It assumes a leading position in every discipline and offers fun at the wheel in every respect, with no half-hearted compromises. It impresses with characteristics which are generally deemed to be irreconcilable: it succeeds in uniting excellent comfort and high quality equipment and appointments with a sporty flair. At the same time the new roadster is one of the most economical and environmentally friendly in its class and sets new safety standards. All-weather driving enjoyment - with the roof open and closed, in leisure-time and everyday use - is firmly anchored in the SLK’s genes. 4

The designers have tailor-made a body for the new SLK which emphasises its classic roadster proportions and puts them into the spotlight for thrilling effect. Behind the long bonnet is a compact passenger compartment positioned far back, and a short tail end. The SLK will tempt potential customers with the key attributes that characterise all the classic roadsters from Mercedes-Benz and that have also made many of them automotive icons of the brand. The first feature to catch the eye is an upright radiator grille that stands proud and confident in the wind and bears the new Mercedes-Benz brand look. It facilitates the long and well-proportioned bonnet and with its rearward light-catching contours it already hints at the roadster’s dynamic qualities. The wide radiator grille bears the Mercedes-Benz star in a prominent central position and displays a powerfully contoured, chromed fin at the front.The defined headlamps complete the look for the new SLK’s face, which resembles that of the legendary 190 SL from the 1950s, which is regarded by many as being the original “SLK”. But it was certainly not just the past that the designers were focusing on; with the new SLK’s front end they also intentionally created a close visual link with the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG “gullwing model” and the new CLS. The amazing and measurable proof of the meticulously detailed work that has been carried out is that in spite of the more striking, steeper front and the larger frontal area, the Cd value has been cut to just 0.30 - a brilliant achievement (the predecessor model’s Cd value was 0.32). The timelessly classic shape of the side view with the classic roadster proportions embodies aesthetics of the highest calibre and is a visual promise of the sportiness and driving pleasure in store. Fine details and quotes show the care that has been taken by the Mercedes-Benz designers. For example, a fillet conceals the boot joint, so that the side line cannot get in the way, as it usually does with similar roof designs. The ventilation grilles in the front wings with a

chromed fin are reminiscent of the famous MercedesBenz roadsters of the 1950s. In the new SLK they form the perfect starting point for a feature line which flows to the muscular rear wing, using light and shadow to add style and timeless aesthetics to the sides. Meanwhile the upper edge of the wide headlamps which boast all-LED technology for the first time - also appears to flow into the feature line. With the most compact dimensions in its class, the new SLK has an interior whose generous size is exemplary. To achieve this, the designers have developed interior appointments which offer the driver

and passenger the highest degree of perfect perceived quality and puristic precision. The interior is characterised by stylish sportiness and high-quality, authentic materials which have been processed with perfect precision and skilled craftsmanship. The centre console and other trim parts gleam in brushed aluminium. Wood can be selected as an option in highgloss dark brown walnut or high-gloss black ash. Four round, galvanised air outlets integrated in the dashboard emphasise that this model well and truly belongs to the Mercedes-Benz sports car family, their shape being a nod to those in the SLS.

Porsche 911 Black Edition Just 1,911 examples worldwide The Porsche 911 Black Editions offer the core 911 principles of distinctive design with inner strength; with a high level of specification that emphasises the iconic styling of the car and enhances the interior, while retaining the authentic sporting character of the driving experience. Available in just 1,911 examples worldwide, the 911 Black Edition is painted in plain black as standard, with Basalt Black metallic available as an option. The electric-folding hood of the Cabriolet model is trimmed in black cloth. Exterior highlights are provided by the 19-inch 911 Turbo II forged alloy wheels, the glossy metallic appearance of which perfectly complements the discreet elegance of these 911 models. In addition, the wheel rims provide an unobstructed view of the brake discs which are naturally paired with black-finished, four-piston aluminium monobloc fixed callipers. Black lettering on the stainless steel door entry guards identifies each ‘Black Edition’, and provides a first hint of the high-quality interior design with its focus on pure sports car values. Inside, the colour theme of the exterior continues with a black leather interior, and facing the driver is a thick-rimmed SportDesign steering wheel. The instrument cluster naturally remains in black. On the glove compartment lid, a badge testifies to the limited production run of the 911 Black Edition. By way of contrast, the decorative fascia strip, gear lever and air vents are finished in aluminium-look paint. The rear centre console is painted in the exterior colour. Together with the characteristic exhaust note of the flat-six 3.6-litre engine, a further acoustic highlight of the 911 Black Edition is the BOSE® Surround Sound-System that is fitted as standard. This was specially coordinated with the interior of the 911 Carrera and comprises 13 loudspeakers (twelve in the Cabriolet) including an active subwoofer and central speaker as well as a seven channel digital amplifier. Combined, this delivers a total output of 385 W for an immersive sound experience. 6

Also standard on the Black Edition models is satellite navigation, and a universal audio interface in the central console storage compartment that enables an MP3 player to be connected to the audio. Every 911 Black Edition also features rear ParkAssist, cruise control, automatic dimming anti-dazzle interior and exterior mirrors, and rain-sensing windscreen wipers. The technology of the 911 Black Edition conforms to the Carrera standard: Under the rear lid is to be found the typical Carrera flat-six cylinder engine, producing 345 hp (245 kW) at 6,500 rpm from 3,614cc. Coupled with the six-speed gearbox, this output delivers a top speed of 180 mph in both body versions. At its maximum acceleration, the Coupé reaches 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.9 seconds, the Cabriolet in 5.1 seconds. Combined with such impressive performance figures are remarkably moderate running costs; the 911 Black Series Coupé, for example, returns 27.4mpg Combined (NEDC). The 911 Black Edition enjoys the same technical special equipment options that are offered for all Carrera models. First and foremost is the Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) double-clutch gearbox. A 911 Carrera with PDK turns in record performances thanks to the seven ratios and quick gear changes achieved with no interruption to the power flow. On the one hand fuel consumption: at 29.4 mpg (9.6 l/100 km) and 28.5 mpg (9.9 l/100 km) for the closed and open-top 911 respectively, the Carreras dip under the 10 l/100km threshold. On the other hand dynamics: with PDK, the Coupé accomplishes the sprint in only 4.7 seconds, the Cabrio in 4.9 seconds. Responsiveness can also be further enhanced by the optional Sport Chrono Plus package. It features the additional "Launch Control" function for the fastest possible acceleration from a standing start allied with a gearshift strategy for extremely sporty driving that enables very fast gearshifts. Launch Control shaves a further 0.2 seconds off the acceleration times of vehicles equipped with PDK. The sportiness and comfort of the 911 Black Edition can be enhanced further if so desired.

For example, the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and as an additional option for the Coupé, the PASM with sports chassis lowered by 20 millimetres and mechanical rear limited slip differential. To further optimisebraking performance, Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) are also available at extra cost. The 911 Black Edition goes on sale in the UK and Ireland from April 2011 and is priced from £67,270 for

the Coupé and £74,958 for the Cabriolet - the same price as the standard 911 Carrera models. Affalterbach - The successful Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG is now more attractive than ever: the modified design of the top-of-the-range C-Class model is complemented by numerous enhancements to its technology which deliver even more driving enjoyment while significantly improving fuel consumption. The latest 2011 generation of the C 63 AMGis now more dynamic and athletic than ever.Thanks to its new radiator grille with a large Mercedes star and a wingtype transverse louvre, as well as a new AMG front apron with a lower cross member painted in high-gloss black, special AMG daytime running lights and side air outlets, the front section recalls the look of the SL 63 AMG high-performance roadster. The new bonnet with its modified powerdomes is now made of aluminium. New clear-lens headlamps emphasise the car's distinctive, self-confident presence and the Intelligent Light System (ILS) is fitted as standard. The wide front wings with the "6.3 AMG" legend and the new 5 twin-spoke AMG light-alloy wheels which are painted in titanium grey and have a high-sheen finish 8

dominate the side view. Good contact with the road is provided by the wide 235/40 R 18 and 255/35 R 18 tyres at front and rear respectively. The rear view of the C 63 AMGalso evokes the SL 63 AMG: the new AMG rear apron has a distinctive, black diffuser insert with three pronounced diffuser fins.The two chromed twin tailpipes of the AMG sports exhaust system are as pleasing to the ear as they are to the eye. The naturally aspirated eight-cylinder engine with its large displacement of 6208 cc develops 457 hp at 6800 rpm and attains a peak torque of 600 newton metres at 5000 rpm. A look at the performance figures confirms that the new C 63 AMGretains its predecessor's position as the top performing model in its segment: acceleration from standstill to 62 mph in just 4.5 seconds (Estate: 4.6 s) while the top speed is 155 mph (electronically limited). Even a quick glance at the interior of the C 63 AMG reveals the considerable progress which has been made: the completely new dashboard design with an

lacquer trim elements and the new rotary control for selecting the transmission modes C, S, S+, M and RACESTART. Bentley Continental Flying Spur ‘Series 51’ design options unveiled The Flying Spur has attracted a new generation of luxury car buyers to the Bentley marque and has played a pivotal role in the company’s revitalisation.The Flying Spur’s blend of craftsmanship, dynamic performance, style and practicality appeals in equal measure to those who demand an exciting driving experience and those seeking refinement and comfort. Now the luxurious style of the Flying Spur is even more compelling with the introduction of a range of dramatic Series 51 designs, first seen on the Continental GT and GTC. Customers of both the Flying Spur and Flying Spur Speed models may now select from a range of 14 Series 51 designs, recommended by Bentley’s colour and trim experts. In addition, all Continental Flying Spur and Supersports models are now specified as standard with a state-ofthe-art, 30GB touchscreen infotainment system, seamlessly integrated into their handcrafted cabins. Series 51 represents Bentley design at its most vibrant. Bentley has also created a unique Series 51 graphite-finished nine-spoke, 19-inch sports alloy wheel, while twin Series 51 wing badges, positioned behind the front wheel arches, complete the bespoke look. The Virage sits low and wide asserting the power which lies beneath; single bi-xenon headlamps follow the lines of the car’s flanks to give a more crisp and modern look from the front. A new aluminium metal front grille, inspired by the One-77, features five horizontal vanes which are chamfered creating an aerofoil profile. The new front bumper is pure and relieves the car of any visual complexities, contributing to the overall simplicity of design.The front wings distinguish the Virage from 16

its stable mates housing a new modern interpretation of the Aston Martin iconic side strake housing six LEDs elegantly forming the side repeater. Virage’s side sills carry the simplicity of the front bumper through to the rear diffuser which houses a body-coloured blade accentuating the width of the car. As drivers and passengers open the signature swan wing doors, they are greeted by the aroma of seven hides of the finest Bridge of Weir leather expertly hand stitched by craftsmen. Inspiration has been taken from luxury leather goods to produce a pinstripe welt which flows down either side of the facia and along the seat and door, drawing your eye through the car. Each Virage will have 70 man hours of expert craftsmanship lavished on the interior alone to create the famous sophisticated Aston Martin interior. In all, over 200 man hours will be spent handcrafting the Virage at Aston Martin’s global headquarters in Gaydon,Warwickshire, England as it becomes the tenth major production car to be built there in the space of less than eight years. Standard equipment includes heated seats (Sports seats only), cruise control, satellite navigation, Bluetooth telephone preparation and the powerful 700W Aston Martin Premium Audio System with Dolby Pro Logic II and full iPod integration. Aston Martin AMR-One Aston Martin Racing recently announced its plans for the new season including the unveiling of a new ground-up developed LMP1 race car, the AMR-One, as well as confirming the driver line-up and planned race programme.

the AMR-One features the new blade-fin and has a significantly down-sized engine in keeping with the championship’s efficiency focused regulations. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a six-speed transverse semi automatic pneumatic shift, Xtrac racing gearbox.

The Gulf Liveried Aston Martin AMR-One is a new open-top LMP1 race car featuring a 2.0 litre turbocharged six cylinder direct injection petrol engine which has been developed for a new bespoke carbon fibre chassis designed and manufactured by Aston Martin Racing.

A total of six AMR-Ones will be built, with the factory team running one car in the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup (ILMC) which includes the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans and two cars at selected events. The AMR-One is linked to Aston Martin’s ultimate design and engineering showcase; the road going One-77; both of which share similar philosophies featuring carbon fibre monocoques. Aston Martin’s in-house design team worked closely with the engineers at Aston Martin Racing to find the optimum balance between aesthetics and aerodynamics.

Based on the new regulations for 2011 instigated by the Le Mans governing body; the ACO, Aston Martin Racing has chosen to change tack this year in designing an open cockpit car. In line with the new 2011 rules,

The driver line up for 2011 will consist of Darren Turner (GB) Stefan Mücke (D) and another driver yet to be announced, who will join the team piloting the 007 car. Adrian Fernandez (MX), Andy Meyrick (GB) and Harold Primat (CH) will be teaming up to drive the 009 car.

It is expected that Aston Martin Racing will contend selected races in the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup with rounds in the United States (Petit Le Mans), Belgium (Spa), France (Le Mans), Italy (Imola), England (Silverstone) and China (TBC) and make its debut at Paul Ricard on the 1-3 April 2011. The AMR-One is expected to test for the first time in early March.

It is based on an innovative monocoque made from carbon-fiber that combines exceptional lightweight engineering with the highest levels of stiffness and safety. The new twelve-cylinder with 6.5 liters’ displacement and 515 kW / 700 hp brings together the ultimate in high-revving pleasure with astonishing low-end torque. Thanks to a dry weight of only 1,575 kilograms (3,472 lb), which is extremely low for this class of vehicle, the weight-topower ratio stands at only 2.25 kilograms per hp (4.96 lb/hp). Even the fantastic 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration figure of just 2.9 seconds and the top speed of 217 mph do not fully describe the Aventador’s extreme performance. And yet, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are down by around 20 percent compared with its predecessor, despite the considerable increase in power.

The ISR transmission is unique among road-going vehicles, guaranteeing the fastest shifting time of only 50 milliseconds and a highly emotional shift feel, while the lightweight chassis with pushrod suspension delivers absolute handling precision and competitionlevel performance. The designers in the Centro Stile Lamborghini have carefully developed this design language to give the Aventador a significant new edge. The Aventador’s spacious interior combines the fine exclusivity of premium materials and perfect Italian craftsmanship with state-of-the-art technology and generous equipment. The red switch cover on the broad center tunnel encloses the start button used to awaken the twelve-cylinder. Engineers at Lamborghini have created the perfect mate for the new twelve-cylinder engine with the highly innovative ISR (Independent Shifting Rods) transmission.The development objective was clearly formulated - to build not only the fastest robotized gearbox, but also to create the world’s most emotional gear shift. Compared with a dual-clutch transmission, not only is the ISR gearbox much lighter, it also has smaller dimensions than a conventional manual unit - both key elements in the field of lightweight engineering for super sports cars.

This kind of extreme power must be delivered reliably to the road. The driver of the Aventador LP 700-4 can depend fully on its permanent all-wheel drive - indicated by the 4 in the model designation. In the driveline, an electronically controlled Haldex coupling distributes the forces between front and rear. In a matter of milliseconds, this coupling adapts the force distribution to match the dynamic situation.
