What Is Anal Cancer Anal cancer is cancer that affects the anus, with the most common form arising from squamous-cell carcinoma, which is the uncontrolled multiplication of cells of epithelium (thin outer tissue layer). There are other rarer forms though of basal cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma and melanoma. Every year in the UK around 1,000 people are diagnosed with anal cancer, with it being slightly more prevalent in women.

There are some risk factors that can increase the possibility of anal cancer. These include: the HPV (human papilloma virus), anal intercourse, a weakened immune system and smoking. Another contributory factor is age, with most cases found in people in their early 60’s. However, in some cases, the cause of anal cancer remains unknown. There are indicatory signs and symptoms associated with anal cancer, such as: a lump near the anus, rectal bleeding, itching, bloating and a change in bowel habits. Getting these symptoms checked out at the earliest opportunity is important. At the LOC private cancer clinic, the most advanced treatments for anal cancer treatment are available, with experts in this field performing the latest procedures. The LOC can help to simplify the cancer journey for you, and plan the best course of treatment.
