Celebrate the Planet
Not sure where to start on your sustainability journey? Begin by tackling these five actions, then visit WM.com/recycleright for more resources and ideas to go green. Follow these these recycling rules for a greener and cleaner planet this month and beyond.
• Recycle clean plastic bottles, cans, paper and cardboard
• Keep food and liquid out of your recycling
• No loose plastic bags or bagged recyclables
Reduce & reuse whenever possible. Did you know reducing and reusing are even more impactful than recycling? The best way to minimize waste is by avoiding it in the first place. You can achieve this by opting for durable products such as bringing your own reusable to-go boxes, produce bags, and even carrying a personal utensil set on-the-go. Think critically about the items you the throw away and consider if there’s a creative way to get value from them. For example, an old spaghetti sauce jar makes a great storage container for smaller items!
Throw away less food. Food waste is often overlooked yet makes up a huge opportunity to reduce our impacts on the planet. Wasted food wastes everything: al the energy, water, and other resources that went into making and transporting it. Reduce less food through meal planning, keeping an “eat soon” box in your refrigerator, and purchasing “ugly” produce at the store that may otherwise be thrown away.
Green up your spring cleaning. April is a perfect time to declutter and deep clean. Be friendly to the planet at the same time by properly disposing of leftover chemicals at a hazardous waste facility. Better yet – grab a reusable bottle and make your own green cleaner. Once you’ve cleaned out the closet and decided what you no longer need, donate your old items, or give them away on a community group like “Buy Nothing”.
Reconsider your daily commute. Before hopping in the car to visit a friend, consider any alternative ways to get there. Are there others you could carpool with? Perhaps there is a bus already heading in that direction. Or, this could be an opportunity to dust off that bike in the garage! If those options aren’t possible, reduce your impact by making your car trips the most efficient they can be. Think about where you need to go over the next few days or weeks, and how you can combine trips. For example, stop by the grocery store on your way home from work instead of making a separate trip, and the planet will thank you!
Here’s to a beautiful and healthy planet this Earth Month and beyond. coordinator.

Project Beauty Share

We are a 501c3 nonprofit agency that provides personal hygiene, cosmetics, and beauty products to nonprofit organizations who serve women and families overcoming abuse, addiction, homelessness, and poverty to help restore hope and dignity in their lives.
In 2022, Project Beauty Share was able to impact the lives of over 65,000 families throughout the state of eastern Washington and northern Idaho including rural and tribal communities. With the generosity of national and local donors to help cover general operating costs as well as donating new and slightly used hygiene products, cosmetics, and makeup we were able to maintain and grow our mission to receive, sort, sanitize, and distribute over 66,000 pounds of products to our partner nonprofit agencies this year.
Without these products many women and families we serve may suffer from poor physical and mental health causing them to miss school and work. These donations we have received throughout the year allowed us to help women in our community thrive. www.projectbeautyshare.org
