Course Overview The MRS Advanced Certificate has been developed by MRS and drawing on best practice across the profession, the Advanced Certificate is designed to provide a practical grounding in the principles and techniques which underpin effective research. With over 8,000 members in more than 50 countries, The Market Research Society (MRS) is the world's largest international membership organisation for professional researchers and others engaged or interested in market, social and opinion research Who should study this course: ¡

It provides a solid foundation for understanding research principles with a demanding syllabus that covers all aspects of the research process. Course structure – FULL Programme

The MRS Advanced Certificate is a single-unit qualification, comprising 8 elements which follow the research process from problem definition to reporting on research results. In order to reflect the inter-dependence of the various stages in the research process, the assessment of the qualification follows an integrated approach. All candidates must complete 2 components of assessment: l

A coursework element (the Integrated Assignment, or IA): This 3000 – 3500 assignment requires candidates either to prepare a proposal for a research project, or a critical review of a research project with which they have been involved. Both formats require candidates to integrate knowledge from across the syllabus.

l

A written examination: All questions in the examination draw on at least two elements of the syllabus, and, in order to be successful, candidates must demonstrate that they can integrate knowledge from different elements. In each examination round, a minimum of 80% of syllabus areas will be assessed through the range of questions. " Exam Duration: 2 hrs 30mins.

MRS Tutor Biography Cheryl has worked in the marketing and research field for 15 years and started her own consultancy, Greyson Marketing, in 2007. During this time, she has built up a successful business providing research, communications, events and lecturing to a range of clients including The Marketers Forum, IPC Media, The National Childbirth Trust and BPP Professional Education. This has all been achieved alongside being a full-time Mum! Prior to working for herself, Cheryl was head of marketing and research, EMEA, for the American business magazine, Forbes, promoting advertising to companies and advertising agencies. She was previously Marketing Manager for a leading environmental engineering consultancy, worked for 4 years in advertising marketing for The Economist Newspaper as a global senior marketer and spent 4 years at IPC Media in a similar role. Her experience also includes freelance marketing and communication roles in the not-for-profit sector, regional newspapers, PR and for an international media agency. Cheryl holds the CIM Certificate in Marketing, Advanced Certificate and Post-Graduate Diploma as well as a MA in Marketing from London Metropolitan University. She achieved Chartered status in 2006. She has lectured at Oxford Brookes University, The Marketers Forum and London Metropolitan University. She has taught the CIM Professional Diploma since 2005, specialising in marketing communications, planning and research. Note from your MRS Tutor – ! Cheryl Greyson MA DipM MCIM Chartered Marketer Since introducing the MRS Advanced Certificate to the education programme at The Marketers Forum relatively recently, we have been delighted to see the course s popularity grow so quickly. Our results speak for themselves – we consistently outperform the national average as well as teaching centres which are based at research agencies and taught by staff. We have also gained a higher number of Distinctions than other centres. Unlike delegates at in-house research agency teaching centres who follow a standard brief, our students are encouraged to develop their own research interests for their coursework assignment. This approach, I believe, makes delegates more committed and passionate about the assignment process. Each delegate is supported with the direction of their learning as they develop the framework for their project and receives individual feedback. The benefits of learning the MRS syllabus with TMF are: Every delegate is viewed as an individual, not just a candidate number. We offer a high level of pastoral care from the office staff to tutors. We are used to teaching groups with a diverse range of social and market research experience, from various industry fields and research sectors, and a range of international backgrounds. An average class would be made up of delegates aged from 23 to 50 so appealing to the learning styles of the whole class is something I am used to doing successfully. The levels of experience within a classroom can also vary wildly – from a recent graduate to a planner with 20 years in the business; I enjoy building the confidence and knowledge of junior delegates whilst harnessing the expertise of the senior delegates and pushing them through the syllabus at an accelerated pace and keeping up their interest levels. Classes cover the syllabus in-depth and are extremely practical and fun! Skills are learnt in the classroom that can be immediately applied to the work environment e.g. we design and run a dummy focus group in the classroom with the delegate role-playing typical research participants. The MRS syllabus is demanding in the breadth of knowledge required. I use the skills and experience of the class to bring specific theories to life. We debate the shades of grey in research and I encourage students to come to their own conclusions which will guide the rest of their research career. Feedback is constructive and thorough with a written report and annotated comments. I am always accessible via email if delegates have questions as they develop their coursework or revise for the exam. Our programme is divided into 4 clear sections: Day 1 covers the need for research and research design; Day 2 covers research methodologies; Day 3 covers sampling and analysis; and Day 4 is dedicated to revision and practicing exam past papers.
