Starting your own business Preliminary Program Do you want to know what it takes to be an entrepreneur? Or do you have a business idea, but don’t know how to take it forward? Join the Startup Summer School. During this one week program you will work in groups of 1020 entrepreneurs on improving your business or business concept. We will give you a proven methodology for assessing and shaping your venture as well as plenty of time to discuss your idea with your peers, investors and experienced entrepreneurs. We will address all aspects of starting your own (tech)company. We believe in learning by doing. You can either bring your own business idea or borrow one of ours, but you will get your hands dirty and get to action. During the Summer School you will: - Receive 1-on-1 monitoring - Participate in a real business competition and win prizes - Meet real investors in Radboud’s Den - Get a Radboud Innovation startup certificate After the Startup Summer School, you will be able to decide whether a career as an entrepreneur is right for you. And if so, you will have gained the right tools, insights and skills to proceed.

Participants introduce themselves & pitch business ideas 12.00 - 14.00 Lunch 14.00 - 15.00 Being an entrepreneur and building a team During the first session you’ll get in touch with your own strengths and weaknesses, learn what ‘living the dream’ actually looks like. We will also touch upon building a team that fuel and sustain your startup’s growth: the perfect team composition and team competencies. 15.00 – 15.30 Break 15.30 – 16.00 Creating competitive advantage Why are some organizations able to sell more products even though their competitors are equally good? We’ll use the “golden circle” to help you find your company’s true starting point and become your own competitor. 16.00 – 17:00 Design Thinking Design Thinking is a design methodology that provides a solution-based approach to solving problems. Understanding the basics of design thinking will help you better understanding the human needs underlying the problem you are solving and as such help you build a product that your customers love.

Visualize your product's value proposition, infrastructure, customers, and finances. You’ll have to go out there, talk to your customers, check your business assumptions and find out how solid your starting point is. 12.30 - 14.00 Lunch break Meet Dutch startup entrepreneurs 14.00- 16.30 Working on business plan Use the insights gained so far and start working on your business plan. We will provide you with an online application that helps you to fill out your plan step by step. Coaches will be available who will help you with your questions and get you in touch with potential launching customers.
09.00 - 10.30 Lean product development Master the lean startup method to effectively scale your business: learn about MVPs, validated learning, piloting and pivoting; technology enhancement or development, prototyping, and industrialization 10.30 – 11.00 Break 11.00 – 12.00 Protecting business ideas Formulate strategies that capitalize on and maximize the value of your company’s intellectual property assets to drive growth, innovation and cooperative relationships with other companies. 09.00 – 10.30 Funding What is the best way to fund your business idea? Learn about seed money, business angel networks and crowdfunding. Match different types of funding with your ambitions. 10.30 – 11.00 Break 11.00 – 12.00 Pitching Impress and convince potential customers and investors with a 2 minute presentation. Learn what’s important to tell and what’s not. But it’s also about what to wear and how to present yourself. 12.00 – 14.00 Lunch break - Hand in bikes 14.00 – 15.00 Dragons Den pitch finals The moment of truth: pitch your idea in front of a jury with experts and investors. The winner will go home with a prize and maybe even an investment.
