RCMP files from November 12 - 18 Arthur Beaudette News Advertiser November 12 09:13 – Abandoned vehicle reported on the roadway. The vehicle was towed and it was determined that the vehicle was stolen.

10:06 – Traffic stop conducted on a vehicle. The driver was issued a ticket for failure to provide proper registration documents.

18:09 - Complainant reported being harassed by his neighbour over the phone. The complainant was concerned with people hunting near his home. The investigation revealed that the hunters were hunting on crown land and were more than 200 yards from the complainant’s house.

The complaints were determined to be unfounded.

22:06 - Nissan vs Deer. Hwy 16 eastbound near RR 150.

A deer jumped onto the roadway and was struck by the vehicle. The deer perished but there were no injuries to the vehicle occupants.

November 13 03:34 – Calls were received by an intoxicated male indicating that cars were “racing around” Vegreville at 1:00pm and 1:00am.

The caller refused to provide his name, area, vehicle descriptions or any other details for his complaint.

Members patrolled but were unable to locate any vehicles driving as described.

08:35 – Report of a vehicle vs deer on Hwy 16 east of RR 174. Reporting for information purposes.

09:33 – Caller reported that someone had driven over the lawn and a street sign was knocked down.

Vegreville public works was called to repair the sign. No information on the vehicle involved.

11:58 – Call to detachment to report an accidental discharge of a firearm in vehicle while hunting near Hwy 857 and Twp 512. There were no injuries and the reporting party was alone at the time. Reporting party was charged under the Wildlife Act. 13:47 – Traffic stop conducted for cell phone use. Driver was charged and provided the voluntary penalty option of $287.

18:21 - Complainant reports that a female has been calling him and harassing him over the phone. She has been calling him numerous times over the last month regarding personal matters. The complainant did not

want to press charges but wanted the information recorded.

19:00 – Call to the detachment for a wellbeing check. The caller’s daughter had not been in contact with her for more than a day. Members attended the last known address and found the daughter who was safe.

23:41 – Complaint of a male walking eastbound on Hwy 16. The caller indicated that the man was walking along the side of the road wearing dark clothing and they were concerned he could be hit. Members located the male who indicated he needed to get to Lloydminster. The man was fine and continued on his way.

November 14

00:53 – Traffic stop conducted and it was determined that the driver was disqualified. Driver was issued tickets and released to appear in court.

02:41 – Traffic stop conducted for speeding. It was determined that the passenger had outstanding warrants out of BC. The passenger was arrested on his warrants and was remanded on his charges.

15:23 – Wellbeing check requested by someone for a friend who he had not seen in at least 6 days. Members attended and found the subject who was not feeling well. EMS was called and the subject was taken to the hospital.

23:34 – Suspicious vehicle was reported parked near a residence. Members attended and found the unoccupied vehicle with a plate and VIN that do no match. The vehicle was towed and items were seized from the vehicle for further investigation.

November 15

07:53 – Vehicle vs Deer. Vehicle not blocking the roadway and unable to be moved.

08:00 – Report of injured deer in the ditch on Hwy 16. The caller was concerned that the deer may get onto the roadway. Members attended and found the deer already deceased. The deer was removed from the side of the road.

09:02 – Another vehicle vs deer. *** if there are no injuries and the vehicle is not blocking the roadway, this type of issue can be handled without the police attending.

14:02 – Report of theft of a large amount of diesel fuel from a generator on his property. Still under investigation.

November 16

08:36 – Deer strike on Hwy 16 four km east of Hwy 36. There were no injuries and was reported for information.

12:28 – Complainant reports that a construction crew was shovelling snow off of a roof on to his property and also placing a ladder on his property to do their work. Members attended and it was determined that the neighbours had discussed the issue and came to an understanding.

14:11 – Break and enter to a business in Vegreville. A lock was cut on an outside door and the building was

03:00 – Report of a suspicious vehicle on RR 143. The driver was arrested for impaired driving and had warrants which were executed.

The passenger took the keys and gave members a false name. He was arrested and charged for obstruction. It was determined that the passenger also had outstanding warrants which were also executed.

12:18 – Report of theft of vehicle from a rural residence.

Theft occurred between 2:00am the previous day and 10:00 am on the 16th.

It appears that a tractor was driven on to the property and used to tow the car out. Still under investigation.

17:59 – Family dispute reported involving a father and son.

An assault had occurred but no one was injured.

Members attended and mediated the situation. Victim services has been contacted and charges are not being pursued.

19:38 – Report of a vehicle going the wrong way on Hwy 16. While members were on route, they were informed that the vehicle had turned around. No further information was provided.

Politicians Behaving Badly Arthur Beaudette News Advertiser - Opinion You have likely heard the quote “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men.” This dates back to 1887 but similar quotes have been used much earlier.

Famous examples might be Roman emperors and the likes of Napoleon Bonaparte. Closer to 2018, we can look to some leaders of foreign countries like North Korea, China and others including US Presidents.

While using the word “absolute” would be pushing it, it does seem that there are politicians in Canada that feel they do not answer to anyone and can act any way they choose.

Only once caught do they suddenly find themselves apologetic or at times defensive, depending on their level of fight.

This summer, Kent Hehr was accused of sexual harassment after it was alleged that he had made women feel “unsafe” at the Alberta Legislature. He was forced to resign from cabinet but still serves as an MP for Calgary Centre and still collects a cheque.

MP Tony Clement is a more recent example. I won’t detail his actions here, but a quick search will tell you all you need to know. It’s stomach turning. While he resigned some positions and committees he continues to be a Member of Parliament. Clement stated “I am committed to seeking the

help and treatment I need in my personal life...” But don’t worry, he is still also committed to collecting a pay cheque from the government payroll.

In Toronto, two city Councillors were recently charged with campaign finance violations by the Ontario Provincial Police anti-rackets unit. Both Grimes and Di Ciano have denied the accusations and while Di Ciano will not be returning to council, I’m sure both are gladly depositing their City Council paycheques.

Closer to home, after 2 MLA’s were accused of inappropriate behavior, Alberta Premier Rachel Notley says the NDP caucus won’t reveal the names of those in question. In both cases, she stated that the behavior could be dealt with through education and a change in behavior.

Letter to the Editor Last week’s letter, titled “An Interesting Experiment,” annoyed me. Had it been presented as a fairy tale, it would still have annoyed me, but I would not have written this response.

However, it was presented as an “experiment”, as shown in both the headline and the first sentence in the letter.

By definition, a thought experiment, as Cecile Beaulieu implied her letter to be, is presented to test a hypothesis. It comprises evidence and arguments to evaluate the validity of that hypothesis. I presume, although it was not explicitly stated, that her hypothesis was “capitalism-good-socialismbad”. But I saw neither argument nor evidence in her letter.

Instead what I read was a “story”, something that she just made up.

That letter is not an experiment. It is a fairy tale, written to reinforce her belief, perhaps?

Vegreville Home Business Trade Fair

Emily Mailhot Reporter – Vegreville News Advertiser On November 17, the Library gym was filled with 50 tables for the 14th Annual Home Business Trade Fair. Business ranged from children’s books and toys to Pampered Chef spices to clothing and accessories, so guests had a wide range of gifts and essentials to choose from.

At the door, there was a table for treats and water, and a bag of 50/50 tickets. Each vendor had half of a 50/50 ticket on an item at their table, and the guest with the corresponding guest ticket to the one on the item won that item. In addition to being a fun take on the 50/50 draw, this also made it so that there were upwards of 50 opportunities for guests to win prizes. Even within the first two hours, several of the ticket items had already been won.

This also encouraged guests to look through all of the items on each table in order to find the ticket.

With a significant rise in the success and variety of Home-Based businesses over the years, the trade show was a good opportunity for home business owners to get out, off of social media platforms, to sell their wares.

90 Years Ago – November 21, 1928

Taking time by the forelock and also taking advantage of the prolonged spell of comparatively mild weather, M. C. Watts, just south of town, has already sown fourteen acres of Garnet wheat and expects to get another fourteen or more acres in before real winter sets in.

R.O. Hoff of Innisfree, is rejoicing in the return of $70 which he had given up for lost. Mr. Hoff stayed at the Prince Edward Hotel on November 13th and while there found that his purse had disappeared. He did not know whether he had had it with him in his room or not – but it had disappeared anyway. But when he returned to the hotel the purse with its contents intact was handed over to him, having been found in the room by the housekeeper, and immediately turned over to the manager.

Notices are being served on the properties of all restaurants and hotels to the effect that after the close of the year the proprietors of such places will have to make their own provision for the removal of garbage accumulating from the carrying on of such business.

75 Years Ago – November 24, 1943

The Royal Canadian Navy has developed what is regarded as the finest life-saving jacket in the world, and an order for 75,000 has been placed. The cost of one jacket is estimated at $15.00, so buy one or more with War Savings Stamps and Certificates.

A meeting was held in the armories on Tuesday evening, November 16th, for the purpose of organizing a Women’s Auxiliary, B.E.S.L. in connection with the Vegreville Legion. About fifty ladies were present, together with the executive of the local Legion. A motion was passed providing for organization of a Women’s Auxiliary of the Canadian Legion, B.E.S.L. Mrs. J. S. Reid was unanimously elected President.

Miss Amy Taylor, R.C.A.F. (WD), has received a promotion to corporal and is now instructor in wireless at Dalhousie University, N.S. Stan Reid arrived home on Tuesday for a short stay. Stan has been with the United States Roads survey since the beginning of the Alaska Highway project.

Mrs. R.L. Dunn has received advice that her son, Jim has arrived safely in Canada, and should be home early in December.

50 Years Ago – November 21, 1968

A well-attended one day referee school was held in Vegreville last Saturday with 14 interested persons attending from Two Hills and Vegreville. The instructor was Bill Bucyk of Edmonton, representing the Alberta Referee’s Association.

The Vegreville Ladies Curling Club is boasting a record high number of rinks and curlers playing this year. Nineteen rinks including 32 new curlers will play in draws scheduled on Mondays at 9:00 p.m. and Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. Mrs. Josie Makewichuk is club president and presided at a pot luck dinner followed by curling instruction for beginners last Friday night. Giving instructions were Leo Cherot, Rich Ferguson and Stan Wilcox.

Walter S. Zaruby, son of Mrs. and Mrs. W. Zaruby of Vegreville, recently completed a short course at Queen’s University. Mr. Zaruby is associated with Shell Canada Ltd. and is presently engaged at Madrid, Sevile, The Hague and Amsterdam and London.

The ghosts and goblins on Halloween collected $281.87 for UNICEF. The children of the town are to be commended for their willingness to help the less fortunate children of the world.

Winner of the Legion Auxiliary Bursary was Miss Melissa Semotiuk. Presenting the bursary on behalf of the Legion Auxiliary was President Mrs. C. Tebbutt at the Remembrance Day Ceremonies.

25 Years Ago – November 23, 1993

Vegreville’s new private liquor store in open for business. The Vegreville Liquor Store, owned by three local partners, opened its doors November 12. The store is located where the old ALCB was, on 52 Avenue beside the Legion. “The opportunity was there,” said Gary Kuchik, one of the owners. “It was something thrown in front of us. It was one of those ‘take it or leave it alone’ things.”

Vegreville’s Catholic school district posted a small operating deficit last year, according to its financial statement. Expenses outpaced revenues by $10,733 for the 1992-93 school year. The district spent $2.695 million in total during ’92-’93 with just under 69% spent on instruction, which includes teachers’ salaries and benefits and instructional supplies.

The Vegreville Chamber of Commerce has a new executive and board of directors for 1994. Russell Chudyk becomes president while Darren Stollings serves as first vice-president: second vicepresident Wendy Hopper and secretary/manager Terry Soldan.

The Minburn County school board and its support workers have agreed to a new contract. The board ratified a memorandum of agreement at its meeting November 2. The workers, represented by the Alberta Union of School Employees, are expected to ratify the agreement by this week.

Why are Investors Souring on Alberta?

Ken Green Policy Analyst – The Fraser Institute Alberta’s economy has suffered in recent years.

A major factor was world oil prices, which plummeted in 2014. And limited pipeline capacity, which fetches Canadian oil producers depressed prices for Canadian oil exacerbated Alberta’s economic woes.

A number of metrics indicate that oil and gas investment in Alberta is in steep decline. According to a report by the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, capital investment in Canada’s oil and natural gas in 2017 was $45 billion, down 44 percent compared to $81 billion in 2014, before oil prices collapsed.

But many other factors affect investment in Alberta. The Fraser Institute’s Global Petroleum Survey measures investor perceptions about the hospitability of oil and gas jurisdictions for investment. Among respondents, Alberta’s fiscal terms are perceived as a deterrent to investment - the regime of lease payments, royalties, production taxes and gross revenue charges (but not corporate or personal taxes).

Fiscal terms were only considered a deterrent to investment by 14 percent of respondents to a survey in 2013 compared to 50 percent in 2017. And respondents saying that Alberta’s fiscal terms were attractive to investment dropped by 22 percent over that period.

With regard to Alberta taxation in general, there was a similar decline in perceived investment attractiveness from only 16 percent of respondents registering deterrence due to taxes in 2013 compared to 52 percent in 2017.

It’s a similar situation with mining investment in Alberta. In 2013, regulatory uncertainty in Alberta was considered a deterrent by only 11 percent of respondents to the Fraser Institute’s Annual Mining Survey compared to 25 percent in 2017, more than double the percentage from four years before.

Regulatory factors are also perceived as significant deterrents to investment.

Respondents

in both surveys point to uncertainty about environmental regulations (and their enforcement) and the cost of regulatory compliance. This was particularly true in the oil and gas sector, where 32 percent of respondents said compliance costs were a deterrent to investment in 2013 compared to 70 percent in 2017.

So why is this happening? Why are investors souring on Alberta?

There are many potential reasons for declining perceptions of investment attractiveness. But sequential injections of policy uncertainty almost certainly play a role. Since 2014, a steady stream of announcements (provincially and federally) have shaken investor confidence in Alberta.

The Alberta government broadened and raised the carbon tax, imposed a 100-megatonne cap on greenhouse gas emissions from the oil sands and enacted a Climate Leadership Plan that reaches into virtually every sector of Alberta’s economy.

Clearly, the Alberta government and the federal government should consider regulatory reforms like those that have been successfully implemented elsewhere, including British Columbia in 2001, with a goal of reducing red tape by requiring that any new regulation must trigger the cutting of another.

In New Brunswick, the government has a threepoint plan to reform its regulatory system, reducing regulation by 20 percent overall and instituting a rule that any new regulations must displace an obsolete regulation.

And Canada’s largest trading partner (and economic competitor) is leaping ahead on this front.

In his first week in office, U.S. President Donald Trump enacted an executive order requiring that for every new regulation issued, two must be eliminated. He also instituted what has been called a “regulator’s budget,” evaluating regulations to be replaced based on the costs and benefits of new regulations.

Alberta’s economy is reeling from a combination of lower oil and gas prices and a barrage of regulations and taxes on the natural resource sector.

Easing the burden of carbon taxes and excessive regulation should be a top priority for the provincial government.

Innisfree-Minburn 4-H Beef Club November Report Camille Kassian Club Reporter The Innisfree-Minburn 4-H Beef Club held our November meeting, on Wednesday November 14, 2018. This year we have 12 members in our club.

We had our weigh-in on November 4.

Everyone’s calves weighed in nicely with the help of the Harders, who kindly donated the use of their facility. This was much appreciated on the rainy and snowy day that we had.

Amanda Elzing of Merck Animal Health donated the Safeguard vaccine, Melissa Hall of Elanco Animal Health donated the implants and Dr. Tawyna Copland of Prairie Rose Veterinary Services donated the parasite tests.

Our tire and electronics recycling was on November 9, and was a success thanks to people in the community who donated their tires and electronics.

Some of our members attended the fitting and clipping demo put on by Rusylvia Cattle Company on October 13. Other members tuned in to a beef project webinar presented by 4-H Alberta on October 16. On November 7, some of our members attended a seminar on the Ups and Downs of Feeding 4-H Steers presented by Ag Canada and the Derwent and District Ag Society. All of these presentations were very informative and interesting.

We would also like to mention that Lyndon Mansell and Tawyna Copland are back for another year as leaders.

Racing Awards Conclude the Chuckwagon and Chariot Season

Emily Mailhot Reporter - Vegreville News Advertiser At this year’s Alberta Professional Chuckwagon and Chariot Association awards night and annual general meeting on November 3rd, a few of the honours were given to local Vegreville racer Dwayne Dubuc, his team, and the Vegreville Agricultural Society.

Dwayne Dubuc, who held onto the first-place position throughout the racing season, was awarded with the first overall standings in Chuckwagon racing for 2018. The whole season had been somewhat of a surprise for Dubuc, who had originally planned to cut back on races to save travel expense and time at home. “Then I took home first place at the first race, and held the lead all the way through… it’s hard to pull away from such a good racing year.”

About attempting to hold onto the title for next year, Dubuc says that is still undetermined.

“I find myself wavering back and forth. On one hand I’d like to cut back to make things simpler, and save some miles. On the other, there is a challenge to go and repeat this year’s wins,” Dubuc said, “We’ll see how the season starts, and go from there.”

Leo Cartier Memorial Awards for best horse in each position, Dubuc’s horse Rebel was named first place Wagon Left Leader.

Dubuc will remain President of the APCCA for at least one more year, until the expiration of his three-year term. He explained that the Association is in the process of looking into adding some new venues for next year’s races, but haven’t signed any contracts yet. “We added three new races last year, and it was a big jump but people were happy with it. There are a couple of intriguing rodeos and fairs we will look into it to see if there is interest for us, nothing has been locked down” For the 2018 season, the Vegreville Agricultural Society won the Fair Board of the Year Award.

While a number of Fair Boards had stepped up their game in working with the APCCA to make their venues better, Vegreville still managed to set themselves apart.

“For the Vegreville Agricultural Society to be able to rise above the rest like that is definitely something they can be proud of,” said Dubuc.

The areas with which the APCCA members who voted on the award were the most impressed, was the consistently excellent condition of the track, the extra event added in the spring, and the enthusiasm and appreciation of Vegreville racing fans who always give a warm, noisy welcome to the racers. Great sponsorship within the town from local businesses also played a role in showing community support for the races.

Lamont Town Council Appoints New CAO Bill Skinner Mayor – Town of Lamont Council is pleased to announce that Ms. Christine Beveridge has been selected as the new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for the Town of Lamont. She will be assuming her new role and responsibilities on January 2, 2019.

This is the key leadership position within the Town Administration and we are fortunate to have attracted strong candidates from across Canada with the assistance of Mr. James Davies of DCG Executive Search Ltd. With nearly 18 years of progressive municipal government experience, 12 of which were spent in and around Alberta’s Capital Region, Ms. Beveridge is passionate about governance and her strength lies in legislative services, strategic planning, managing projects, and working with high levels of government. While she started her municipal career in Planning and Development, her folcus shifted when she was appointed as CAO with the Village of Clyde. She has been instrumental in assisting, mentoring, and leading staff, senior leadership, and Council in training and policy development with the City of Fort Saskatchewan, Sturgeon County, and most recently in Parkland County. Through her dedication to ongoing professional development and her Board involvement with the Local Government Administration Association (LGAA), Lamont Town Council is confident that with the addition of Ms. Beveridge to the exsisting team, the Town of Lamont is well-positioned for the future.

That’s a Wrap! VCHS Volleyball Adrienne Mills Secondary Teacher – Vegreville Composite High School Another season has wrapped up for the Senior High Girls Volleyball team, and it was a very successful one! This young team battled through some tough tournaments, using the experiences to improve and grow. The Cougars travelled to Fort McMurray for Zones November 15th -17th to play for a chance to travel to Provincials. After defeating Lamont, the Sr Girls returned home with the bronze medals!

Congratulations on an amazing season, ladies! Big thanks to our coaching staff: Al Melnyk, Katelyn Peden, Shauna Rutherford, and bus driver and lead cheerer, Donna Melenka.

This week, the Junior High teams will play in their semifinal matches. On Thursday, the A Girls and B Boys host Fort Christian.

Although your old tablet might be too

slow to cope with the latest applications, it will still be able to play music, either from its own hard drive or from a streaming service like Spotify. Strip off all the apps and data that you aren’t using and use the space for downloaded music. If the device has a failing battery, you can plug it into a charger and leave it in a corner to play your favorite music. An old docking station or spare PC speakers can be added to boost the sound. Beaver Regional Arts Society Presents: Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Emily Mailhot Reporter – Vegreville News Advertiser On Sunday November the 18th, the Beaver Regional Arts Society hosted internationally-acclaimed Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Club in concert at the Paragon Theater in Holden as the first show of the 2018-19 performance season.

The performers were greeted by a full house of folks from Holden, Edmonton, Camrose, and more. The guests from Camrose and Edmonton regularly attend these performances for entertainment and appreciation of the arts, carpooling in busses to make sure all will be able to attend. In particular, two of the organizations who like to visit Holden for the Beaver Regional Arts Society performances are the Dutch Canadian Society of Edmonton and the Southwest Seniors from Edmonton.

These received a shout-out before the performance, along with Gordon and Pat MacTavish, who promised to donate a $50 cheque to the Arts Society if the MC announced the couple’s 52nd wedding anniversary to the audience. This announcement was received with laughter and applause.

In the 2018-19 performance season, the Beaver Regional Arts Society is celebrating their 39th anniversary. They appreciate the contributions from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, Beaver County, the Village of Holden, and the volunteers and donations from the community over the years, without whom their work would not be possible. This year, they will provide four diversely-inspired musical performances at the Paragon Theater.

The Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Company is known internationally for their vigor, expression, and candid performances. In Holden, they performed a variety of traditional Ukrainian dances, as well as the “Dolls” dance from the theatre “Vertep.”

Each of the dances received roaring applause and even laughter as Cheremosh wowed the audience with their lifts, spins, and humourous expression all afternoon.

A roast Beef dinner was served to guests after the performance.

Ryley Leadership Team Serves Up for International Projects Emily Mailhot Reporter – Vegreville News Advertiser The Ryley Leadership Team continued raising money for their semi-annual service trip to Mexico with a dessert night fundraiser at the Ryley Community Hall on Friday, November 16. The hall was filled with families of the Team’s members and people from the Ryley area community who came out to support the cause over a silent and live auction of donated items, live music, and their choice of the many desserts that the Leadership Team had prepared.

The Ryley Leadership Team is made up of students from the Ryley School, who work together to provide local and international support for those in need.

Organizer and the team’s adult leader Kathy Scheu, said that the team’s day-to-day projects include Christmas Hampers in Tofield, 30-hour-famine, serving meals at the Edmonton Bissel Center. The project that was being fundraised for at this event was the team’s trip in July 2019 to build a house for a family living in poverty in Mexico.

The evening began when masters of ceremonies Sofia Kowalski and Kylie Nelson of the Ryley Leadership Club opened the silent auction bidding and introduced the evening’s live music entertainers, Abby Kropeilnicki, Roger Harrison, and Sam Fairless. These performers alternated song for song between speeches throughout the event.

Ryley Leadership Team members took the stage to share their experience of being on the team.

“I really just want to help make a difference in the community and in the whole world.” Said Lucas Oslumb, “When I was in grade ten, I went on the 2017 service trip to Mexico to build a house. It really shows how well we have it and how much we take for granted in Canada.”

Oslumb says that he has plans to go on the 2019 trip after graduation this year.

MC Kylie Nelson talked about their labour of love making sandwiches at the Bissel Center in Edmonton. “It’s encouraging to think that because of the work I am putting in, I am making the world a better place, and that is what leadership means to me.”

MC Sofia Kowalski described the work of the Leadership Team as “Bringing Justice to social injustices through community and global efforts.”

The team showed a video of their Mexico Trip in 2017, which followed by the final speech by Kenzie Kowalilak, member of the Leadership Team for the past five years. “It’s very difficult for young people in Canada to imagine what poverty is like beyond our borders,” Kenzie said.

“Hooch” Brings in $8500 for Calves for Cancer Auction

John Chomiak Submitted Hooch and I are survivors in a way which attracted us to this project, Calves for Cancer, where a minimum of 50 farmers would donate a calf in recognition of Cross Cancer Centre’s 50 year anniversary. The support from the farming community was amazing, exceeding 70 calves.

Hooch is 3/4 Charolais and 1/4 Speckle Park. The Sire was Mongo a significant 1/2 Full French bull for 9 years in our breeding program; his mother was a 1/2 Charolais as a result of a neighbour’s bull invading our herd. An unfortunate accident occurred at our farm where Hooch’s mother died. So I took over caring and feeding him commencing with bottle feeding and progressing onward as Hooch was growing. He has become a pet but is willing to participate in this worthy project.

On the personal side, I became well

acquainted with the Cross Cancer Centre. It was early 2016 when I concluded 40 radiation treatments at the Cross. When my Prostrate PSA number grew to an alarming level of 8.8, my family doctor insisted on further testing. The diagnosis indicated cancer (shocking news) and the 40-day treatment began once the scheduling 5 months later was determined.

Once the radiation treatments were concluded, the first test is 6 months later and the PSA number dropped to .5. At this meeting, my cancer doctor informed me that he did not need to see me anymore and I was turned over to a monitoring doctor. So a year later the PSA test indicated .2 and this past May, the PSA test indicated .1. I feel that I am cancer free and I am anxious to see what the test in May 2019 will indicate. I commend my family doctor who insisted on PSA testing as I aged beyond 50. Catching my cancerous prostrate at an early stage resulted that today I can say, I am cancer free. So guys get tested early and regularly.

The successful bidder will either take Hooch today, or we will take him to the farm and feed him at no cost until May, at which time the decision can be made as to what they would like to do with him.

Four calves were auctioned at Northlands (Farm Fair) generating a sum of approximately $17,000.

Hooch, one of them, generated a sum of $8500, made up by: • $3500 from Northlands, who sent Hooch back to the ring for resale • $2000 from Josh Gillis, who kept Hooch. Josh is John’s grandson, who decided that Hooch was to remain at the Chomiak farm. Hooch will become the Farm Mascot • $1000 from Stephen Mandel, Leader of the Alberta Party

Calves for Cancer Kowerchuk Nick Kowerchuk Submitted For the 50th Anniversary of the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton, CFCW Radio came up with a fundraiser called Calves for Cancer, asking 50 farmers to donate a calf to commemorate the 50 years, with all proceeds going to the Cancer Foundation. They exceeded their goal getting over 70 calves donated. To kick off the fundraiser, 4 donors were asked to bring their calves to sell on November 10th at Edmonton Northlands FarmFair.

Nick and Natalie Kowerchuk of Lamont, along with partners, St Michael Ag Society and Consulting Engineers of Alberta raised a Gelbvieh calf born April 18, 2018.

During the bidding, Northlands bid

on the calf and donated it back to be sold again. After the bidding, the calf was sold to Mike and Kevin Smith, Parkview Farms, of Falun, Alberta for a total of $4300.00 donated to the Cross Cancer Institute. None of this would have been possible if not for those who attended to support the worthy cause.

A Remembrance Day’s Story Time Rosanne Fortier News Correspondence

Children had a chance to learn what Remembrance Day is all about directly from Special Guests from Royal Canadian Branch No. 39, Rod and Joyce Stewart, during Remembrance Day’s Story Time at Vegreville Centennial Library on November 13.

Rod Stewart opened the program by stating that for a long time; only military people who fought in the war were considered to be veterans.

But around 20 years ago, the definition was changed. A veteran now is someone who has served whether it was during war time or peace time.

So yes, Rod and Joyce are both considered to be veterans.

Rod continued to mention that the poppy is worn on the left side of a person’s chest to show veterans are near to our hearts.

Joyce went to tell a few personal stories about how her relatives were affected by the war.

They both spoke about what soldiers went through during the First and Second World Wars.

Then Rod read a story titled, A Poppy Is to Remember

by Heather Patterson and Ron Lightburn.

They gave each child a newspaper, magazine and a book marker that had activities and information related to the wars in them.

They closed by telling the children to work towards peace, it is better for everyone.

There was a coloring activity for children to do later.

Warwick Ladies Club Seasonal Donations Donna Melenka Warwick Ladies Club The Warwick Ladies Club consists of a majority of ladies that live rurally around Warwick as well as some ladies from Vegreville. We get together monthly from November to April each year. Seeding, summer and harvest months we don’t meet because most of us ladies are farming.

Throughout the year, we hold little fundraising events and then donate back to various groups in our community. Our club is an excellent excuse to get together and see one another while helping out the community. We hold a yearly hot dog sale, and bake sales to generate money. We have a yearly picnic, craft night, supper night and on occasion guest speakers for the ladies.

Our club likes to donate to the food bank as much as possible. We always donate in November and December because of the approaching holiday season. Each member brings at least one item to donate but usually each lady brings more.

The donation that we just made was during our first meeting since spring and we thought we would kick it off with a good drive.

Coyote Country Christmas

Emily Mailhot Reporter – Vegreville News Advertiser The Christmas Season was officially started in Chipman with the 5th annual Coyote Country Christmas Celebration on Saturday, November 17.

The Chipman Agricultural Society and the Chipman Players worked together to host a Christmas craft market, and Turkey dinner.

Throughout the afternoon, Harvey Nelson and Lorne McLaughlin gave wagon rides around Chipman, starting from the craft market at the Chipman National Hall.

While the market was reportedly not

as busy as last year the dinner was a huge success with a final count of 233 plates used, said Agricultural Society President Scott Reid.

Before the market area in the hall was dismantled for the evening, a line had begun to form in eager anticipation of the delicious meal downstairs.

“The volunteers have been working hard at this meal since yesterday. They deserve all of our applause because we couldn’t have done this without them,” Reid acknowledged.

The volunteers served helping upon helping of dinner, dessert, and Christmas spirit with at least as much joyful excitement as the guests had in eating the dinner. Gluten-free options were also available in the meal.

Admittance to the turkey dinner was a donation of any size to the Lamont Food Bank. At the end of the weekend, the Agricultural Society delivered 72.05 kg of food and $638 to the Food Bank.

After dinner, the Chipman Junior Players performed a skit with Christmas carols and themed jokes, which received much applause from the dinner guests.

The Junior Players thanked everyone for the success of their bake sale, and wished their audience a very Merry Christmas.

Driver found to be intoxicated and suspended. The driver provided a false name and someone else’s driver’s license. There was open liquor in the vehicle. The passenger had warrants and was arrested. The vehicle was towed and seized for 60 days.

Both occupants have been charged and remanded.

06:30 – Noise complaint about teenagers riding a quad up and down the street. Members attended and the quad and teens were not located.

07:59 – Suspicious vehicle reported near a rural residence. The homeowner sat this vehicle the day before and again before calling. No plate was obtained. Vehicle described as a 4 door black dodge truck with yellow stripes and black rims.

13:22 – Call from municipal building about an intoxicated male. The male was being loud and aggressive to staff and patrons.

Members attended and removed the subject, taking him home to his spouse. No charges were wanted.

During the week there were 66 calls for service made in total including: 3 false alarms, 2 false 911s and 6 animal strikes.

KRYSAK, Sally (nee Dziadyk) On November 17, 2018, Sally Krysak of Vegreville, passed away peacefully at the age of 84 years.

Some people argue that while these are elected officials, they are human and just like everyone else, they have their flaws. I can accept that, but these elected officials should be held to a higher standard.

I say this for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, our young people are taught that these positions are to be respected and held in high regard. They look up

to elected officials. Secondly, they are paid with the tax dollars from hard working Canadians. I doubt that this would be tolerated in private companies, so why do we tolerate it in government?

Fortunately, when it comes to our record close to home, we can be proud to say that we have been represented over the years by men and women with a better moral compass.

We should demand more from our elected officials.

They SHOULD be held to a higher standard and need to remember that they work for YOU, the taxpayer. Regardless of political allegiance, when you vote (campaigning HAS started), be sure to remember who you’re investing in.

Lamont Christmas Kick-off Market Emily Mailhot Reporter – Vegreville News Advertiser Two weeks before the Town of Lamont lights the Christmas lights and celebrates with town-wide festivities, the holiday festivities were kicked off with a home business and craft market at the community hall.

Several original pieces such as Mike’s Hand Turned Bowls made from wood, recycled Christmas Crafts made from lightbulbs, wine bottles, and old records, and homemade washable yarn were available at the sale. Home-business retailers also attended to sell their spices, tea, and makeup items.

While all the retailers reported that the day’s sales were by no means fast paced, they were excited to start the season’s sales, and a slow, steady stream of Christmas-shopping customers brought in the day’s income with a measure of holiday cheer.

VVA Christmas Art Show and Sale Rosanne Fortier News Correspondent People were able to view and purchase masterpieces from 16 Vegreville Visual Artists at Vegreville Visual Artists (VVA) Christmas Art Show and Sale at Senior Citizen Sunshine Club Centre of Vegreville on November 16 and 17.

This show had painting, glasswork, ceramics, woodwork, sketching, photography and other artwork in it.

VVA always likes to keep their shows and sales fresh and this one repeated this pattern as there were new limited edition garden fairy houses created from Lois Bienvenue’s woodwork and designed by the Vegreville Visual Artists.

brightly as a fresh coat of snow amidst the other artists’ art pieces was a students’ artwork contest coordinated by Vegreville Visual Artist, Lois Bienvenue with other Vegreville Visual Artists. Students from all five schools-St. Martin’s, A.L. Horton, Vegreville Composite High, St. Mary’s, and Outreach School participated.

Vegreville Visual Artists judged the students’ work first and then they contacted the students’ parents to have their artwork showcased and even gave the students a chance to sell their work. The students might also have people ask the young artists to draw pictures for them and do commission work.

Bienvenue said they decided to have this contest for the students to entice more people who wouldn’t normally come to the show and sale to visit it and vote for the students’ work.

“People were surprised how many great young artists and older artists from Vegreville Visual Artists we have in the area. We wanted to inspire the students to keep drawing and give them an experience, as well as, prizes for their artwork.

“The Grade 10 and 11 students, part of their prize is they will get mentoring from Vegreville Visual Artists. They will get a free membership and will get to hang their work at the hospital and at

the library with the VVA. This way other people will get to see it and they will get a head start and this will help them make a decision if they want to pursue art as a career or as a hobby. The Grade seven to nine, it will inspire them and help them to realize that they are good artists. If they win, they will receive an art kit and supplies for their school, free framing and a chance to display their work at the hospital and the library. The winners from the grade four to six will receive an art kit and supplies for their school.

At the show, each of these students was paired up with a Vegreville Visual Artists who was passionate about the same type of art medium.

As well, Bienvenue took the students’ winning pictures home with her and she framed the pictures.

The new artists who participated for the first time at the show were Trish Anderson, Connie Baxandall, Vanessa Almberg, and Alana Squair. Other artists included Suzanne Malo, Vivian Annell, Joyce Bryder, Gloria Sen, Betty Klein, Catherine Dowhaniuk, Leo Johnston, Desserie Ruptash, Dianna Sapara, Lois Beinvenue, Marg Varga, and Diane Fausak.

The students were Sidney Dribnenki, Slade Postgate, Noah Stuart, Jenna Cronk, Natasha Gamit, Joe Rogers, Emma-Lee Vincent, and Brianna Slater.

Rosanne Fortier News Correspondent An event that continues for 85 years must have something special going for it. St. Vladimir’s 85th Annual Fall Luncheon continued this same pattern as many people enjoyed the event. This luncheon was organized and sponsored by Ukrainian Women’s Association of

Canada; St. Ol’Ha’s Branch and offered at Ukrainian Orthodox Church of St. Vladimir on November 17.

This event included door prizes and a raffle which besides gift baskets and other goodies, there was also handcrafted Ukrainian Christmas ornaments created by Rt. Rev. Fr. Slawomir Lomaszkiewicz.

President, Rose Hook said they host this luncheon because they love to have people come into their church. Usually, they have a bake sale too but this year, they decided to just have the luncheon. This event is a way for people to get together, visit and enjoy each other’s company.

Jr. B Rangers Emily Mailhot Reporter – Vegreville News Advertiser On Friday, November 16, the Vegreville Jr. B Rangers had another chance to play the Killam Wheat Kings since the beginning of the season’s seven-and-eight-point losses. The stands were full with supporters of both teams who were eager to enjoy the local Fridaynight hockey game.

The Rangers started out strong, with a one-goal lead that lasted until there were five minutes left in the first period, and the Wheat Kings brought the score to 1-1.

Going into the second period, the boys in blue showed defensive strength, with goalie Cole Stephen blocking several clear shots on net, with the counter for shots on goal reading 9 for the Rangers and over 30 for the Wheat Kings when

the scores were tied.

The Wheat Kings got ahead by one point in the second period, and this was maintained until a dramatic comeback for the Rangers. With six seconds left in the second period, Rangers player no.

12 broke away from the melee way ahead of the hot pursuit of Wheat Kings defensemen. The shot went clear into the net, and the Rangers side of the arena went wild. This goal brought the score up to 2-1 for the Rangers.

With this year’s Rangers holding a record so far this season of 8+ point losses, one can only imagine what bolstered the Wheat Kings going into the third period… and after a recent 14-1 loss, the Rangers were determined to hold onto their lead.

With 16;15 left in the game, the Wheat Kings brought the score up to a 2-2 tie,

The Rangers fended off a series of Wheat Kings power plays for roughing, hooking, until finally a solid check by Rangers no. 26 resulted in a brief altercation which put players from both teams in the box.

When the Wheat Kings scored another tie-killing goal with 2:14 left in the game, another fight broke out and one player from each team was removed from the game with 1:13 left on the clock and the Wheat Kings in the lead.

Minute to Win It Rosanne Fortier News Correspondent Fall Break fell into fun when Vegreville Centennial Library partnered with Mental Health Capacity Building (MHCB) to host Minute to Win It on November 15 at the library.

The library’s meeting room floated with laughter as children thought of names for their teams and participated in the one-minute timed relay races.

The program started off with children being formed into teams where they had to create a team’s name and flag.

MHCB Wellness Coach, McKenna Makowecki said the Minute to Win It challenge had 15 kids who got together in groups of three to do some team building.

They had 13 challenges. A few of these included the children putting an Oreo cookie on their forehead and they had to use anything but their hands to get the cookie into their mouth. Another challenge had children trying to bounce balls into an egg carton.

This event was meant to give children a chance to have fun while they learned good team building skills in the process.

Chamber of Commerce Christmas Arts and Crafts Sale

Rosanne Fortier News Correspondent Vegreville and District Chamber of Commerce 17th Annual Christmas Arts and Crafts Sale was a Christmas shopper’s paradise as it featured more than 50 tables of the finest handmade arts and crafts at Vegreville Social Centre on November 17.

A first timer at this sale was K’s Creation which had handmade craft creations made

by Krista Muntz. Krista said these Christmas items that she made would be great as gifts or home décor. She has been creating crafts since she was little but has only been selling them for around five years.

Cathy Drost was a vendor from Edmonton who had stones she cut and polished. Later, she wire wraps and makes them into pendants or other types of jewelry and items.

Another hand crafter who was selling for the first time at this sale, Marsha Rockwell had The Fox and Posy products which she has been making for around a year and a half. Children ride on these toys which look like a stick pony. Marsha said she enjoys doing this craft so it is more of a hobby than work.

P&M Creations made by Paul and Marie Therriault who are from Viking featured bird houses and cat tower scratch posts. This was their first time at this sale and they said there was such a good turnout that they definitely plan to be at the sale next year.

Admission was by a donation to Vegreville Food Bank or Christmas Bureau.

There was also a concession stand hosted

by Vegreville Transportation Services Society.

Terrific Tech at Library Rosanne Fortier News Correspondent Children from seven to 12 years-old had a chance to use familiar, new, and different technology at the Terrific Tech program during the fall break at Vegreville Centennial Library.

There were 10 children who participated. Library Programmer Calina Sokalski said they had ipads, osmos, sphero, and coding awbie. The kids could do whatever they wanted on each piece of technology. They could play tabletop games with the osmo on the ipad.

Other technology was

available to do different things. The sphero, for instance is a little ball that people can control with the ipad.

Gospel and Music Night Rosanne Fortier News Correspondent Faith is about caring and sharing and this is what the November 17’s Perogies and Jam 7th Annual Community Gospel and Christmas Music Night at Maple Street Worship Centre was fashioned into as it shared joy, hope and, the love of music while the event generated $1110 for Vegreville Food Bank.

There were 115 people who attended. Founder of Perogies and Jam, Don Harfield was the emcee.

The event opened with Sandy Tillotson who was accompanied by Carol Baldwin as Sandy’s enthusiastically led the audience with Christmas carol singing.

Vegreville Youth Ensemble entered the stage next where they sang and danced with great rhythmic energy to many contemporary gospel songs.

This was followed by the Debbie Fedoruk Singers, Lori Borstel, and Companions on the Journey.

Before intermission, Don Harfield, Pastor of Maple Street Worship Centre, Steve Williams, and Representative from Vegreville Food Bank, Joanna Karczmarek spoke about the importance of donating to Vegreville Food Bank. Pastor Williams said their church has a close relationship with the Food Bank and they really believe in helping this cause because most people have been in need at some point in their lives. Karczmarek went on to say that the food bank provides emergency assistance to those in need and the food bank also information to get the patrons back on their feet.

The music night continued with the Alliance Church Choir, St. John’s Lutheran Singers, and more Christmas Carol singing.

All music pieces for this event had some performances with smooth voices singing while others were met by high energy

performances. All performances delivered a rich expression of faith.

Each one received a heartfelt applause.

The event closed with socializing and refreshments.

Seniors Information Session Rosanne Fortier News Correspondent Seniors obtained information about many income support programs, resources, and services that provide benefits for seniors at the Seniors Information Session on November 14 at Senior Citizen Sunshine Club of Vegreville.

Acting Citizen Services Specialist, Bijoux Katamba and Citizen Services Specialist, Isabelle Fleury-Hache from Service Canada (Federal Government) and Mary Jane Tkachyk from Alberta Services and Housing presented the information session.

Katamba began by speaking about Old Age Security Pension (OAS) which to be eligible; you need to be at least 65, be a legal resident of Canada, and have lived a minimum of 10 years in Canada after the age of 18. This usually has an automatic enrollment if you file your income tax but if not; you have to apply at least six months before and no earlier than 11 months before you turn 65.

The Guaranteed Income Supplement is meant for anyone who is receiving an Old Age Security Pension and has a low-income and is living in Canada.

The OAS allowance is available for a survivor if they are 60 to 64 whose spouse or common-law partner is deceased and has no remarried or entered into another common-law relationship and whose annual income is below the threshold.

Fleury-Hache spoke on the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) which is different than the OAS in the way that people can receive it wherever they choose to live. A person has to be 60 plus, worked in Canada and made at least one valid contribution to the CPP. The amount a person receives is based on the contributions they made to the plan.

If a person stopped working or worked less for a while because they were raising children, they might be eligible for the child-raising provision.

If a parent, spouse, or common-law partner dies, the survivors might be entitled to different benefits. One of these is a one time maximum amount of $2500.

A couple who is married or living common-law can also split their CPP with their spouse so the lower income spouse who receives a lower amount for CPP or hasn’t worked and receives no CPP can have some of their spouse’s CPP transfer to them.

This helps the higher income spouse from not paying so much income tax on it.

People who contributed to CPP can receive a Disability CPP if they are under the age of 65 and have a disability that is severe and prolonged and prevents them from working on a job on a regular basis.

Tkachyk went on to speak about Alberta Seniors Benefit which provides a monthly income supplement to OAS and Guaranteed Income Supplement.

This is based on a person’s income, residence, and marital status.

The Special Needs Assistance is another program which provides financial assistance to eligible seniors who have a low-income which they can used towards certain appliances, health and personal supports and other essentials.

The Dental and Optical Assistance is a program for low to moderate income seniors which supports basic dental coverage up to a certain amount for every five years and the optical provides a certain amount towards prescription eyeglasses every three years.

The Senior Home Adaptation and Repair Program (SHARP) allow people to obtain a lowincome interest home equity loan from the Alberta Government.

SHARP also provides a grant which is based on a person’s income that doesn’t have to be paid back and covers the costs of home repairs and modifications.

The Seniors Property Tax Deferral Program is a low-interest home equity loan program which has no income testing. To qualify you must be 65 years of age or older, be an Alberta resident, own a residential property in Alberta, and have 25% equity in your primary residence. Loan is due when primary residence changes or applicant is no longer the registered owner.

Living Well in the Autumn Years Rosanne Fortier News Correspondent Living Well in the Autumn YearsSeniors Sixth Annual Health and Wellness Day on November 7 at Senior Citizen Sunshine Club of Vegreville was a day packed full of educational speakers to help seniors take care of the challenges related to aging. This event also featured plenty of resources, entertainment, lunch, snacks, and a 50/50 draw.

Jerrold Lemkow was the emcee.

Reeve for County of Minburn, Roger Konieczny and MLA for Fort Saskatchewan/Vegreville, Jessica Littlewood brought greetings next.

Following this, Representative from Kinette Club of Vegreville, Colleen Pidzarko-Armitage presented a planning committee grant to Representative from VegMin, Holly Cependa.

Public Health Nurse, Sholayn Suiter spoke then about vaccinations which are the easiest, safest, and, most effective way we can protect our immune system from certain diseases because they work by tricking your immune system into thinking it has been expose to a disease.

Vaccines can come with some side-effects but they won’t give you the disease. We cannot infect you with any virus.

Suiter said some diseases are common in other countries and people have to get the appropriate vaccinations for certain exotic places like

your footwear is comfortable. Tack rugs and glue vinyl flooring so they lie flat.

Make sure floors are not wet and there are no obstacles in your way on the floor or stuff around that people can trip on.

For the outside, walk how a penguin would walk on icy sidewalks and make sure sidewalks aren’t uneven. For the bathroom, add grab bars in the shower, bathtub, and toilet areas. These are essential for stairways too.

Have your eyesight checked regularly because you need to check the hazards in front of you. Don’t rush to where you want to go to. Check your medication and blood pressure.

It’s essential to exercise 30 minutes a day to prevent falls but you can divide this by exercising 10 minutes each time.

Curtis Hirsch from Vegreville Drug Mart spoke on how to make healthy changes to their lifestyle. People should explore other alternatives other than medication. High blood pressure can be caused by increased age, increased weight, alcohol and tobacco use, physical inactivity, eating too many processed foods, stress, and sometimes just bad genetics.

Hirsch stated that bone breakdown can be prevented by doing weight-bearing exercises such as walking and stair climbing. Tobacco use reduces the amount of calcium absorbed in the body, alcohol can do this too.

High cholesterol can be lower by eating less fat in the diet. But eating fiber can help this. Fish and flaxseed is good.

Smoking and alcohol also make cholesterol high and exercise helps to lower it.

MJ Tkachyk from Alberta Seniors and Housing’s message was about federal pension and financial assistance for seniors that are income based.

Vegreville Fire Department said people should have smoke alarms on every level of their home and have a fire escape plan route that they practice ahead of time, look for two ways out of every room and keep hot stuff away from things that can burn.

Representative for Town of Vegreville and FCSS, Lisa Topilko said Audiologist, Jim Nelles spoke about the ears and hearing aids. Nelles said to be prepared to see an audiologist by thinking about which situations are troubling: private conversations, groups, restaurants, concerts, TV, etc. Request adjustments when new hearing aids aren’t quite right.

The Geri-Actors from Edmonton, a drama group affiliated with U of A, presented three informative plays.

“Clare and Jacob” dealt with homosexu-

al seniors, “Love Me Tinder” about internet dating for seniors, and “Sanctuary” for seniors who need to escape abuse.

Office of the Public Guardian, Kathleen Pugh, addressed Personal Directives. This is a document that everyone over the age of 18 should complete and give to a trusted person (an agent) to make critical non-financial decisions if one is incapacitated.

Vegreville Economic Review Released Emily Mailhot Reporter – Vegreville News Advertiser The plan for Vegreville’s economic diversity was released in its early stages and discussed at length this past week, with a presentation to Town Council on the evening of Tuesday, November 13, to

Vegreville business owners in the morning on Wednesday, November 14, and to the general public at an open house on Wednesday afternoon-evening.

While the plan is only just beginning, research was done using data in a number of areas over the past 2 years to determine Vegreville’s economic advantages and weaker industries when compared to those in similar municipalities.

This research was conducted by MDB Insight, with additional work on the plan being conducted by ISL Engineering.

The research also took into account the central position of Vegreville in the Eastern Alberta area, which means that many of the businesses draw customers from a radius that includes two hills, Saint Paul, Viking, and Lamont.

The retail gap analysis, as explained

by Dallas Dyson at the open house, showed that the top five spending categories in Vegreville are (in this order) grocery and specialty foods, auto/RV/ motorsport, restaurant, clothing/ apparel/footwear, and home furnishing and appliances.

The top five retail categories for floor space (consecutively) were grocery and specialty foods, auto/RV/motorsport, home improvement/garden, finance/insurance/real estate, and clothing and apparel.

The plan also covered the areas that the town will seek to improve. Value added agricultures will be one focus, because of the hi percentage of Albertan agriculture in the Vegreville area, and the opportunity for support in agriculture. The rest of the areas the Town will seek to develop are cannabis industry growth, oil and gas manufacturing, oil and gas servicing, and professional/technical/scientific. The area in which Vegreville fell short in comparison to the other municipalities it was compared with was professional/technical/scientific.

“We wanted to present all these things to the general public to get feedback on how well it resonates with reality, and peoples experience of all the different sectors,” said Dallas Dyson, “It’s important that the data and people’s experience of the economy in Vegreville line up.”

Now that the plan has been presented to Town Council and the public, it will be further studied by Council so that they can figure out the specifics of moving forward with their ideas and plans for Vegreville’s economy.
