Joy To The World Joy to the world, the Lord is come! Let earth receive her King; Let every heart prepare Him room, And Heaven and nature sing, And Heaven and nature sing, And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing.

He rules the world with truth and grace, And makes the nations prove The glories of His righteousness, And wonders of His love, And wonders of His love, And wonders, wonders, of His love

Joy to the earth, the Savior reigns! Let men their songs employ; While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains Repeat the sounding joy, Repeat the sounding joy, Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy. No more let sins and sorrows grow, Nor thorns infest the ground; He comes to make His blessings flow Far as the curse is found, Far as the curse is found, Far as, far as, the curse is found.

Deck The Halls Deck the halls with boughs of holly, Fa la la la la, la la la la. Tis the season to be jolly, Fa la la la la, la la la la.

Follow me in merry measure, Fa la la la la, la la la la. While I tell of Yule tide treasure, Fa la la la la, la la la la.

Don we now our gay apparel, Fa la la, la la la, la la la. Troll the ancient Yule tide carol, Fa la la la la, la la la la.

Fast away the old year passes, Fa la la la la, la la la la. Hail the new, ye lads and lasses, Fa la la la la, la la la la.

See the blazing Yule before us, Fa la la la la, la la la la. Strike the harp and join the chorus. Fa la la la la, la la la la.

Sing we joyous, all together, Fa la la la la, la la la la. Heedless of the wind and weather, Fa la la la la, la la la la

Jingle Bells Dashing through the snow On a one-horse open sleigh, Over the fields we go, Laughing all the way; Bells on bob-tail ring, Making spirits bright, What fun it is to ride and sing A sleighing song tonight Jingle bells, jingle bells, Jingle all the way! O what fun it is to ride In a one-horse open sleigh A day or two ago, I thought I’d take a ride, And soon Miss Fanny Bright Was seated by my side; The horse was lean and lank; Misfortune seemed his lot; He got into a drifted bank, And we, we got upsot. Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the way! What fun it is to ride In a one-horse open sleigh.

A day or two ago, The story I must tell I went out on the snow And on my back I fell; A gent was riding by In a one-horse open sleigh, He laughed as there I sprawling lie, But quickly drove away. Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the way! What fun it is to ride In a one-horse open sleigh. Now the ground is white Go it while you’re young, Take the girls tonight And sing this sleighing song; Just get a bob-tailed bay Two-forty as his speed Hitch him to an open sleigh And crack! you’ll take the lead. Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the way! What fun it is to ride In a one-horse open sleigh.

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer had a very shiny nose. And if you ever saw him, you would even say it glows. All of the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names. They never let poor Rudolph join in any reindeer games.

Then one foggy Christmas Eve Santa came to say: “Rudolph with your nose so bright, won’t you guide my sleigh tonight?” Then all the reindeer loved him as they shouted out with glee, Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, you’ll go down in history!

Soon it will be Christmas day.

Strings of street lights, even stop lights Blink a bright red and green As the shoppers rush home with their treasures. Hear the snow crunch, see the kids bunch. This is Santa’s big scene. Here Comes Santa Claus

Songwriters: Felix Bernard / Richard B Smith

Speaking of Christmas spirit, each year out in Hollywood, California They have what they call the Santa Claus parade A few years ago, while I was riding in this parade I saw smiles on thousands of faces, both young and old alike Waiting for a look at that most popular man all over the world I can hear ‘em shouting now “Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus” Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus right down Santa Claus Lane Vixen and Blitzen and all his reindeer pullin’ on the reins Bells are ringin’, children singin’, all is merry and bright So hang your stockings and say your prayers ‘cause Santa Claus comes tonight Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus right down Santa Claus Lane He’s got a bag that’s filled with toys for boys and girls again Hear those sleigh bells jingle jangle, oh what a beautiful sight So jump in bed, and cover your head, ‘cause Santa Claus comes tonight Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus right down Santa Claus Lane He’ll come around when chimes ring out, it’s Christmas time again Peace on earth will come to all, if we just follow the light So let’s give thanks to the Lord above ‘cause Santa Claus comes tonight Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus right down Santa Claus Lane Vixen and Blitzen and all his reindeer pullin’ on the reins Bells are ringin’, children singin’, all is merry and bright So jump in bed, and cover your head, ‘cause Santa Claus comes tonight Peace on earth will come to all, if we just follow the light So let’s give thanks to the Lord above ‘cause Santa Claus comes tonight So let’s give thanks to the Lord above ‘cause Santa Claus comes tonight

Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer Grandma got run over by a reindeer Walking home from our house Christmas eve You can say there’s no such thing as Santa But as for me and grandpa we believe She’d been drinking too much eggnog And we begged her not to go But she forgot her medication And she staggered out the door into the snow When we found her Christmas morning At the scene of the attack She had hoof-prints on her forehead And incriminating Claus marks on her back Grandma got run over by a reindeer Walking home from our house Christmas eve You can say there’s no such thing as Santa But as for me and grandpa we believe Now we’re all so proud of grandpa He’s been taking this so well See him in there watching football Drinking beer and playing cards with cousin Mel It’s not Christmas without Grandma All the family’s dressed in black And we just can’t help but wonder Should we open up her gifts Or send them back (send them back)

All I Want for Christmas Everybody stops and stares at me These two teeth are gone as you can see I don’t know just who to blame for this catastrophe But my one wish on Christmas Eve is as plain as can be All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth My two front teeth See my two front teeth Gee, if I could only have my two front teeth Then I could wish you, “Merry Christmas” It seems so long since I could say “Sister, Susie sitting on a thistle!” Gosh, oh gee, how happy I’d be, if I could only whistle All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth My two front teeth See my two front teeth Gee, if I could only have my two front teeth Then I could wish you, “Merry Christmas” It seems so long since I could say “Sister, Susie sitting on a thistle!” Gosh, oh gee, how happy I’d be, if I could only whistle All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth My two front teeth See my two front teeth Gee, if I could only have my two front teeth Then I could wish you, “Merry Christmas”

The Gingerbread Man A little lonely boy told his Mom one day, “I sure would like a pal so I can play.” Momma mixed up molasses, sugar and flour, a touch of baking powder and in less than an hour The oven door opened, out the room he ran. The fastest sweetest cookie, the Gingerbread Man. Chorus: Naa naa naa naa boo boo, What ‘cha gonna do do? I can run faster, faster that you. Naa naa naa naa bim bam, catch me if you think you can. You can’t catch me... I’m the Gingerbread Man! Naa naa naa naa naa naa. Out the door, down the lane and over the hill, the sweet smell of cookie followed him still. Until grazin’ in a pasture, passin’ by a cow, mmmmmm, yum yum woo hoo wow! Mmmoo you smell so awfully sweet, I sure would like to have you for a treat.

12 Dawson Creek Mirror’s Carol Book • 2018

Chorus Now the Mom, the boy and cow were chasing him so, yelling stop, stop, wait, wait, please don’t go. In a field around the curve a horse was heard to say, “Stay a bit, I’d like a nip, please don’t go away. You see the horse, the cow, the Mom the boy all wanted to eat that Gingerbread Man who smelled so sweet. Chorus Across the land he ran and ran more joined the race. Try as they would they never could keep up his pace. Rain started sprinkling down from the sky. The cookie was frightened, “Oh no, my my!” “Fear not my friend “ spoke Mr. Pig. “I could never chase you, I’m way too big. Hop on my back and I’ll keep your feet dry.” The Gingerbread Man said he’d give it a try. Slippin’ and sliddin’, pig was too roly poly. “Then sit on my snout, take it slowly.” He did and gulp, gone was he, and so that ends our story, of the Gingerbread Man.

The holly and the ivy, Now both are full well grown Of all the trees that are in the wood, The holly bears the crown. Chorus Oh, the rising of the sun, The running of the deer. The playing of the merry organ, Sweet singing in the choir The holly bears a blossom As white as lily flower; And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ To be our sweet Savior. Chorus

The holly bears a bark As bitter as any gall; And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ For to redeem us all. Chorus

The holly bears a berry As red as any blood; And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ To do poor sinners good. Chorus

The holly and the ivy, When they are both full grown Of all the trees that are in the wood, The holly bears the crown.

Celebrating the Holiday Spirit

Each year, the Dawson Creek and District Hospital Foundation reaches out to the community during the holiday season in an effort to bring a bit of the giving spirit to our local hospital. For the 2018 holiday season, we are happy to announce a welcomed addition to our funding initiative: we now have the ability to support the Rotary Manor and any future care facilities. This change will allow us to help in making sure the best possible care is given to some of our most vulnerable residents. We are reaching out, in hopes of opening your hearts to those residents in our Hospital & Rotary Manor who need just a bit more care in their lives. Our focus this year is to bring the giving spirit to our very busy Hospital & Rotary Manor. The Dawson Creek & District Hospital touches everyone in our service region and truly acts as a hub of health and care within our community. Through our 2018 Lights for Life campaign the Dawson Creek and District Hospital Foundation is working to purchase a new Vein-Viewer for the Hospital as well as multiple Vital Monitors for Rotary Manor. The Vein-Viewer will allow more nurses to be able to give IVs and/or draw blood as well as assist when veins are difficult to find. This state of the art piece gives a visual of the patient’s vein and will allow nurses, doctors, and support staff to offer the highest level of safety and service the patients of our area. The Vital Monitors are an ongoing need within any healthcare facility and by providing additional, updated, units to Rotary Manor they will be able to make sure all residents are promptly attended too with the proper care. We are eager to begin in assisting with the needs of our care facility now and in the future. Please find it in your heart to help the Dawson Creek & District Hospital and Rotary Manor obtain the new equipment which is crucial to patient safety and care. This will directly improve the health care within our local hospital and care facility and in turn the community as a whole.

Winter Wonderland

To face unafraid, The plans that we’ve made, Walking in a winter wonderland.

Sleigh bells ring, are you listening, In the lane, snow is glistening A beautiful sight, We’re happy tonight. Walking in a winter wonderland. Gone away is the bluebird, Here to stay is a new bird He sings a love song, As we go along, Walking in a winter wonderland.

In the meadow we can build a snowman, Then pretend that he is Parson Brown He’ll say: Are you married? We’ll say: No man, But you can do the job When you’re in town. Later on, we’ll conspire, As we dream by the fire

In the meadow we can build a snowman, And pretend that he’s a circus clown We’ll have lots of fun with mister snowman, Until the other kids nock him down. When it snows, ain’t it thrilling, Though your nose gets a chilling We’ll frolic and play, the Eskimo way, Walking in a winter wonderland.

Frosty the Snowman

Frosty the snowman was a jolly happy soul, With a corncob pipe and a button nose And two eyes made out of coal. Frosty the snowman is a fairy tale, they say, He was made of snow but the children Know how he came to life one day. There must have been some magic in that Old silk hat they found. For when they placed it on his head He began to dance around. O, Frosty the snowman Was alive as he could be, And the children say he could laugh And play just the same as you and me. Thumpetty thump thump, Thumpety thump thump, Look at Frosty go. Thumpetty thump thump, Thumpety thump thump, Over the hills of snow. Frosty the snowman knew The sun was hot that day, So he said, “Let’s run and We’ll have some fun Now before I melt away.”

Down to the village, With a broomstick in his hand, Running here and there all Around the square saying, Catch me if you can. He led them down the streets of town Right to the traffic cop. And he only paused a moment when He heard him holler “Stop!” For Frosty the snow man Had to hurry on his way, But he waved goodbye saying, “Don’t you cry, I’ll be back again some day.” Thumpetty thump thump, Thumpety thump thump, Look at Frosty go. Thumpetty thump thump, Thumpety thump thump, Over the hills of snow.

Season’s Greetings Christmas is here, and we hope the season delivers much happiness and good fortune to you and yours! We appreciate the year-round support of good friends like you, and we wish you all the best at Christmas time and throughout the new year.

Baby It’s Cold Outside I really can’t stay - Baby it’s cold outside I’ve got to go away - Baby it’s cold outside This evening has been - Been hoping that you’d drop in So very nice - I’ll hold your hands, they’re just like ice My mother will start to worry - Beautiful, what’s your hurry My father will be pacing the floor - Listen to the fireplace roar So really I’d better scurry - Beautiful, please don’t hurry Well maybe just a half a drink more - Put some music on while I pour

The neighbors might think - Baby, it’s bad out there Say, what’s in this drink - No cabs to be had out there I wish I knew how - Your eyes are like starlight To break the spell - I’ll take your hat, your hair looks swell I ought to say no, no, no, sir - Mind if I move closer At least I’m gonna say that I tried - What’s the sense in hurting my pride? I really can’t stay - Baby don’t hold out Ahh, but it’s cold outside C’mon baby I simply must go - Baby, it’s cold outside The answer is no - Ooh darling, it’s cold outside This welcome has been - I’m lucky that you dropped in

So nice and warm - Look out the window at that storm My sister will be suspicious - Man, your lips look delicious My brother will be there at the door Waves upon a tropical shore My maiden aunt’s mind is vicious - Gosh your lips are delicious Well maybe just a half a drink more Never such a blizzard before I’ve got to go home - Oh, baby, you’ll freeze out there Say, lend me your coat - It’s up to your knees out there You’ve really been grand - I thrill when you touch my hand But don’t you see - How can you do this thing to me? There’s bound to be talk tomorrow Think of my life long sorrow At least there will be plenty implied - If you caught pneumonia and died I really can’t stay - Get over that hold out Ahh, but it’s cold outside Baby it’s cold outside Brr its cold…. It’s cold out there Cant you stay awhile longer baby Well…..I really shouldn’t...alright Make it worth your while baby Ahh, do that again….

What a bright time, it’s the right time To rock the night away Jingle bell time is a swell time To go gliding in a one-horse sleigh Giddy-up jingle horse,

Blue Christmas I’ll have a blue Christmas without you I’ll be so blue thinking about you Decorations of red On a green Christmas tree Won’t be the same If you’re not here with me And when those blue snow flakes start falling And when those blue memories start falling You’ll be doing all right with your Christmas of white But I’ll have a blue, blue, blue, blue Christmas Ooh - Ooh - Ooh - Ooh Decorations of red On a green Christmas tree Oh, won’t be the same If you’re not here with me I’ll have a blue Christmas, that’s certain And when that blue heartache starts hurting You’ll be doing all right With your Christmas of white But I’ll have a blue, blue Christmas

White Christmas

Songwriter: Irving Berlin

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas Just like the ones I used to know Where the treetops glisten and children listen To hear sleigh bells in the snow

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas Just like the ones I used to know Where the treetops glisten and children listen To hear sleigh bells in the snow

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas With every Christmas card I write May your days be merry and bright And may all your Christmases be white

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas With every Christmas card I write May your days be merry and bright And may all your Christmases be white

The First Noel The First Noel, the Angels did say Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay In fields where they lay keeping their sheep On a cold winter’s night that was so deep. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel Born is the King of Israel! They looked up and saw a star Shining in the East beyond them far And to the earth it gave great light And so it continued both day and night. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel Born is the King of Israel! And by the light of that same star Three Wise men came from country far To seek for a King was their intent And to follow the star wherever it went. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel Born is the King of Israel!

This star drew nigh to the northwest O’er Bethlehem it took its rest And there it did both Pause and stay Right o’er the place where Jesus lay. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel Born is the King of Israel! Then entered in those Wise men three Full reverently upon their knee And offered there in His presence Their gold and myrrh and frankincense. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel Born is the King of Israel! Then let us all with one accord Sing praises to our heavenly Lord That hath made Heaven and earth of nought And with his blood mankind has bought. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel Born is the King of Israel!

What Child is this?

What child is this who laid to rest On Mary’s lap is sleeping Whom angels greet with anthems sweet While shepherds watch are keeping This, this is Christ the King Whom shepherds guard and angels sing Haste, haste to bring him laud The babe, the son of Mary Why lies he in such mean estate Where ox and ass are feeding Good Christian fear, for sinners here The silent Word is pleading So bring Him incense, gold, and myrrh Come peasant king to own Him The King of kings, salvation brings Let loving hearts enthrone Him This, this is Christ the King Whom shepherds guard and angels sing Haste, haste to bring him laud The babe, the son of Mary

Away in the Manger Away in a manger, No crib for His bed The little Lord Jesus Laid down His sweet head

The cattle are lowing The poor Baby wakes But little Lord Jesus No crying He makes

Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay Close by me forever And love me I pray

The stars in the bright sky Looked down where He lay The little Lord Jesus Asleep on the hay

I love Thee, Lord Jesus Look down from the sky And stay by my side, ‘Til morning is nigh.

Bless all the dear children In Thy tender care And take us to heaven To live with Thee there
