VILLAGE aurie and Chuck Holmes have seen a lot of growth in the Village Walk community. They were one of the first families to move into the budding new area in 2007. Laurie says their street was only halfway finished when they moved in. However, it didn’t take long for the Holmes family to fall in love with their new surroundings.

“We love the lifestyle living,” says Laurie, “there’s something for everybody here.” They enjoy riding bikes and walking on the numerous trails that encompass the community. They’ve lived in previous neighborhoods where the interaction between families was limited. That’s definitely not the case in Village Walk. The wide range of top-notch events are just a few of the reasons the families of Village Walk come together. The Holmes clan are experts when it comes to events, as Laurie and Chuck bring over 50 years of combined experience in event planning to the table. That’s what brought Chuck to the Orlando area over 21 years ago. The booming convention industry was a great place to help grow a business. Now, the Holmeses help throw a variety of events throughout the year that attract involvement from families of all kinds. “The great thing

WALK about this community,” says Laurie, “is that you can be involved as you want to be. You’re always welcomed back no matter how often you attend events.” This works well for some families, as they only spend part of the year in Village Walk. Laurie and Chuck both agree that it’s very important to give back to the community. Helping plan and throw events is one way they give back, but it’s not the only way. They’re both members of different boards and committees within the community and volunteer their time to local causes. The pair are deeply invested in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Chuck is a cancer survivor and laments that the cause is

extremely important to them. Laurie was recruited to help run the event close to six years ago after ACS heard that Laurie’s background was in event planning. She went from having no involvement to being the chair for the event! In her first year, they were able to raise $65,000.

Another family who loves the comradery of Village Walk is the Parekh family. Sanjay, his wife Amishi and their son moved to Village Walk from India in 2014. It was a bit of serendipity that lead to the Parekh family settling in the Village Walk area.

One of the most meaningful aspects the Holmeses love about Village Walk is the close relationships they’ve developed over the years. Many of their neighbors have become close friends, and they’ve always maintained these relationships through both good times and bad. Laurie says that the special bond with their friends and neighbors is so important for maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

Sanjay was traveling to the U.S. from India for business. He had some meetings in Columbus, Ohio and happened to see a video about

Village Walk on YouTube. Amishi was working in New York at the time and they decided to take a detour to check out the community while in the U.S. They instantly fell in love with the community and decided living there would be a dream come true. Within a couple of months, the entire family including their son and Sanjay’s mother were living in Village Walk. The beautiful design of the community was one of the first things that caught Sanjay’s eye. “The architecture is beautiful and based on the architecture in Venice, which I loved,” says Sanjay. The beautiful tennis and basketball courts, the clubhouse and the manicured landscaping all set the community apart from others in the area. Sanjay has also enjoyed the move to a more relaxed Village Walk area, as opposed to the hustling, bustling streets of Mumbai. It’s there in India that Sanjay learned all about running a large-scale, international business. His father owned a manufacturing plant there and Sanjay joined the family business. He wasn’t handed anything, Sanjay started on the manufacturing floor and worked in all areas of the business before taking over the operation of the company. After moving to the U.S., Sanjay decided he wanted to use that invaluable business experience to help local business owners. He now works as a business coach and advisor helping business owners all over the area grow their business while maintaining a work life balance that provides for a happy, healthy family life. The Parekh family’s love of the community extends well beyond business. The family loves the cosmopolitan nature of the Village Walk neighborhood. Many of their neighbors come from all over the world and they enjoy celebrating all of the cultures represented. One of their favorite celebrations is Diwali, an event celebrating the Indian New Year. Sanjay and Amishi began planning the event the first year they moved to the community. They’d hoped for only 30-40 people to attend the event, however, over 100 people showed up from all types of cultures. Now, they’ve grown the event to nearly 200 people and invite leaders of the community to come celebrate as guests of honor.

The architecture is beautiful and based on the architecture in Venice, which I loved.

It’s only the beginning for the Parekh family, as they look to help the community continue to grow closer in the future.

Arisara Lynch: Finished her MBA and MS degree and was currently employed at Northrop Grumman in Chicagoland area and landed a job at Lockheed Marin and moved here solo in late 2007. Brian Lynch: Graduated High School and got accepted and attended University of Central Florida for his undergrad BS and then MS in Computer Science starting in 2004. Both have lived in Orlando since. Favorite Local Hangout? In Lake Nona, we love having date nights at Choma or Nona Blue. We shop at the Sam’s Club and Walmart weekly. Favorite family activities? Going to Moss Park with the kids. Most have young children or no children yet so our little ones (Evan, 5 and Natalia, 3) have many kids to interact, meet, play, and grow-up with. The people who live here are genuine and we all get along well. We have neighborhood activities for the adults and children. It is truly a wonderful place to raise a family!

If you could change one thing about Central Florida what would it be? The humidity in the Summer can be unbearable at times. Other than that, the other 9 months out of the year I love.
