Testimonials, the true test of Customer Service Nancy and Dave provided a comprehensive team approach to our purchase. They screened and identified properties that met our needs, made sure all the bases were covered, gave solid advice, and made sure all the offer and closing paperwork and related items were done on schedule. Smooth closing and continued advice and support after the sale. They were a pleasure to deal with and we’ll definitely use them again!
Our many thanks to you and your team for helping us sell our home. We were very pleased with the staging advice, the professional photos and we loved the virtual tour. We were also glad to see our house sell above asking price so quickly! Job well done!

TOP TIPS TO
LONG NIGHTS AND CHILLY WEATHER ACTIVATE OUR INSTINCTS TO HUNKER DOWN AND NEST AT HOME. GET INSPIRED TO MAKE YOUR SPACE RELAXED AND INVITING AND MAKE THE MOST OF THE SEASON WITH THESE HELPFUL TIPS AND IDEAS. FOR WARMTH Is there anything better than curling up with a good book and comfy duvet as the snow falls gently outside? For a soft and warm cover, consider one with a down filling. Down is the warmest available; it’s a natural fill that has the ability to reloft and mould itself to your body for continuous warmth and comfort. It’s also great for your bedroom pillow and in a jacket for when you do decide to brave the cold. Avoid buying down fibre, an inferior product that lacks insulation. To make sure you’re getting a quality product, look for the Downmark certification label, a globally recognized and trusted quality certification symbol for Canadian-made down and feather filled products. The label assures items are genuine and have been finished in Canada according to strict standards.
FOR DÉCOR When looking for accent and decorative pieces, look for elements that evoke that cozy log cabin aesthetic. Think rich textures, plush neutrals and wooden accents. When layering a variety of throws, consider down and feather that will make the space feel warm and relaxed. Add some winter whites with flowers and vases, and consider gold accents for a funky pop of colour that’s trendy and fresh.
FOR LIGHTING Fight the winter blues with plenty of lamps and candles. Create a comforting ambiance with a mix of overhead, floor and task lighting, which also gives you the flexibility to find the perfect brightness. Candles can add both warmth and light, giving your home a calm and lived-in feeling. Choose scented candles with your favourite aromas to remind you of yummy sweet treats or take you back to sunny summer day. Curious about quality down and feather products? s told by the famous self-help series, “Chicken Soup for the Soul,” chicken soup is not just great for your body, but it is a remedy for your mind as well. Whether to recover from a nasty cold, an emotional "moment", or simply a miserable winter day, there is no misery that a bowl of chicken soup can’t fix, or at least make a little warmer. I was raised with a similar idea; that chicken soup is the ‘Jewish penicillin.’ I’m sure other culture’s and their respective chicken soups have the same belief, and for a good reason. Generally speaking, chicken soup is wonderful for you. The warm broth fills your stomach, healing sore throats along the way. Nutrient-rich ingredients such as poached chicken and veggies give you energy, while the savoury flavour ignites your appetite. Some might say that this passed-down version of chicken soup is just perfect. While I don’t completely disagree, there are a few additions that can elevate the healing properties of this classic dish. By making it with ginger, turmeric and mushrooms, chicken soup can become a truly a powerful medicine for your gut and overall health. The combination of these superfoods makes chicken soup an extremely effective medicine for the whole digestive tract. If you are suffering from inflammation in the gut, or simply need to keep an eye on symptoms, this recipe should be your go-to.
Can be frozen without the noodles or green onions. Serves 4-6
WITH GINGER, TURMERIC AND SOBA
STEP ONE: Place the shitake mushrooms in 1 1/2 cups of boiling water, let them soak while you prepare the rest of the ingredients.
• 12 dried shitake mushrooms (about 3/4 oz)
STEP TWO: Rinse and dry the chicken thighs. STEP THREE: Heat the oil in a medium size soup pot over med-low heat. When the oil is hot, add the chicken and cover the pot. Cook for 10 minutes, turning once or twice. The object is to steam the chicken not to brown it; you want to get rid of the pink colour. STEP FOUR: In the meantime, strain the mushrooms, reserve the liquid and slice the mushrooms into thin slices (getting rid of the woody stems). STEP FIVE: Stir in the leeks, ginger, turmeric and sliced mushrooms to the soup pot with the chicken. Cover the pot and cook until the leeks begin to soften, about 5 minutes.
• 5 bone-in chicken thighs, skin and fat removed • 2 tsp grape seed or avocado oil • 1 large leek (white and light green parts only), sliced into half moons and washed • 3 tbs minced fresh ginger • 1 tbsp minced fresh turmeric • 4 cups chicken stock • 3 cups water • 2 tbsp coconut aminos • 1 tbs apple cider vinegar • Sea salt and pepper to taste • 1 250 gram package of 100% soba noodles, I like King Soba brand • 2 green onions, chopped into rounds (for garnish)
STEP SIX: Add the bone broth, water, mushroom liquid, coconut aminos, and apple cider vinegar. Bring to a vigorous simmer over high heat. Lower the heat, maintain a gentle simmer and cook uncovered for 45 minutes. The chicken should be very tender and falling off the bone. Remove the chicken and set it aside. STEP SEVEN: In the meantime, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the noodles according to package directions, rinse in cold water, set aside. STEP EIGHT: Remove the chicken meat from the bones, chop it up and put it back in the pot with the soup. Taste for salt and pepper. STEP NINE: Stir the noodles into the soup. Serve in bowls with green onions sprinkled on top. ◆

Can you MIX METAL FINISHES
IN YOUR HOME? MIXING METAL FINISHES IS THE MOST ASKED ABOUT TREND TODAY. IT’S BIGGER THAN PAINTING WOOD TRIM OR CABINETS AND MORE CONTROVERSIAL THAN GETTING RID OF YOUR BATHTUB. PEOPLE WANT TO KNOW, “CAN YOU MIX METAL FINISHES IN YOUR HOME?” ABOVE Delta Faucet Canada’s, Cassidy™ is featured with stainless steel apron sink and glass and silver knobs on the cabinetry,
If history is any indication we’re good to go. We’ve used a mix of metal finishes in everything from our jewelry to our wardrobe and our fixtures for years. Thankfully, the movement is getting lots of support from manufacturers who are making it easier to find what we want for our homes.
THE BRONZE AGE STARTED IT ALL But let’s take a leap back in time to see where it all began. The Bronze age, around 3000BC was the dawn of urban civilization. For decorative and functional purposes, metal arts were crafted from the “ores of the earth,” including bronze, gold, tin, lead, silver, copper and iron, and metal alloys such as aluminum. The art of transforming raw metals into beautiful and useful items continued to evolve through time, making advancements during the Italian Renaissance through the Industrial Age, and it continues today. After centuries of refinement, metals can be processed to be as thin and fine as a hair or as large as a bus.
PERMISSION GR ANTED TO MIX METALS Most people love the sparkle and glow that metal finishes provide. But if you need a formal invitation to use a mix in your room decor, kitchen or bathroom, here it is. I hereby grant you permission to add more than one metal into your décor. It is no longer considered taboo, embrace the change and please feel free to add another metal finish to the matching polished brass faucets and towel bars. Today, faucets and taps are not just hardware items that add function to your plumbing needs, they are a graphic component to your interior design. They can set the tone and help define your personal design style. Companies like Delta Faucet Canada continue to develop multiple styles and finishes to their lines because it allows consumers to further personalize their homes.
MIXING METALS, WHERE DO YOU START AND STOP? I like to think that there are no rules, but if you want some pointers, here’s what I recommend. All metals go together as long as you repeat it as an element throughout the room. For instance, if you have a warm black stainless faucet, add cool polished nickel
or chrome door handles on your cabinets and repeat the black stainless in your towel bars. If you’re combining metals in the shower, repeat that combination at the sink. Repetition means it’s purposeful, not a mistake. If in doubt, use matte black or rubbed bronze as a bridge in your décor to balance metals like gold and silver. Matte black helps by grounding the scheme and the contrast enhances the metals you are using. Coloured metals like champagne bronze, gold, and brushed nickel are warm metals and look great with black. If you want to add warmth to white add warm metals. If you have a lot of grey, add gold. Anything grey can be lifted in energy by adding a warm metal. Mixing metals isn’t new but it may be to you. The bottom line is you should surround yourself in what you love. If you love multiple metal finishes, find ways to incorporate them into your home. It’s all about feeling happy where you live. ◆
ABOVE Black stainless is emerging as the next great stainless finish. Look for it in appliances, too. RIGHT Sleek and modern, Delta Faucet Canada Trinsic™ in Champagne Bronze. Here it works well with white quartz countertop and sink. Looks great with the stone backsplash, too!

EVERYONE WILL LOVE CHOOSING ART FOR THE HOME IS, WELL, AN ART. AS AN INTERIOR STYLIST, HERE ARE SOME TRIED AND TRUE METHODS TO SATISFY A RANGE OF TASTES, ALL UNDER THE SAME ROOF. STEP ONE: Stand back and gauge your surroundings. A large space with high ceilings is best suited to two options: one huge artwork, or a collection of smaller ones. If opting for a gallery wall, choose pieces with something in common: matching frames, or an accent colour. STEP T WO: Consider what will share the space. When mounting a canvas over a fireplace, pick something that echoes the scale of the firebox. If the art will hang over a piece of furniture like a sofa, your canvas should be about 75% of the width of the furnishing. This brings balance to space. STEP THREE: Your art's subject matter is where people can get in trouble. In common areas, opt for neutral pieces. This means nudes; no religious or politically themed pieces; no family photos. STEP FOUR: As a designer, I use colour to make an impact in my designed spaces. Colour repetition is a powerful way to create a cohesive look. Choose a piece that you love, and let its colours inspire your paint, upholstery, pillows, rugs, and other decor elements. This sends a message that the artwork belongs to the room. STEP FIVE: Last but not least, practice restraint. Don’t fill every wall. Negative space gives the eye a place to rest, is calming, and makes the art more impactful.
Art has a way of increasing anticipation, inspiring interest, and bringing you back for more. Choose carefully and follow these tips, and your art with be a cherished part of your home, everyday. ◆ RED BARRINUEVO, Principal Designer at Redesign4More. Servicing clients in Toronto and the GTA.
