After the summer holidays, September always brings a new, exciting range of cultural events on Lanzarote, and this year is no exception. You don’t have to look far for a spectacular event, whether it’s a classical concert, traditional Canarian folk music, rock and pop or a wide range of theatre, dance and culinary events. Over the following pages we introduce the best of what’s in store, but new events are announced all the time, so keep your eyes peeled!
History in front of your eyes Lanzarote is an island with centuries of turbulent history, changing culture and ancient traditions, and the best places to learn more about all of this are the island´s several museums. Arrecife´s Historical Museum, for example, is located in the Castillo de San Gabriel – an ancient fort that defended the island against pirates and other invaders.

Inside you´ll find all sorts of interesting exhibits that will help you step into a fascinating past. Elsewhere, the Pirate Museum on the top of the small mountain overlooking Teguise shows visitors how islanders reacted to centuries of raids by pirates from North Africa and even England. There is so much more to choose from: find out about wine production at El Grifo´s Museum, discover Lanzarote´s aviation history at the small but fascinating Airport Museum, learn about the late Omar Sharif´s connection with the island at LagOmar, step back in time at the charming agricultural El Patio Museum in Tiagua, or learn about the island´s inhabitants at the Tanit Museum in San Bartolome.
