CHEMICAL NEWS CHINA SLAPS ANTIDUMPING DUTIES ON PYRIDINE FROM INDIA AND JAPAN China's Ministry of Commerce (Mofcom; Beijing) says that China has imposed antidumping duties on imports of pyridine from India and Japan, for five years starting 21 November 2013. An antidumping investigation was launched in September 2012 following complaints from Chinese manufacturers of pyridine, and provisional antidumping duties were imposed on imports of pyridine from India and Japan, starting 28 May 2013. Mofcom, in its final ruling, says that pyridine imports from India and Japan were dumped in the Chinese market, causing substantial damage to the country's market.

CHINA EXTENDS ANTIDUMPING MEASURES ON METHYL ETHYL KETONE FROM JAPAN AND TAIWAN China's Ministry of Commerce (Mofcom; Beijing) says it has extended China's antidumping measures for methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) imported from Japan and Taiwan for a further five years starting 21 November 2013. China originally imposed the antidumping duties on MEK from Japan, Taiwan, and Singapore for five years starting 22 November 2007. Mofcom terminated the antidumping duties against MEK imported from Singapore, effective 22 November 2012. China launched in November 2012, a review of the duties on MEK imported from Japan and Taiwan in response to demands of the domestic industry.

DOW CHEMICAL EXITS DOW KOKAM VENTURE Dow Chemical has sold its majority stake in Dow Kokam (Midland, MI), a maker of lithium-ion battery cells, to MBP Investors, an affiliate of Townsend Ventures (Hunt Valley, MD), a partner in the JV. Dow Kokam designs and manufactures large-format nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) lithium-ion cells and systems for use in the fleet transportation, stationary storage, marine, defense and industrial markets. Dow says it will focus on the materials portion of the battery value chain, not batteries themselves. The deal includes manufacturing assets in Midland, MI, and Lee's Summit, MO. Terms were not disclosed. Dow Kokam's other shareholders include Townsend Ventures affiliate TK Advanced Battery, KA Founders, and Dassault Group. In addition to Dow Kokam, Townsend Ventures also has investments in other battery-related businesses, including Energy Power Systems and AllCell Technologies.
