PUBLIC ART PROJECT DEDICATION IN EXALL PARK The Friends of Exall Park would like to extend an invitation to the entire neighborhood of Bryan Place to come out and be a part of a Public Art Project dedication ceremony on Saturday, December 17th, at 10:00 AM. This piece of art work is being donated to Exall Park by a longtime, wonderful resident of Bryan Place. You may have noticed lots of activity around the "rock garden" near the corner of Bryan and Skiles. The park is getting some renovations and upgrades to the "rock garden". This is where the placement of the new art work is going to be installed. WHO IS THIS WONDERFUL DONOR OF ART TO EXALL PARK? You will just need to join us December the 17th at 10:00 to thank her and let her know how much you appreciate this wonderful addition to our park. Exall Park is the place to be as bright lights and events take over this holiday season. You may have noticed the Christmas tree near the ballpark decorated and lit up each evening as it was last year. Our thanks to the Friends Of Exall Park for delighting us again this year with the tree.

Revisiting Ross Avenue Now that the Icon At Ross Avenue is near completion, changes are also occurring across the streets from the new apartment complex to the east and south. According to Jerry Moreno, of Downtown Auto Upholstery at 1623 Hall Street, he sold the garage to a developer this month. The taco stand on the northeast corner of Ross and Hall has been demolished and plans are unknown for what is slated on the properties. The public art project for the Gateway To The Arts District (the Ross Avenue underpass at Central) has not gone to city council yet. This was supposed to happen in October, however we were told there are still issues that need to be resolved between the city and TxDOT on providing the power source for the lighting. The next cleanup project was also delayed due to the weather and holidays. We will keep you informed.
YARD OF THE MONTH
December's yard of the month is located at 3203 Lakenheath. Gary and Linda Collins have been proud Bryan Place residents since 2002, and have created a lovely garden at the corner of Marseille and Lakenheath. A collection of seasonal flowering plants, manicured shrubs, Japanese maples and trees with benched seating areas and a stone border creates a beautiful corner yard for the whole neighborhood to enjoy. Other recent improvements include new exterior siding and new wood flooring on the interior. We appreciate the time and effort that neighbors like Gary and Linda put into making their yard and home beautiful. Thank you for making Bryan Place such a wonderful neighborhood to live.
City Hall Contacted About Liberty Court Street Repair The city repaired a water main break last month on Liberty Court, but did a bad job returning the street back to the original state, not replacing it with the brick pavers which are popular on many streets within Bryan Place. They simply patched the repair with asphalt. Our council member, Angela Hunt, has been contacted and calls to 311 were made. Hopefully there will be a resolution to this soon.
Haskell Avenue Post Office Closure The Eastside Finance Station, the post office closest to Bryan Place, is slated to close as part of the United States Post Office cost cutting plan. Though the deadline has passed to submit your comments directly to the station, there still may be time to participate in the appeal process. If you are interested, please contact Allison Rizan, District Discontinuance Coordinator at 972-393-6485.

BRYAN PLACE WELL REPRESENTED AT COMPLETE STREETS SESSION We would like to thank the Bryan Place residents who were able to attend the Complete Streets meeting held last month at the Nasher to discuss ideas for making Ross Avenue more pedestrian friendly. Several ideas were mentioned, but lighting, wider sidewalks, and cross walks seemed to be the recurring theme. There was concern that the new Icon At Ross Avenue apartments are too close to the street with narrow sidewalks. However, at eight feet wide, it is actually wider than some newer sidewalks in the area along with much needed landscaping and lighting. The focus of the meeting was on setting design standards for the future, not zoning changes. Some ideas could be implemented over the next several months. We will keep you informed of follow up meetings.
Celebrate The Season Great Time At Holiday Party The Dallas Cowboys nor the cold weather could keep neighbors from attending the annual holiday party at the pool clubhouse on December 4th. It was estimated that the turnout was more than in previous years with folks coming from every street and HOA in our area and beyond. This joint effort between the neighborhood association and the swimming pool association is one of the biggest events held in Bryan Place each year. In addition to catered meals from Celebrations, there was a plethora of homemade and store bought goodies provided by residents and their guests. After everyone had a bit to eat, a short meeting was called to vote on next year’s neighborhood board members, then an announcement from Wayne Smith about the upcoming public art dedication in Exall Park and encouraging participation on the swimming pool association board. Cotton Mendenhall was also acknowledged for his hard work on the swimming pool board. The clubhouse was decorated for Christmas and some of the dÊcor was given away as door prizes. Congratulations to Gary and Joy Mitchell, Lexa Gurmendi, Carol Guthrie, Margaret Rogers, Carol Myers and Sergio, Mark Ingram, Patrick Holdrieth, and Natalie and Michael Harris for winning the beautiful poinsettias.
RECYCLE YOUR LIVE TREE Plan now what to do with your live Christmas tree after December 25. Recycle it! For details, call 311. If you have any announcements or news of interest for your neighbors, please contact David Allen at email@example.com or call 214-887-8708.

Lower Crime Reported The Dallas Police department was happy to report that Bryan Place only had two offenses reported last month. Much better than the previous month which showed an increase in area crime. However, they stress using common sense, especially during the holiday season as crime typically picks up. Be sure and hide your gifts while out shopping and destroy cartons being discarded from Christmas gifts like TVs and computers which tells a would be criminal about your new acquisitions. Help keep Bryan Place safe by reporting any suspicious person or activity.
Notify Your Neighbors Of Holiday Vacations Since so many of us are away from home during the holidays, we recommend that you inform your neighbors of your vacation plans; including a contact number, picking up packages, mail, and newspapers while you’re away. Have a safe and happy holiday!

Thank You From The BPNA President And Board As the year comes to a close, I’d like to personally thank all of you who continue to make Bryan Place a wonderful neighborhood and a great place to live. I’d especially like to thank those that I have served with on our neighborhood board, the Friends Of Exall Park, and the countless residents who have volunteered their time and effort, participating in projects to clean up or modify our area. We had more involvement from the homeowners associations within the area, which was one of my primary goals during my terms. Crime remains relatively low because we are vigilant, keeping a eye out for our neighbors, making Bryan Place one of the safest areas in Dallas. Of course everything did not go as smoothly as planned. We had a few controversies. But the spirit of compromise and respect for one another helps to make us all better neighbors and I am sure we all appreciate that. The work isn’t over yet, as we hope to continue getting everyone involved in 2012. I plan on doing so and I hope you will too. I hope you have a safe holiday. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! David Allen
