Our Mission is to raise national awareness for childhood cancer. We raise funds for research and clinical trials that will one day lead to a CURE. 100% of the funds raised for clinical trials and research are earmarked and donated towards promising protocols. We have a diverse program that provides mentorship for advocates. It is our goal to empower children battling cancer to follow their dreams and find their platform to raise awareness. As an organization we strive to make talking about childhood cancer an invitation for change. Our Glam WARS program, the Pet Walk and the Orlando Goes Gold partnership are events that many families impacted by childhood cancer and the Central Florida community can come together and conquer childhood cancer together. 2

Meet the
MILLER & HALL FAMILIES
It’s a really great community to be in, it’s very close, very family-oriented which is important to us. he serene lakes and breathtaking views of nature make Lake Pointe an ideal place for many families. The Millers, Chanta and Michael, are just one of the couples that call Lake Pointe home. Chanta, originally from Texas and Michael, from Alabama, settled into the Eagle Creek area in 2011. They fell in love with the up and coming vibe of the area. A year later, they discovered the Lake Pointe area after a friend told them to come and check it out. “We were looking for a place that just offered more,” said Chanta, “and we wanted something that was connected

CENTRAL FLORIDA MONTHLY
to a lake.” Lake Pointe checked both of those boxes, plus a lot more, so they decided to purchase a home there. The lake access was important for the family since the Millers love to spend time on and around the water. Some of the family’s favorite activities are spending time at the beaches and on the lake. The Millers say that it is also a very close-knit community. “It’s a really great community to be in, it’s very close, very family-oriented which is important to us.” They also love the fact that there are many things going on in and around the Lake

Pointe community. It allows their children, Mykah, 10, and Michael Jr, 4, to get involved in all kinds of different activities. They both play soccer and Mykah loves to dance as well. This year she willl be starting Tennis at the USTA facility and playing golf. Michael Jr also loves to play basketball. When they’re not playing sports or hanging out by the water, the Miller family loves to enjoy a home-cooked meal along with quality time surrounded by family and friends. The Millers are also extremely involved in the community. Chanta is the Executive Director for the Indian American Chamber of Commerce in Orlando. She has held that position for three years and helps run the organization in many different facets. She also owns and manages Spa W, located inside the WaterCrest Senior Living community in Lake Nona. The spa caters to the residents as well as the surrounding community. Anyone looking for quality spa treatment can make an appointment. Michael holds a position as a Senior Simulations

Engineer and travels all over the world for his career. They are also a part of ReThink Life. Faith is a very important part of life for the Millers, and they love being a part of the growing family at ReThink Life. The family says that they love Lake Pointe and feel very fortunate to live in such a great community. The Hall family is another clan that says they feel fortunate to call Lake Pointe home. They have lived in the community since 2006. The Halls say that it is the relaxed feel along with the lakefront property that attracted them to the area. They live on East Lake Toho and say that they love the peaceful feeling of living right on the water. “There’s nothing behind you,” says Jen, “it’s beautiful, you can see the water, the conservation, the wildlife, it’s really peaceful.” The family loves the feel of being surrounded by nature, but still being close to civilization. They have witnessed a lot

of growth in the area since they moved there and enjoy having so many amenities nearby.

With the lake in you’re on the lake. their backyard, it allows them to enjoy the neighborhood celebrations as well as the nearby theme parks. “You can see the fireworks from all around the county,” says Jen, “from St. Cloud, Kissimmee, Disney, Sea World. It’s a 360 degree view when you’re on the lake.” It has been a busy couple of weeks for the Halls. Their two youngest children, CJ, 10, and Capria, 8, just began the school year at elementary school. Their oldest daughter, Mataya, just started her sophomore year at Florida Atlantic University. CJ and Capria go to school at nearby, A-rated Narcoossee Elementary School, which is very convenient for everyone. The middle school is also right next door to the elementary school, which will make for an easy transition when the kids transition forward. Jen says that she loves the fact she can ride her bike to pick up the kids. When they are spending time together as a family, they love to boat, bike ride, fish and go to the beach. The family says that they love the proximity to various Florida beaches. They love to travel to Melbourne and Vero Beach, two of the Hall’s favorite beach destinations. They also love to go to the theme parks, and the close proximity the family lives to them. The Hall family loves to play golf too, and they enjoy having access to all the great local courses nearby. Jen’s husband, Clifton, is involved in the medical community. He is a Business Partner in Interventional Cardiology & Structural Heart at Boston Scientific. He covers hospitals from Daytona Beach to Naples. They love to volunteer their time to supporting the local hospitals and other local causes like the St. Cloud Food Pantry. The couple are also incredibly involved in their church. They attend Faith Assembly of God on Curry Ford Road. Supporting local, family-owned businesses is also something that is very important to them.

Name: LaThesia R. Hardy Business Name: Chill Pop Lounge What inspired you to build your own business? I was your typical corporate American gal traveling on business and came across a cute (and tempting) ice pop shop. While there I observed the happy energy of children and adults, some casual and some in business attire, together in one place laughing and enjoying their frozen treats. In that moment all the stresses of the day melted away. Moved by this experience, I knew I needed to create an environment in my community where people could relax and “kick back and CHILL!� While there, I was blessed to meet the owner who told me he had a similar experience while on vacation with his family. Since that time, he has been gracious enough to share his experiences, his challenges, his opportunities.

His willingness to share these things has definitely made me a better and smarter business owner. What influences your work? My need to ensure that everything we do for Chill Pop Lounge is done with the utmost thought and care. From the ingredients that go into our pops and shakes to the passion and love we share when making our fabulous pops! I also believe that a key to our success in the service industry is to have well trained, motivated people who have high morale, integrity, and aptitude. Everyone on the Chill Pop team is excited to be part of Chill Pop Lounge! What sets you apart from your competitors? Chill Pop Lounge sells hand-crafted, high-end, gourmet ice pops made with fresh ingredients (locally sourced and organic when possible). As far as I know, we are the only frozen dessert in the Lake Nona area that offers these gourmet, handmade ice pops (both healthy and decadent options). I’m also not aware of any local
businesses serving sinfully delicious adult pops (Chill Pop 21+) and adult boozy shakes. Some flavor options for our Chill Pop 21+ frozen treats include our two bestselling items, Pina Colada Escape and Blue Lagoon. Our bestselling shakes include Kahlua & Cream and Twisted Key Lime! Our shakes start with your choice of gourmet hand-dipped ice cream (which is also made fresh from a local vendor). Many of our biggest fans have been around since we were in a little Key West blue Food Truck serving up our Strawberry Patch, Butter Pecan, Good Ol’ Chocolate or Very Vanilla Bean ice cream! We love seeing our loyal customers smile with each bite and ooh and aaah as they try new offerings. How did you acquire your skills? I assembled a team of amazing individuals who make up the brain-trust of Chill Pop Lounge! As a first step in bringing my vision of offering healthy, gourmet, hand-crafted ice pops to Central Florida, I opened our charming Key West vibes food truck. I managed and worked
the Chill Pop Lounge food truck gaining valuable experience and as mentioned earlier, an incredible loyal following (you know who you are)! Additionally, I bring a vast amount of knowledge to the Chill Pop Lounge team from my extensive experience of working with people. I worked in the field of Human Resource Management for over 25 years and I am a Certified Professional in Human Resources. As I said, I have a team of amazing individuals. Opening Chill Pop Lounge in July 2015 and continuing as a successful small business in the community has allowed me to realize my dream of bringing a delectable product and happiness to my community! What has been your biggest challenge? Having to move out of our charming Key West vibes food truck trailer due to development of a shopping center. However, out of that challenge has come our great new location where we have brought that same Key West vibe indoors! We love to see everyone’s reaction the first time they walk in and see our little Key West “home.” We’ve been asked if we took part of our food truck and brought it inside, but nope, our food truck is still intact. Jennifer had the great idea of building that so you get the same fabulous atmosphere when you walk in the front doors (again, I do have an amazing team of creative people)! What advice do you have for anyone trying to start their own business? Be curious and learn all you can. Attend SBA classes to gain knowledge regarding owning a business- the classes are free! Find a business owner to mentor you prior to opening your business! Have 3 times the amount of startup funds than you think that you will need!!! Where can people find you? From Lake Nona, we are ¼ mile from Narcoosee Elementary School on the left. Our exact location is: 2483 N Narcoossee Rd in St Cloud. We are 2 ¼ miles south of Boggy Creak next to the Circle K / BP gas station next to Circle K.
