Secondary School

Congratulations to the Dawson Creek Secondary School Graduating Class of 2017 Giving up on your goal because of one setback is like slashing the other three tires because you got a flat.

I would like to congratulate the Dawson Creek Secondary School Class of 2017. The road to graduation is often a long one filled with bumps, twists, elevation changes, and straight stretches. Road variations, like the changing timetables the students experienced, caused the students to learn how to make adjustments while keeping the ultimate destination of graduation in focus. Navigating the road required an ever evolving, and developing set of skills particularly, when our drivers were faced with unique challenges such as changing weather conditions and traffic. Weather and traffic looked like working to understand the expectations of new teachers each semester, working with substitute teachers, dealing with changing administration, suffering social stresses, and experiencing changing economic conditions. Each condition was not always easy to address, maneuver around, or work through but our grads persevered. The Board of Wisdom website has a rather profound quote: ‘Giving up on your goal because of one setback is like slashing the other three tires because you got a flat.’ Our grads each experienced setbacks on their journey, found ways to overcome them, repaired their tires and got back on the road!

It is with great pleasure that I have the opportunity to welcome each grad upon their arrival at their destination, the stage, at the Encana Events Center on June 23. I believe each grad will, in the words of Judy Halbert and Linda Kaser, ‘cross the stage with dignity, purpose and options,’ as a result of the skills and knowledge they acquired on their road trip! It is with great satisfaction that I have the opportunity to shake hands with grads and watch as they ceremoniously move their tassels from the right side of their cap to the left. The movement of the tassel symbolizes the achievement of earning the British Columbia graduation diploma; the end of one highly significant road trip. One journey tends to lead to another. Our grads will continue to engage in the great road trip of life! On behalf of the staff of Dawson Creek Secondary School, I wish the Grad Class of 2017 health, happiness and continued success in achieving personal goals!

Congratulations Ron Pettigrew Christian graduates!

RPCS Grads of 2017, when I think of you several words come to my mind… happy, individual, kindhearted, gifted, determined, and influencers of people. In numbers you are small – in character you are great. Mej Fernandez, J’Zee Morin-Berg, Francis Obeta, Garrett Tower and Gillian Walton, what you have given this school is priceless. One of the joys of having a kindergarten to grade 12 school is that we have been blessed to watch as you grow and change, as your character and personalities are more defined, as your strengths become more evident…as you become you. Because I see your footprints on so many areas of the school, I decided to add up the number of years that you, as a group, have been at RPCS... are you ready? 31.5 years. That’s impressive, that’s a lot of influence. Mej, thank you for your impact here, you are a joy-giver. Your endless energy, bright outlook on life, strong faith and perpetual smile have lifted the spirit of each person in this school more than once – young or old, student or staff member . God bless you for that. J’Zee, thank you for your impact here, you are a gentle soul filled with grace and kindness. Your sincere concern for others is evident in your kind words and helping hands. Though you are quiet spoken, your compassion for others speaks loud and clear. God bless you for that. More than one Francis, thank you for your impact here, you are a quiet strength. Your tremendous smile, sincere faith, loyalty and height (6’8”) help you stand out here. You are passionate about what you believe in and communicate it well to those around you. God bless you for that. Garrett, thank you for your impact here, you are a friend and an encourager. You started here in kindergarten and have been here through grade 12 and it has been our blessing. Your deep faith, determination, upbeat and fun loving personality have touched us all. God bless you for that. Gillian, thank you for your impact here, you are a quiet young lady who knows what she wants. Your focus and single-mindedness have served you well in high school and will certainly help you accomplish your goal of work with young children. God bless you in that.

Your chosen theme for your graduation fits each of you so well – JOY. Isaiah 55:12 says, “You will go out with joy and be led forth with peace.” (NAS Bible) Gillian and J’Zee you have brought joy to RPCS in working one-on-one with the younger students. They have so enjoyed their time with you “big kids” and you’ve made an impact on them. Mej, Francis and Garrett you have brought joy to our school community through the excellent teamwork and respect you have displayed so excellently on the basketball court these

last few years….both locally and provincially. Thank you for showing us that all things are possible. God bless you as you go from here…. you will always be a part of us…and we will always be a part of you. Go out with joy……and be led with peace. May the joy that you have brought to this school follow you for a lifetime. Sincerely, Mrs. Roch

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

GRAD 2017 23

Christian School

Congratulations MCS Graduates! Graduating from High School is an exciting time! Congratulations on reaching your goal. Your diploma now qualifies you to pursue your vocational dreams. About the time you leave high school you will begin to make decisions that will have an affect on the rest of your life. It is so easy to focus entirely on your career goals and personal accomplishments. Your diploma and your future careers are only things that relate to your life here on earth, therefore I would like to encourage you to reflect of God’s priorities and desires for life. At MCS you have been taught the key to everlasting success and a joy that lasts even through trials and struggles. Living a righteous and thankful life, serving others and loving the Lord is the key to a fulfilled life. An admirable characteristic of any adult Jordan Dean is one who is thankful and grateful in every situation. Be thankful to God- he has been good to you, be thankful to your parents- even though you are adults, you are still obligated according to scripture to obey and honour your parents. The happiest people have a genuine way of communicating love and thankfulness to their families, friends, and coworkers. Live a good life! Today is a momentous Stephen Ostermann day to take some time to think about your future. What do you want to be remembered for? Begin to live in that way. I hope your love for Jesus will be at the top of this list. Salvation is the single most crucial decision you can make. Salvation is eternal. Titus 2: 11-14 teaches us to live soberly, righteously, and Godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our Great God.

As George Elliot says, “What do we live for, if not to make life less difficult for each other. Don’t rush past others to reach your goal, we are all just doing the best we can, and our best would be so much more wonderful if we did our best to make the lives of people around us better. If everyone wants everyone else to be okay- wouldn’t this life be a whole lot more enjoyable? Love one another, serve one another, and you will be blessed. Proverbs 3 tells us to, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all they ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.” Our understanding is so limited in comparison to His. Know His word and you will know what is required of you. You will know that caring for others pleases God so much!! And, most importantly, love Jesus, fall Daniel Johnson in love with His word. You will feel the most satisfied when you truly learn to delight in His word. A heart void of the Word can not be truly happy. Through the Word you will be cared for spiritually and you will be able to stand confidently when life throws you the unexpected. Graduation is a perfect time for spiritual goals, vocational goals, and a time to love life and make memories. Don’t waste any Jason Rempel time! Celebrate! Live your life to the fullest, and do it all for the Glory of God!

Congratulation Stephen, Jordan, Jason, Dusty and Daniel – Well done. Eva Hutchinson Prinicipal

Congratulations Shane Thomas! May you succeed in all you do!
