CROESOWELCOME WE ARE REACHING MORE CYRRHAEDDWN MWY PEOPLE THAN EVER IN O FOBL YN EIN HARDAL NAG ERIOED OR BLAEN... OUR CATCHMENT... Hwn yw ein rhaglen prysuraf eto!! Darllenwch ymlaen, ceir llawer o ddewis yma o fiwsic clasurol i feicio mynydd.....

It’s our busiest Autumn programme ever!! Check inside to see the huge range of events from Classical Music to Mountain Biking.....

We continue with our popular programming strands of Movie Matinees and Acoustica music evenings. My thanks to all of you who have supported them and are bringing your friends and growing our audiences.

Cyrrhaeddwn mwy o fobl yn ein hardal nag erioed or blaen. O Hydref 2016 hyd at Haf 2017 croesawyd 26,000 cwsmer drwy ein drysau, galluogi 3,000 o blant ysgol i fwynhau addysg geradigol a thorrwyd y record ar gyfer presenoldeb mewn wythnos o 3,300 ar gyfer cynhyrchiad ‘The Birmimgham Stage Company’ o ‘Gangsta Granny. Rydym yn falch iawn o gefnogi cwmnioedd lleol megis ‘Newtown Musical Theatre Company’, ‘Adiict Fance’, ‘Montgomeryshire Music Festival’, Yr Urdd, Ffermwyr Ifanc Maldwyn, Yshol Theatr Maldwyn, ‘Wales One Act Play Festival’, ‘Footloose Dance’, a Menter Maldwyn.

We are reaching more people than ever in our catchment and beyond. In our Autumn 2016 – Summer 2017 year we have welcomed over 26,000 customers, enabled over 3,000 school children to receive creative education and our Christmas production by The Birmingham Stage Company of Gangsta Granny broke our records for attendance within a week at over 3,300! All while supporting our local companies such as Newtown Musical Theatre Company, Addict Dance, Montgomeryshire Music Festival, Urdd, Montgomeryshire Young Farmers, Ysgol Theatr Maldwyn, Wales One Act Play Festival, Footloose Dance and Menter Maldwyn.

Gyda’r torriadau enfawr i’n cyllid cyhoeddus, ni fyddwn yn gallu cyflwyno ein rhaglenni cyfoes a safonol ym Maldwyn oni bai am eich cefnogaeth parhaus chi. Rydym yn gwerthfawrogi eich cwsmeriaeth ac yn falch iawn bod ein rhaglenni ni yn plesio mor gymaint ohonoch chi.

With the large public funding reductions, without your continued increased support we would not be able to bring such a diverse and quality programme to Montgomeryshire. We value your custom and are pleased that our programme is appealing to so many of you.

Edrychwn ymlaen i’ch croesawu yn ôl gyda’ch teulu a’ch ffrindiau yn y dyfodol agos.

We look forward to welcoming you and your friends in the near future.

We believe that our children and young people should have the chance to be inspired and excited by the best that the arts in Wales has to offer. So as part of a major new Welsh Government/Arts Council of Wales project, ACW have established a fund to provide children and young people with opportunities to engage with arts and cultural activities as a routine part of their wider learning experience.

Credwn y dylai fod gan ein plant a’n pobl ifainc y cyfle i gael eu hysbrydoli a’u cyffroi gan y celfyddydau gorau yng Nghymru. Yn rhan felly o brosiect mawr newydd gan Lywodraeth Cymru/Cyngor Celfyddydau Cymru, sefydlwyd CCC gronfa i roi’r cyfleoedd hynny i’n plant a’n pobl ifainc i ymgysylltu â gweithgareddau celfyddydol a diwylliannol yn rhan arferol o’u profiad dysgu ehangach.

Schools are able to apply for small one-off grants of up to £1,000. This can be used to fund visits to high-quality arts events in theatres, arts centres and other venues within Wales.

Gall ysgolion ymgeisio am grantiau untro bychain hyd at £1,000. Gellir eu defnyddio i dalu am ymweliadau i ddigwyddiadau celfyddydol o safon mewn theatrau, canolfannau celfyddydol a lleoliadau eraill o fewn Cymru.

DELIRIUM

MEDI SEPTEMBER

a film by Gareth Jones

Amidst the dreaming spires of a British university, an international composer struggles to seal his reputation with a modern Requiem, only to find it raises more ghosts than it lays to rest. Torn between the conflicting demands of art and academia, he neglects his hypochondriac wife and teenage kids, turning upside down the institution he is meant to rescue. But a time-bomb is ticking in the college kitchens, in the form of an enigmatic young cellist who remembers more about his past than he does. “Delirium” features an acting tour de force by writer/director Gareth Jones and a specially commissioned Requiem by producer/composer Fiona Howe. Shot at the historic Founder’s Building at Royal Holloway, University of London, this is an atmospheric study of the overheated musical life within cloistered walls, a moving story of how music transcends infidelity and attains grandeur. Official Selection, 39th Moscow International Film Festival, 2017 (World Première). Ffilm yw hon sy’n son am sut mae cerddoriaeth yn mynd yn groes i anffyddlondeb ac yn cyflawni dyled. OFF THE KERB PRODUCTIONS PRESENTS Star of BBC Radio 4’s NEWS QUIZ, I’M SORRY I HAVEN’T A CLUE and JEREMY HARDY SPEAKS TO THE NATION

‘In an ideal world, Jeremy Hardy would be extremely famous, but an ideal world would leave him without most of his best material.’ THE GUARDIAN

‘A comic genius.’ SANDI TOKSVIG

LIVE AUTUMN 2017

Jeremy Hardy is in his 4th decade as a stand-up this year. That’s a more dramatic way of saying he started 33 years ago and, without a lottery win, probably has at least another 33 years to go. In 2014, the tenth series of Jeremy Hardy Speaks to the Nation was broadcast on Radio 4. He is also well known for his appearances on The News Quiz and I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue. Indeed, Alan Bennett recently said he likes him “but he’s only on the radio”. However, Jeremy isn’t only on the radio, his television credits include Jack Dee’s Election Helpdesk (BBC2), QI (BBC1), Mock The Week (BBC2), Grumpy Old Men (BBC1), Back In The Day (BBC2), Not Tonight With John Sergeant (BBC2). He is also on the road all year round and has never stopped doing live shows since 1984. Mae Jeremy Hardy ar daith unwaith eto gyda’i sioe gomedi newydd, mi fydd hi’n noson i’w chofio. TOMMY MILLS I was born in Glasgow and was one of seven children who loved to sing, dance and listen to music at every opportunity. I loved singer song writers most, and was greatly influenced by Paul Simon, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell as well as the Beatles, the Beach Boys and many more. I moved to Hereford in the mid seventies and became a Bass player in a band by default and found myself playing with the likes of James Honeyman Scott of Pretenders fame and many more classy musicians. Nowadays, I spend time writing my own tunes, but still perform a variety of great classics. Noson Acwstica o gerddoriaeth gan Tommy Mills, dewch i fwynhau gwledd o gerddoriaeth.

CERI RIDGE TRADING CO. OLD TIME AMERICANA

It’s not often a modern twist is put on old time tunes with success, Ceri Ridge Trading Company have achieved this with style and panache in their eponymously titled debut album Ceri Ridge Trading Company. Based in a beautiful rural area of Mid Wales from which they take their name, the four piece use traditional acoustic instruments to create a simple yet expressive soundscape that appeals on many levels. It’s easy to hear influences, but difficult to pinpoint a genre. With Linda Rowe, Paul Cashmore, Chris Brown and Jack Rowe together as CRTC, they perform across the UK, recently supporting Martin Simpson on part of his UK tour. Tonight CRTC are debuting their album which will be available to buy after the performance.

“CRTC are honest, unfettered musicians who have produced a stripped back, down to earth sound which is traditional enough to please anyone…and yet have still found room to put their own distinctive brand on”. TH E E AS T POINTERS The East Pointers are three young men from Canada whose talent and penchant for traditional Celtic tunes of decades past greatly belie their respective ages. Formed in 2014, each member of The East Pointers - banjoist/vocalist/step-dancer Koady Chaisson, fiddle player/vocalist Tim Chaisson, and guitarist/vocalist Jake Charron - is an accomplished musician in his own right, and their union produces a blend of Celtic tunes, songs and step-dances moulded into something uniquely Canadian through a history which goes back generations. In 2015 they crossed the Atlantic for their first UK tour. Their debut album ‘Secret Victory’ was released in October 2015 and featured 10 original tracks, all penned by Tim, Koady and Jake. The album received 4* reviews from Radio 2, The Irish Post and Maverick Magazine and more, with Maverick hailing them as the band who ‘have arrived to modernize, revolutionise and change perceptions about Celtic, folk, bluegrass and jigs in one fell swoop.’ 2017 opened with the news that The East Pointers were nominated for Roots Album of the Year in the JUNO Awards, Canada’s biggest music awards. They won! Grŵp o dri llanc ifanc yw’r rhain o Ganada sy’n ymddiddori mewn cerddoriaeth Celtaidd. Dewch i fwynhau noson yn eu cwmni.

MIDWALESOPERA

OPERA CANOLBARTH CYMRU

MUSIC DIRECTOR: JONATHAN LYNESS | DIRECTOR/DESIGNER: RICHARD STUDER Experience opera like never before as MWO ‘Small-Stages’ presents its first ever micro-chamber performances with a brand new version of this hilarious one-act comedy classic. Composed in 1967 and based on Anton Chekhov’s play of the same name, The Bear tells the tale of the widow, Mme Popova, interrupted from her constant mourning by the arrival of the rough-hewn debt collector Smirnov (the “bear” of the title). Passions run high and their sparring culminates in a duel – and an unexpected romance. Full of entertainment, comedy, parody and great tunes, this intimate new production of The Bear, featuring just three singers and five musicians, is a brilliant introduction for audiences new to opera. Sung in English. After the interval join us for Tatyana’s Party Pieces, a light hearted take on the birthday party scene from Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin and a taster of MWO’s Spring 2018 Main Stage tour. These performances are part of Wales’ R17 commemorations for the 100th anniversary of the Russian Revolution and are performed by arrangement with Oxford University Press. KING LEAR

Re-told by Debs Newbold Tell me my daughters...which of you shall we say doth love us most? Dark and challenging, epic and shocking, human and uplifting. In this explosive retelling of the legend of Lear, King of the Britons, Debs Newbold channels her love of Shakespeare’s language to whip up a great storm that will snatch you from your seat and send you hurtling into its bloody centre. Created for a sell-out show at The Hay Festival, toured internationally and performed to acclaim at Shakespeare’s Globe, this is a storytelling event you cannot miss. Debs is one of the UK’s most acclaimed Performance Storytellers, regularly playing venues such as the Royal Opera House, Southbank Centre and Shakespeare’s Globe, as well as touring internationally. Twice voted one of the top five acts at the Towersey Festival (the only Spoken Word Artist in its fifty-year history ever to achieve this), Storyteller for Shakespeare’s Globe, Associate Artist at the English Folk Dance and Song Society, double nominee at the inaugural British Awards for Storytelling Excellence, Debs is a force of nature, a teller not to be missed. UKULELE ORCHESTRA OF GREAT BRITAIN HERESY II HERITAGE TOUR 2017 “Iconoclastic. Unabashed genre crashing antics. Nothing is spoof proof.” SUNDAY TIMES George Hinchliffe’s Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain has become a global sensation and nothing short of a UK national treasure. ‘Heresy II Heritage’, their new tour, charts the Uke’s rise from curiosity to virtuosity, from village hall to the Royal Albert Hall. They have performed for the British Royal Family, the BBC Proms, Sydney Opera House and Carnegie Hall, but heretics they remain, poking fun at the cultural elite, defying you to believe their own hype, bemused by all the hot air. On an ongoing “hand-luggage only” world tour, the Ukes provide pure entertainment, dead-pan British humour and irresistible foot-tapping music. They are masters of the unexpected, whether re-imagining folk songs, twisting classical music favourites, uncovering quirky versions of rock covers, or playing the performers’ own all-original compositions. While these monsters prosper, children endure a cold and loveless life. But their unhappy world is transformed when Sleary’s circus comes to town…. From the company who brought you Aberystwyth Mon Amour, Lighthouse brings its unique theatrical style to this compelling tale of cold hearts and blazing humanity. MID WALES

RALLY FORUM

The Mid Wales Rally Forum has been running since 2004. It was the idea of the World Rally Champion co driver, Phil Mills, fellow top Welsh co driver, Howard Davies and local garage owner John Whittall Williams. The idea was to raise money for local charities to take advantage of Phil’s world championship. They brought on board Howard Watkins from Rally Marketing and Nigel Williams to help put the idea into action. Theatre Clera was chosen in Welshpool, guests from the rally world were invited and a sell-out crowd were entertained to an evening of chat and laughter, all under the ‘guidance’ of Howard Davies! £6000 was raised on the night and donated to Welsh Air Ambulance. The event was such a success that the forum has become a fixture on the rallying calendar, with tickets in great demand. It has attracted some of the world’s top rally stars, including Petter Solberg, Ari Vatanen, Mikko Hirvonen, Malcolm Wilson and Kris Meeke plus many local stars including Mark Higgins, Gwyndaf and Elfyn Evans. Many charities have benefited from the generosity of the rallying world, including Welsh Air Ambulance and Cancer Research.

It has now been decided that as the forum has so far raised £99,000, it would be a pity if we couldn’t raise the last £1000, to make it £100,000 donated to charities, before ending the forum. To this end it was decided to go out on a high, by moving the forum to a larger venue to enable more people to attend the last ever Mid Wales charity forum. The organisers have decided that following the tragic passing away of 19 year old James Corfield during the Royal Welsh Show, one of the organisations to benefit from the forum, will be Brecon Mountain Rescue, who were heavily involved in the search for James. David Bannister is an artist living and working in Mid Wales. He was born in Coventry in 1966. He graduated from Camberwell School of Art in 1989 receiving a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design and Illustration. After graduating, he lived and worked in London as a scenic artist creating backdrops for commercial photographers. In 1990 he moved abroad to live in Tokyo, Japan returning back to the UK in 1993. In 1999 he moved to Mid Wales where he set up a small design studio called Draw66. In 2003, he retrained as an Occupational Therapist and worked within Health and Social Services. He now works as an independent Occupational Therapist alongside his life-long career as an artist. David enjoys painting in a variety of media. His recent work in acrylic and mixed media is inspired by the Kerry Ridgeway, an ancient track that crosses the border of England and Wales. He is passionate about drawing and sketches the world he experiences. 40

Hywel was born in 1968 and raised in Swansea with the beautiful landscapes of the Gower peninsula on one side and the Tawe and Neath valleys on the other. He and his wife moved back to Wales in 2014, settling in Welshpool, and opened the flood gates of landscape photographic inspiration. Camping on top of mountains, checking the weather forecasts for snow and sunshine, tromping around exploring mid-Wales with a camera in hand, he discovered there’s a whole gallery of fleeting moments of beautiful light and abstract forms out there just waiting to be captured. Few travelling landscape photographers discover them, rushing for the easier charms of Pen-Y-Fan or Snowdon. But in mid-Wales one is often the only person on a whole mountain - so if you want to share those magic moments when the clouds part and the light is just perfect, Hywel may have been the only person in the whole world to even have been there to see them, let alone photograph them. This cannot be guaranteed as all of the theatre’s unsold tickets will be sold first. If successful in re-selling the tickets, the Box Office will issue a voucher to you for use against any future booking. Credit vouchers can only be issued to the original purchaser of the ticket. It is regretted that, in line with most other professional theatres, cash refunds cannot be made on tickets already purchased.

For information on and how to become a member, please visit hynt.co.uk or call the Box Office on 01686 614 555. Os oes angen cefnogaeth neu gymorth arnoch i fynychu perfformiad mewn theatr neu ganolfan gelf, yna efallai y byddwch yn gymwys i ymuno â Hynt.
