The C-O-2 Crew and the Carbon Footprint Crisis NARRATOR: So the C-O-2 Crew heads off to find the Mayor, but on their way, a strange thing happens… OMAR: Hey guys, look at that huge footprint. OLIVIA: Wow, it sure is big. And there’s another one. CHEN: I think we’ve found a trail of carbon footprints. Let’s follow them. OLIVIA: The trail leads to Lady Goo Goo’s house. CHEN: Isn’t she a famous pop star? OMAR: Oh, yes. I love her latest song, Joker Face. You can really dance to it. It’s in my iTunes library if you want to hear it. OLIVIA: (knocking on door) I wonder why she has such a big carbon footprint? LADY GOO GOO: (pulls open the door and poses as if expecting photographers) Oh hi, it’s just you kids. I thought you were the paparazzi at my door again. What’s up? OMAR: Hi Lady Goo Goo. Energyville is having a carbon footprint crisis, and we followed some carbon footprints right to your house. LADY GOO GOO: Well come on in and tell me more about this shoe crisis you’re having. My closet is full of shoes; I should be able to help you. OLIVIA: (laughing) No, Lady Goo Goo, a carbon footprint doesn’t have anything to do with shoes. CHEN: A carbon footprint refers to the greenhouse gas emissions caused both directly, and indirectly, by an individual, a product, an organization, or an event. OLIVIA: Each person on Earth has a personal carbon footprint based on several factors – how much energy you use, the way your electricity is generated, your water use, the types of transportation you use, foods you eat, and products and services you use. OMAR: By decreasing your personal carbon footprint you can help slow down climate change. LADY GOO GOO: I definitely want to reduce my carbon footprint. OLIVIA: (shivering) Grrreat. Brrrrr. It’s so cold in here. LADY GOO GOO: Of course! I keep my air conditioning as cold as possible all summer long. My precious little doggie, Princess, can’t stand the heat. It makes her hair frizz. CHEN: Unless we start reducing your carbon footprint fast, the Mayor will shut down the power plant and there will be no electricity in Energyville. LADY GOO GOO: Without electricity, Princess will become a giant, frizzy fur ball. We’ll be a laughing stock on the red carpet. OLIVIA: I know a way Princess can stay cool while you reduce your carbon footprint. Let’s install a programmable thermostat. Properly using a programmable thermostat in your home is one of the easiest ways to save energy, money, and help fight global climate change. A programmable thermostat has pre-programmed settings to regulate your home’s temperature while you’re asleep or away on tour. ©2018 The NEED Project
