Germany is renowned and revered in equal measure for its engineering excellence and attention to detail. Golf Course Zollmühle is exceptional as in addition to these attributes, it also enjoys a creative flair and most friendly of welcomes which truly set it apart. The Finest Golf, Germany has to recommend only the very best. Zollmühle Golf Club can comfortably sit amongst many of the best golf clubs in Europe and easily finds itself as one of Germany’s great golf experiences. Golf Club Zollmühle is located approx. half an hour from Nuremberg in the beautiful valley of the Swabian Rezat and only 8 minutes from the Grand Brombachsee. The grounds are immaculately maintained and managed with expert staff who obviously take great pride in keeping this 18 hole Championship course looking, and playing superbly. Everything about Zollmühle shouts quality and refinement with the golfer’s needs and experience paramount to the club and club management. The entrance is suitably impressive and welcoming in equal measure. The club house, though comfortable, fresh and modern, is traditionally German, dating back to the 11 century it has been transformed into a top, top, clubhouse of an extremely high standard. It’s an opulent setting that looks fantastic and also is in keeping with its surroundings and historical importance. XX THE FINEST GOLF GERMANY

Most impressive though is the welcome both from members and all of the staff alike. Great smiles and service leave you immediately feeling part of the club and relaxed in your preparation – we chose to enjoy a drink before our round and were spoilt with a fantastic coffee, served again, by the most welcoming and charming staff. A golf experience is so much more than just turning up with your clubs and hitting the first tee. When you’re looking to travel and experience new golf adventures or simply play during a business or leisure break, the club has to provide a great experience as much as the course needs to challenge you and other facilities spoil you too! Zollmuhle’s practice facilities include a top grade driving range, several putting greens as well as pitching and Chipping areas. The restaurant looks and presents itself as good as many top eateries and the service again is superb – real testament to the management’s commitment to ensuring the visitor enjoys his stay. The food is all freshly prepared from local suppliers and farms, butchers and bakers. The cakes are a real treat! The landscape around the course is breath-taking. Ancient trees and the natural scenery provide a memorable and uniquely German back-drop. The views from the 5 and 10 holes in particular are quite beautiful – that is if you can drag yourself away from your round to look…

The baroque city of Ellingen with its Castle sit in the valley and provide a truly stunning view. The fairways are tough and the rough punishing to the extreme. It’s exactly what a challenging course should provide these days. Great length for mega-hitters to extend themselves and hazards, hints and teases to lure you into taking risks to bring your score down. The greens play particularly well. They run fast, but true and are fair – again, perfect for golfers of every grade to enjoy. You can play the course in a variety of styles dependent upon your mood or group. For those of you looking to enjoy a leisurely round, safe lines allow for reasonable scores. For those wanting a round to remember, I urge you to take risks, to really get the most of the course. It feels as though that is what it was designed for and how it is meant to be played! It’s such fun pushing your game through Zollmühle’s, fully mature grounds which are all kept (as mentioned) beautifully. It is as natural and honest as a great course need to be. My favourite hole is probably the 8. You hit a blind tee shot over a bridge toward a tricky green that is protected by ridges and narrow fairway. If you are able to hit around par from the championship tees you need to be a great player! Best tip is to play the course twice. I promise you the second time you will try to find all of those lines you didn’t dare first time around J

A great course, and well worthy of our elite list of Finest German Golf Experiences and clubs. The nine hole course is very short, decent for a warm up and fun to play through – warming you up for the challenge of the 18. Again, providing a perfect blend of comfort and allowing you to decide how and how much you want to push your game. Enjoy a drink or two at the terrace in the clubhouse after your round. It has a real friendly and familiar atmosphere without any pretence.

My favourite hole is probably the 8. You hit a blind tee shot over a bridge toward a tricky green that is protected by ridges and narrow fairway.

Zollmühle take the time and trouble to ensure every visitor is treated like a pro. I was consoled on my 18 putt where a par was narrowly missed – impressive that both an interest and passion is part of the make-up of the club. Located close by this impressive club are many great hotels. A visit to the New Franconian Lakes and the nature park Altmuhltal are always worth a visit and are as impressive as they are peaceful and tranquil. Munich and Nuremberg are close, within approx. an hour so there is no reason not to take a day or two to enjoy traditional German hospitality combined with a service and challenging round to linger in the memory.
