter for women and children. Since the emergency safe shelter opened in 1989, the Coalition has provided more than 139,000 nights of emergency safe lodging and services to over 7,000 women and children. Pee Dee Coalition is a member of the United Way. To learn more, or to volunteer, contact Savannah Wright at swright@peedeecoalition. org.
