QHS WELCOMES STUDENTS BACK AFTER 2 YEARS OF ODL By Henry Ramirez
Quirino High School (QHS) opened the limited face-to-face (F2F) classes for Senior High School (SHS) on March 1, two years after the schools were shut down from in-person classes due to the rising cases of COVID-19. Mrs. Helen Ingeniero, SHS Focal Person, said the school prepared for the F2F classes by considering that the classrooms, the school facility, and the students were all vaccinated. This is in accordance with the Department of Education (DepEd) Memorandum No. 017, series of 2022, which sets to provide guidelines for schools on the mechanisms in establishing a safe school learning environment as well as ensuring safe operations of schools as part of the transition toward the new normal. ... continue to page 2

In the face of the decision of Department of Education to push for the face-to-face classes next school year, 88% of students in Quirino High School (QHS) prefer Online Distance Learning (ODL) as their learning modality. The QHS Oplan Balik-Eskwela Team (OBET) held a project survey for all students and teachers in April to make requisite adjustments for preferred learning modality in the upcoming school year.

Enrollment is on going! The junior high school department offers specialized curricula such as Special Science, Journalism, Special Education (SpEd), Foreign Language (Mandarin), and Alternative Learning System (ALS). On the other hand, the senior high school department also offers Technical-Vocational Livelihood (TVL) track in addition to the Academic track with strands in Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM), Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), and General Academic Strand (GAS).

“The Science,Technology and Engineering(STE) program envisions highly responsible, morally upright, globally competitive, and work-ready learners from schools offering relevant and innovative Science,Technology and Engineering programs.”Mr. George Emmanuel Martin, Quirino High School head of science department said in the promotional video on the QHS-STE Facebook page. QHS now offers a STE program for incoming grade 7 students. Its main goal is to prepare students for college education, especially those who pursue science,engineering and math courses.
