THE ENTERTAINMENT VENUE Y LLEOLIAD AR GYFER ADLONIANT

SUMMER 2018 HAF 2018 01686 614 555 | THEHAFREN.CO.UK Y DRENEWYDD NEWTOWN

CROESOWELCOME Gobeithiwn yn fawr ein bod wedi gweld cefn yr eira a’r tywydd garw ‘ma. Er ei fod yn dlws iawn mae’n creu problemau i ni yn y theatr wrth gynnal ein sioeau. Felly hoffem ymddiheuro i rheina ohonoch a oedd wedi archebu tocynnau i’r sioeau fe wnaethom ganslo oherwydd yr eira. Gyda thristwch mawr fe gollwyd ffrind arbennig ar ddechrau mis Mawrth sef y diddanwr amryddawn Ken Dodd. Fu Ken yn perfformio ar ein llwyfan ni droeon ac roedden ni gyd yn ei hoffi yn fawr fel person ac am ei dalent doniol. Unrhywun a wnaeth eistedd drwy un o’i sioeau chwe awr fyddwch yn siwr o gofio’r profiad hynny am byth. Roedd Ken wedi gobeithio perfformio yma ar Fawrth yr 2il ond fe aeth yn wael iawn ac fe ddefnyddiodd y dyddiad yna i briodi ei diddweddi Anne. Fe fydd colled mawr ar ei ôl. Rydyn ni’n edrych ymlaen yn fawr at groesawu wynebau newydd i’n llwyfan y tymor yma – fe fydd Lesley Garrett yn ymgymryd â’r rôl Lady Rhondda yn Rhondda Rips It Up! gan y Welsh National Opera, edrychwch ar ein gwefan am fwy o wybodaeth. Rydyn ni hefyd yn cynnl gweithdai gwyliau – y cyfle perffaith i blant ddatblygu eu sgiliau dawnsio, drama a chanu. Mae hi mor braf cael cyd-weithio gyda Gwyn Emberton, Ballet Cymru a Claire Evans o Hafren Rising Stars.

We really hope that we have finally seen the back of the snowy weather. Whilst it is beautiful to look at it does provide challenges when operating theatre shows. Our sincere apologies to customers who booked for events that then had to be cancelled due to the travel difficulties. With sadness, a long-time friend and National Treasure Ken Dodd passed away at the beginning of March. Ken has performed many times on our stage and he was loved by all of us for his talent, wit and not least, stamina! Anyone who has sat and laughed through a six hour performance will remember the experience forever. Ken was due to perform here on the 2nd March, but was already very poorly and used that date to marry his long term partner Anne. He will be sadly missed. We look forward to welcoming new faces to our stage – the irrepressible Lesley Garrett will be taking on the role of Suffragette “Lady Rhondda” in Welsh National Opera’s Rhondda Rips It Up! Please check out the preview on our website and social media pages for a sensational early look. We’re also operating Summer Holiday residencies – the perfect opportunity for children to improve their existing dance, drama and singing skills, or indeed learn a new skill. It’s wonderful to be working with Gwyn Emberton, Ballet Cymru and Claire Evans from Hafren Rising Stars again.

Croeswn ein bysedd am dywydd braf yn ystod y misoedd nesaf er mwyn rhoi mwy o reswm i chi wenu wrth ddod atom i wylio ein digwyddiadau!

Let’s all hope for some sunshine over the coming months. We want to put an even bigger smile on your faces when you come to visit us for one of our events!

Diolch yn fawr i chi am eich cefnogaeth parhaus.

Thank you all for your valuable continued support.

We believe that our children and young people should have the chance to be inspired and excited by the best that the arts in Wales has to offer. So as part of a major new Welsh Government/Arts Council of Wales project, ACW have established a fund to provide children and young people with opportunities to engage with arts and cultural activities as a routine part of their wider learning experience.

Credwn y dylai fod gan ein plant a’n pobl ifainc y cyfle i gael eu hysbrydoli a’u cyffroi gan y celfyddydau gorau yng Nghymru. Yn rhan felly o brosiect mawr newydd gan Lywodraeth Cymru/Cyngor Celfyddydau Cymru, sefydlwyd CCC gronfa i roi’r cyfleoedd hynny i’n plant a’n pobl ifainc i ymgysylltu â gweithgareddau celfyddydol a diwylliannol yn rhan arferol o’u profiad dysgu ehangach.

Schools are able to apply for small one-off grants of up to £1,000. This can be used to fund visits to high-quality arts events in theatres, arts centres and other venues within Wales.

Gall ysgolion ymgeisio am grantiau untro bychain hyd at £1,000. Gellir eu defnyddio i dalu am ymweliadau i ddigwyddiadau celfyddydol o safon mewn theatrau, canolfannau celfyddydol a lleoliadau eraill o fewn Cymru.

ROB DUNSFORD & NEVE SPENCER MÖLLER Rob Dunsford is a singer/songwriter/guitarist living near Montgomery. Known for his warm voice and for mixing pathos with wry humour in his songwriting, he’s been gigging since 2005 and appeared on several albums - including an acoustic album curated by The Wonder Stuff’s Miles Hunt and a tribute album to the great Townes Van Zandt alongside The Magic Numbers, Shane MacGowan of the Pogues, Stan Ridgway and Devon Sproule. Neve is a Welshpool native and has gigged locally, garnering great reviews. In December 2017 she performed at Under The Bridge, Chelsea Football Club, to a packed-out audience. The maturity and expression in her voice and songwriting belies her youth and she cites David Gray, Van Morrison, Ray Lamontagne and Keane as vocal influences, however lyrically she is influenced by personal experiences and the likes of Joni Mitchell, Bon Iver and The Waterboys. As well as performing solo, together Neve and Rob perform some of their original songs as well as covering various classics from Cindy Lauper to Johnny Cash in their own, stripped-down acoustic style. Sir Chris was the first mountaineer on the lecture circuit and, this autumn, he will present his “Life & Times” in an audio visual account, covering his sixty years spent in the mountains. BAR ORIEL GALLERY BAR

ARTS INTERNATIONAL GROUP (AIG) End of May - End of July 2018 AIG is a confederation of artists, working in a variety of media, who originate from different cultures and wish to explore cultural diversity and promote international understanding through practising their art together and exhibiting together in their different countries. They hope to learn from each other through this, and to hold workshops which will extend their skills to a wider public. Through working together, the artists believe that their art communicates without the need for language, and that their exhibitions eliminate national borders. Directed by Svetlana Elantseva, who is based in Shrewsbury in Shropshire, UK, they comprise artists from Britain, Russia, USA, Bulgaria, Turkey, Slovenia, Italy and Germany. www.artinternationalgallery.co.uk

ANNA-LISA COLEMAN Early September End of November 2018 Anna-Lisa Coleman was born in North London in 1971. At 16 years she attended Barnet Art College, Southgate College and later graduated from Middlesex University with a BA Honours Degree in 1995. Whilst teaching at Herefordshire College of Arts she also graduated with a PGCE from University of Wales Newport. Hills, cloudscapes and night skies recur in her paintings and more recently, the figure has begun to dominate in her ongoing series of ‘Goddesses’. Her paintings are held in private collections all over the world and she exhibits regularly throughout mid Wales. A keen marathon runner in the famously tough endurance ‘Man V Horse’ held on her home turf, you will most likely find her amidst the breathtakingly scenic forestry trails above Llanwrtyd Wells. https://www.facebook.com/Paintings-toGladden-the-Heart-337229143045439

Mewn achos o’r fath, os bydd tocynnau’n cael eu dychwelyd i’r swyddfa docynnau, gwnawn bob ymdrech i’w hail-werthu i gwsmeriaid eraill. Ni ellir sicrhau hyn gan y bydd tocynnau’r theatr yn cael eu gwerthu’n gyntaf. Os bydd y theatr yn llwyddo i ail-werthu’r tocynnau, bydd y swyddfa docynnau’n trefnu credyd i chi am werth y tocynnau, i chi ei ddefnyddio wrth archebu unrhyw docynnau yn y dyfodol. Er mwyn manteisio ar yr egwyl, awgrymwn eich bod yn archebu eich diodydd ymlaen llaw, gan y gall y bar fod yn brysur dros ben yn ystod yr egwyl. Mae siop goffi’r theatr a’r bwth hufen iâ hefyd ar agor yn ystod perfformiadau’r hwyr. LLOGI’R THEATR Mae awditoriwm y theatr a chyfleusterau eraill ar gael ar gyfer cynadleddau, cyfarfodydd busnes ac achlysuron arbennig.
