get so excited when I imagine the future God has for our church. No doubt, God wants to use us to help make a difference in so many lives!

In Matthew 22:36-39, a lawyer challenges Jesus asking him, “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” Jesus answers him saying, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Jesus is clear that loving our neighbor is equally important as loving God. That’s a big deal! Let’s take this to heart. I can’t wait to see how God works through The Fields Church in 2018 and 2019 to be For Our Neighbors. We will be very intentional to be For Our Neighbors close to us, 10 miles down the road, and 10 hours away by airplane.

P a s t o r T r av i s S p e n c e r

We are at a defining moment to take huge steps of faith in loving our neighbors. We will move forward with an undying commitment to God’s Great Commandment (Matthew 22:37-40) and Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). I believe by God’s faithfulness and our great people at The Fields Church that For Our Neighbors will accelerate us forward to love our families, our communities, and our world in a whole new way. I hope this guide serves you to help understand the “why” behind For Our Neighbors. I encourage you to use it each week to write down notes, pray for our future, and ask God how we can personally be involved in resourcing the vision God has for us. It will take every single one of us to be a church For Our Neighbors.

H I STO RY

9 8 Years o f H i sto ry We have an incredible beginning. In 1920, Mrs. J.D. Andrews had a powerful experience with God that changed her life. Through that, she stepped out in faith and began our church in Mattoon. She had the pioneer spirit of launching a new church, the DNA of seeking God, and living with purpose has continued all these years. We often ask the question, would anyone notice if we packed up and closed our doors? Would anyone even care? These provoking questions drive us to be a life-giving church to all of our neighbors. As a church, we want to help raise up strong Christian families, impact lives across Central Illinois, as well as make an eternal difference across the world through our missions involvement.

Abo ut The Fields Church The Fields Church exists to help people find and follow Jesus. This has been consistent over the years since we began as a church nearly 100 years ago. We have a rich heritage of helping people know God. As a life-giving church, our heartbeat is for everyone at The Fields Church to know God, find freedom, discover their purpose, and make a difference. As a church, we want to be influential in Coles County, across central Illinois, and eventually be a valuable resource for other rural churches throughout the Midwest. We’re so thankful that God is enlarging our territory and allowing us to help our neighbors.

Kn o w G o d God wants to have a personal relationship with you. Sunday services are where we help people know God.

Find Freedom God’s process for you to experience freedom begins with having the right people in your life. He designed us for community, and connecting in Groups is how we find life-changing relationships.

M U LT I S I T E C H U R C H

M U LT I S I T E C H U R C H The Fields Church has entered a healthy stage where we need to expand our influence and become one church with multiple locations. Mandated by the great commission and empowered by God, we will communicate the life-giving story of Jesus beyond our current borders.

Acts 1 : 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” What is a multisite church? A multisite church is one church meeting in two or more geographical locations under one overall leadership and budget. A multisite church shares a common vision, budget, leadership and board. What will our multisite church look like? Each location of The Fields Church is a fully-functioning congregation with a location pastor. We will video-cast weekly teaching to communicate a consistent message at all locations. The Mattoon location will be our live filming site. Our locations will maintain a similar worship style, Orange Family Life programming, and serving teams. We will extend our ministry best practices consistently across all locations. It’s time for us to share Jesus in an intentional way beyond Mattoon. God is wanting us to be influential across central Illinois and eventually through resources rural churches across the Midwest.

14

Th e Fi e lds Ch u rch : Charlesto n We will be launching a new Charleston location in October of 2018. We are excited to follow God’s lead in reaching into new neighborhoods, new communities and new relationships.

W hy Charlesto n ? Our Charleston-area families want to invite their friends, co-workers and neighbors to a church in their own community. It’s an easier ask if the location is just a few minutes away. Our Charleston-area families are excited to share the passion of community service right in their hometown. There is an ongoing excitement to reach out and serve the Charleston school system, Charleston first responders, the local food center and the EIU community. The Fields Church will be #ForCharleston in a tangible and loving way. Approximately 20,000 residents and college students live in the Charleston area. There is great need for people to find and follow Jesus in the Charleston community. An invisible line exists between Mattoon and Charleston that holds several people back from attending a church outside of their hometown. We currently have limited influence in Charleston because of this. The Fields Church has approximately 50 families that have either attended a small group or Sunday service in 2017. There is a strong foundation of families who will lead the way in launching this new location.

God is moving and using veterans in our communities. We want to come along and host a Veterans Family Fest to give their families an incredible day. So many veterans have returned home not feeling appreciated. Some are even embarrassed to talk about their service. Imagine providing a day of fun specifically for veterans and their families. We believe the church can be a bright light in the lives of our veterans.

GIVING LADDER

The Generosity Ladder is a tool we use to help each one of us evaluate where we are on our generosity journey. Prayerfully consider your next step in giving. First-time Giver You give financial resources to The Fields Church for the very first time. Co n siste nt G ive r You begin to give financial resources to The Fields Church on a consistent basis whether that is weekly or monthly. P ro p o rti o nal G ive r You “do the math” to give a percentage of your income to The Fields Church. We recognize the the biblical example is giving 10 percent, known as the tithe. E x t r ava g a n t G i v e r You give beyond 10 percent of your income to the Fields Church. You look for ways to give more to impact more. L e gacy G ive r You are giving because you care about tomorrow, your children’s future, and your grandkids future. You are investing into the long-term health and growth of The Fields Church. 26

FA Q GENERAL

W h at i s F o r O u r N e i g h b o r s ? For Our Neighbors is a two-year generosity initiative that enables the The Fields Church to accomplish the vision God has given us.

What are the objectives of For Our Ne ighbors? We have three critical areas of ministry that need to be resourced and achieved. For Our Families - We want to minister to the next generation, to new believers, and growing followers where we will continue to build and shape the lives of those growing closer to God. Four Our Communities - We will invest in our community through an additional church site, neighborhood parties, The Fields of Hope, and Veterans Family Fest. For Our World - We will be partnering with 20+ missionaries and organizations who are actively investing in the next generation, those who are living in extreme poverty, and unreached people groups.

What’s the expectati o n o f Fo r O ur N e i ghb o rs ? We desire every person who calls The Fields their church home to make a declaration of generosity, resulting in 100% engagement. 2.5 million in generosity to be celebrated over the next two years to further the Kingdom of God.

36

FA Q GENERAL

H ow lo n g is my co m m itm e nt ? We are asking that everyone make a two-year commitment, which is 24 months. The fulfillment period for your commitment will January 1, 2018 through December 31, 2019.

W h at i f I a m s e v e r e ly i n d e b t r i g h t n o w ? Am I sti ll s u p p o se d to g ive ? If you are someone currently seeking to make payments to pay off debt right now, we commend you for making progress on that. And you should continue to do so. We would be happy to help you in this journey and/or to get you signed up in our Financial Peace University group. Please contact us if you need assistance with this, or if you would like to speak with someone about budgeting

I h av e m o r e q u e s t i o n s ! Great. For your first stop, check out our website at thefields.church. That will give you more information about this giving initiative and also point you to the right person, as well.

37

FA Q Y O U R I N V O LV E M E N T

Can Th e Fi elds Chu rch raise $ 2.5 M i lli o n i n two years? We believe $2.5 million is an attainable goal. The congregation gave close to $2 million during Say Yes (2016-2017). With the expanded growth of the attendance of The Fields Church, we believe that this goal is very realistic - if we give generously.

H ow will my “little” help? I d o n ’ t thi n k my gif t will make a di fference. That’s a myth we hear often. It’s easy to think that there are other people at The Fields Church that already give and do plenty to keep the place running. The truth is, the church can only fulfill God’s vision most effectively when everyone is willing to be For Our Neighbors with their time, talent, and treasure.

Can I d onate j ewelry, anti q ues, an d p ers o nal ite m s to the chu rch as part o f my Fo r O ur Ne ig h bors givi ng? We suggest before donating any personal property that you seek professional guidance from your personal tax advisor. The internal Revenue Service has complex and restrictive rules regarding the giving of personal property and in most cases donors discover they prefer to give in other ways. However, every situation is different so we strongly encourage you to seek professional advice. The Fields Church is prevented from appraising, making recommendations, or determining your best giving strategy in regards to personal property.

38

What is the Bi g Give o fferi ng? The Big Give offering on March 11 is a “first fruits offering and is included in your overall For Our Neighbors commitment. Giving a large portion of your commitment at the front end of this initiative allows us to move quicker on larger projects.

What must we d o to see this visi o n b eco m e reality? The vision is for all of us to take a step forward in our spiritual journey of generosity. We believe if that happens, God will supply sufficient resources to accomplish the vision. We want you to pray, listen, be obedient, and willingly act. Just take the next steps and we will be able to take this leap as a church family.
