University improves pool utility with SwimWall Aquatic industry supplier SR Smith has completed the installation of a SwimWall system at the newly opened aquatic centre at Griffith University’s Gold Coast campus. The new centre consists of a 50-metre swimming pool and an associated fitness orientated facility. The installation of the SwimWall system provided the operational flexibility to achieve the university’s aim of attracting maximum pool usage by students and the local community. The SwimWall is positioned on the pool floor when not in use; and when filled with air, it moves into a vertical position, forming a pool wall that is designed to fit around lane lines. This system effectively doubles the number of lanes, while also offering the flexibility to have some swim lanes 50 metres in length and others 25 metres. It also allows multiple simultaneous uses from learn-to-swim to water polo. SR Smith director Keith Hall says that the SwimWall system is proven Australian-developed technology. “It provides pool operators with the flexibility to create multiple operational zones within their pool, increasing revenue opportunities,” he says. SR Smith has also completed SwimWall installations at Wet’n’Wild Gold Coast and Bond University’s aquatic centre. “The Australian market is looking positively at the technology,” says Hall. Miami Aquatic Centre and St. Hilda’s College, both located on the Gold Coast, have also committed to SwimWall System installations in 2018.

POOL HEATING PANEL

The addition of the aquatic centre at Griffith University’s Gold Coast campus, which was a training facility during the 2018 Commonwealth Games, is part of an expansion of the institution’s Health & Knowledge Precinct. More than 17,000 students currently attend Griffith’s Gold Coast campus. This is expected to rise to more than 25,000 in the next 10 years. Contact: srsmith.com/au

The Eco-therm panel is manufactured by Aquatherm Industries in the US, who have been manufacturing pool heating panels for over 30 years, and its fluted design gives more surface area to achieve one of the highest heat transfer ratings in the Australian market. The strategically placed slots in the webbing prevent moisture build up under the collector and allow pressure relief during high winds. Of all the options available to heat your pool, solar energy is the most cost effective and environmentally friendly method available.
