New CD for classical pianist Knutsford local, Adrian Lord spoke to the Knutsford Directory this month about his passion for piano and his new release “Sky Blue Piano”. “I started playing the piano and have been composing my own short pieces for as long as I can remember. I studied piano at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and then at Colchester Institute’s School of Music. For many years I had wanted to release an album of my own compositions and in 2016 I realised my ambition with the release of “Journey—Twelve Romances for Piano”. It was recorded at Crear House on the West Coast of Scotland, which had stunning views over to Jura. Since then I have played many concerts in cathedrals across the United Kingdom, and last year I took part in the first ever Knutsford Music Festival, headlining their classical evening. I have recorded a second album of uplifting pieces, “Sky Blue Piano” which will be released on 2nd March 2018. Like

my first album, it will be released as a CD, on iTunes and Spotify, and as a piano sheet music book, so that other pianists can enjoy playing my music. To promote it, there is a local concert in Macclesfield United Reformed Church on Sunday 18th February 3pm, and at Manchester Cathedral on Saturday 2nd June 12.30pm. Both have free admission, and it would be wonderful to meet you there.” Find out more at

All Things Auctioneering with John Crane

- ’Garage Discovery’ made £2,000 at auction They eventually settled in the quiet of the Isle of Man as the light was good there for painting. Willian Hoggatt exhibited widely during his life both in the UK and abroad and his work is held in many national collections. An oil painting of his was in auction in London recently with a guide price of £11,000.00. In our special ‘Fine and Rare’ Auction in a few weeks time we are offering a nice Hoggatt Watercolour which would brighten up any corner of a room ! It has a guide price of £700-£1,000. We have been offered many fine objects for this special auction, so if you also have items of note then we will be very A new working year has started and once again I pleased to hear from you.. pictures, silver and am enjoying the search for good pictures by jewellery in particular. artists of note. In our Auction in December we offered and sold a ‘Garage Discovery’ portrait full of holes and scratched, but it still made just under £2,000.00. The interesting lives and dogged determination of some artists to succeed despite all odds never fails to amaze me. William Hoggatt 1879-1961 was one of them. William Hoggatt was born in Lancaster and won a scholarship to the Total College of Art but decided to be apprenticed to a local stained glass manufacturer whilst continuing his studies at the local art school.

In 1901 he won a scholarship to the very prestigious Academie Julian in Paris; no mean feat. Whilst working on a project at the Tate Gallery in London he met his future wife Dazine Archer whose brother managed the famous pianist Paderewski. Both sets of parents opposed the marriage so they eloped ! A somewhat avant garde course of action in those days !

Our Twitter site @CatoCrane continues to be popular and we use this social media to keep clients informed of lots for future auctions. Shortly I am starting a series of valuation sessions across the country as the search is now on for the very best and rare items for our Great City of Liverpool Auction Rooms. Some of my time will be spent in London where we operate under the name of ‘Bathurst St. James’s’. If you are considering selling items by auction or downsizing I can visit you at home or you y can send images of items to me at @ p So, a busy year ahead; please bring in to our Liverpool or Heswall Wirral Offices good quality objects and a warm welcome will await you.
