A Warm Welcome I am delighted to welcome you to The Hampshire School Chelsea, where I believe our children experience an exceptional learning journey in our nurturing and supportive ethos which celebrates children’s development, and lays the foundations for dreams and ambitions to be fulfilled. Founded in 1928 by the actress, June Hampshire, the school motto ‘Alte Spectemus’ (Aim High), reflects our commitment to high aspirations where academic excellence and personal well‑being are valued. We are a reflective learning community in which all learners are respected and supported to strive to achieve their best. Our children are inquisitive, each with their own unique abilities, interests and aspirations. These aspects are developed by our academic curriculum which is broad, rigorous, and challenges pupils to search for knowledge, learn new skills and develop a growing awareness of their capabilities. A strong sense of belonging builds confidence and respect through high expectations academically, socially, and emotionally; our extensive array of extra-curricular clubs and activities enrich our wraparound care programme. Across the school, from age 3–13, our Growth Mindset approach to learning encourages every pupil to build the confidence to succeed. Furthermore, the School’s ‘Five Core Values’ of resilience, respect, responsibility, community and

excellence provide the scaffolding for our children to develop these key life skills and strive for personal fulfilment and high standards. We work in partnership with our parents to fulfil the School’s ambitious aims whilst meeting their high expectations. The academic preparation for 11+ and 13+ is all embracing; the pupils are given our absolute support in finding and securing places at senior schools perfectly suited to their talents, interests and aspirations. I invite you to visit The Hampshire School Chelsea in order to fully appreciate the School’s inclusive educational provision, and to discuss the important next steps in your child’s education. The Hampshire School Chelsea is a very special place. A warm welcome awaits!

The Perfect Setting Housed in the Old Chelsea Library just off of King’s Road, The Hampshire School Chelsea boasts outstanding facilities that blend modernity with the historic, which includes an enviable outdoor playground. We have a holistic approach to the learning and development of each individual and, as a result, class sizes are tailored to ensure children get further time, care and attention from their class teacher. The learning is delivered by highly qualified staff through a combination of focused teaching, experimentation and play. Our Pre-School children, incorporating the Pre‑Nursery, Nursery and Reception classes, have their own section of the school that provides a ‘home away from home’ learning environment. This setting allows the children to engage in purposeful play and enriching experiences, where they practise the key skills they have learnt.

They benefit from being fully integrated in the whole school community, with our oldest children visiting to read and play with them through our buddy system. Children in Reception make the smooth transition to Year 1 to continue their learning journey in our pre-preparatory setting and beyond. It is the perfect learning environment to nurture and inspire every pupil to acquire the confidence to try their best and develop a lifelong love of learning. The relationship between home and school is highly valued, and we welcome parent visits to ensure they are well informed of their child’s progress and development.

The children can blossom in all areas which helps them learn and progress whilst enhancing their emotional intelligence. PARENT 4

The Hampshire School Chelsea’s Five Core Values Develop resilience. Create an atmosphere of mutual respect. Encourage responsibility in every pupil. Value and develop strong partnerships in our community. Inspire a love of learning so that pupils strive for excellence.

Pre-School First steps Children can join Pre-School in the term they turn three years old. Our youngest learners have a broad range of opportunities to refine their skills and have access to a variety of resources that will enrich their play. Through an inclusive curriculum, they are encouraged to develop their own character and personality by being introduced to the thrill of learning in a warm and nurturing family environment. The children at The Hampshire School Chelsea develop outstanding social, language, aesthetic and academic skills through play, music, drama, art and physical education. They are assessed through observation of this learning and through regular discussion with the child. As children progress, they learn numeracy and literacy concepts, and explore creative and world topics.

The curriculum is further enhanced by weekly lessons in French, physical education, swimming, ICT, ballet, music, art and library sessions with our specialist teachers. In addition, the children enjoy participating in educational school trips and our unique Forest School; an outdoor learning environment that fosters social and communication skills, the ability to work in groups effectively, high self‑esteem, resilience and confidence. We ensure that every child receives individual attention, feels supported to learn, make friends and aim high. Our Pre‑School’ curriculum follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) guidelines which is an excellent preparation for Year 1.

Our son has been at the school for five years since joining Early Years. It has been an amazing experience for him, and we really appreciate the holistic approach to learning. PARENT 11

Pre-Preparatory Year 1 to 4 In the Pre-Preparatory, children at The Hampshire School Chelsea build on their all-round skillset with our personalised curriculum. Core skills in communication, reading, writing and mathematics are developed by stage not age thus laying firm foundations for future successful learning. Specialist teachers bring their specific subject knowledge into the classroom and enthuse children with a passion for sport, art, music, drama, French, ICT and so much more. Lessons include hands-on and enquiry-based learning where children are encouraged to engage passionately in class as they master new and more complex concepts.

The teachers and staffs’ support, coupled with the rich and nurturing environment of the school, has made the transition from Early Years to Pre-Preparatory seamless. PARENT 12

Preparatory Year 5 to 8 As children progress through to the Preparatory School, they develop an extensive range of learning skills, acquire knowledge in specialist subject areas and have a wealth of opportunities to discover where their particular talents lie. From Year 5, all of the children’s lessons are delivered by specialist teachers specifically targeting outstanding results at 11+ and 13+. Our teaching methods promote high academic standards as well as the excitement and enjoyment of learning. All children are assessed, supported and encouraged according to their particular talents and learning needs, ensuring a unique educational journey through the School.

The strong pastoral care system, membership of the House System and School Development Groups, help the pupils develop their understanding of the wider community and their future world.

The Hampshire School’s ethos of kindness, a courteous and a friendly atmosphere jumps out at you as soon as you walk into the building, be it a child or a teacher, a member of staff or even the parents of the students here that will smile and greet you warmly. PARENT QUOTE 15
