When we launched our first ship, 1972’s TSS Mardi Gras, we knew we were shaking things up. We made cruising a lot less stuffy, a bit less fancy, the kind of fun everybody could enjoy.

Nobody expected this ship to change the cruise world, but… here we are! And if it happened again, it wouldn’t surprise us. In 2020 we’ll be launching a brand-new ship with a familiar name. You guessed it: Mardi Gras. We aren’t just paying homage to our first ship — in cruising circles this name suggests innovation, signals the start of something big and it shouts “fun!” at the top of its lungs. We’re building this new Mardi Gras to live up to that legacy, so start daydreaming now about what’s to come!

For one thing, this ship introduces Zones — six themed areas packed with brand-new experiences for eating, drinking and spectacularly getting down to fun. More announcements are still to come, but we’re all ready to pull the wraps off what may be the most thrilling: BOLT™, the first-ever rollercoaster at sea!

• A 14-day trans-Atlantic crossing from Southampton to New York with stops at Las Palmas, Canary Islands, Spain; Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain; Funchal, Madeira, Portugal and Ponta Delgada, Azores, Portugal.

• A 6-day cruise round-trip from New York to Portland, Maine and Saint John, New Brunswick.

• A 15-day Carnival Journeys sailing to Amber Cove, San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, St. Kitts, Aruba, Curacao, and Grand Turk, positioning the vessel for year-round voyages to the Caribbean.

Once in her home port of Port Canaveral, Mardi Gras will sail on a special 8-day Caribbean cruise and will kick off 7-day cruises from the Space Coast, offering two different three-port, 7-day itineraries, alternating weekly to the Eastern and Western Caribbean featuring some of the region’s most beautiful and popular ports.

On a Carnival cruise, your holiday starts in the atrium, and on Mardi Gras that’s in the Grand Central zone. On this ship, the atrium’s different. There are high ceilings that hint at fun living on the three decks above and floorto-ceiling windows bringing in ocean views. Plus, you’re not far from great dining at Bonsai Sushi and Bonsai Teppanyaki, and good entertainment at Piano Bar 88 and The Punchliner Comedy Club.

EMERIL’S BISTRO 1396™ We couldn’t build a French Quarter on Mardi Gras without an Emeril restaurant!! In 2020, Mardi Gras will sail with Emeril Lagasse’s first-ever restaurant at sea: Emeril’s Bistro 1396™.

You’ll now be able to enjoy the authentic bayou flavours New Orleans is known for on your holiday! From fried oysters and duck & sausage gumbo, to po-boy sandwiches, fresh ceviche and more!

THE FRENCH QUARTER What inspired The French Quarter is no less than New Orleans itself! You’ll be pleased to hear that The French Quarter is lined with bars, eateries, and spots serving up everything from small plates to classic Hurricane cocktails straight from the bayou. Also, Mardi Gras will set sail with Emeril Lagasse’s first-ever restaurant at sea: Emeril’s Bistro 1396!

Summer Landing is the greatest chill spot at sea! Know what goes great with chilling outdoors? BBQ, so we’re building a Guy’s Pig & Anchor Smokehouse | Brewhouse into this zone to make sure it always tastes like summer here. You won’t be surprised that the pool isn’t far with our original Parched Pig™ beers brewing just a few feet away!

Aboard Mardi Gras, Lido, our poolside zone, features delicious and fun ways to spend a day. You can take in a Dive-In Movie at the pool and you’re not far from signature Carnival favourites like Guy’s Burger Joint, Seafood Shack, and BlueIguana Cantina. Lido is also home to fan-favourite Swirls, the free soft-serve spot cranking out the cool 24/7.

THE ULTIMATE PLAYGROUND Don’t let the name fool you, this zone is for ages everybody and up. The Ultimate Playground starts with BOLT™, the first rollercoaster at sea, an all-electric thrill ride that puts the power of speed in your hands. It also has the largest Carnival WaterWorks ever, plus SportSquare featuring an entire mini-golf course, full-court basketball and a ropes course. Ultimate enough for you?

STREET EATS Debuting on Mardi Gras with three ever-changing open-air stations, Street Eats is Carnival’s tribute to the food-truck phenomenon! There’s one station specialising in steamed stuff like bao buns and shumai, one that puts the “skill” in skillet with the likes of kebab and satay, and one that fries up favourites like empanadas and falafel. You may be far from the street, but flavour’s right around the corner.

La Piazza stands for flavour and it starts with Cucina del Capitano, which brings your party together for a night of Italian favourites, while Pizzeria del Capitano makes delizioso happen for you 24 hours a day atop a base of imported Italian flour and fresh mozzarella. Mardi Gras also debuts a new Mediterranean spot where you’ll sip authentic espresso drinks by day and classic Italian cocktails by night.

BOLT™: ULTIMATE SEA COASTER™

Family Feud™ has delighted viewers at home for generations, but you’ll now be able to buzz-in on a cruise ship! Family Feud™ Live exclusively hits Mardi Gras in 2020. Hosted by the ship’s cruise director, the show will take place in Mardi Gras’ Grand Central zone. Every sailing will host four unique games where you can choose to participate or join the studio audience for a chance to compete in the “Insta-family” version of the game!

BOLT™: ULTIMATE SEA COASTER™ On Mardi Gras you’ll also meet BOLT™: the fastest and first rollercoaster at sea! Strap in and zoom your motorcycle-style speed machine around an open-air course high above sea level. You’ll get to control how fast you go, so hit the gas and try for the fastest time or choose chill mode and go light on the pedal. This just might be the coaster for you!

A Mardi Gras Ocean Suite offers more space for stretching out indoors, plus a large balcony for kicking back outdoors. In an Ocean Suite, you’ll experience private, luxurious relaxation… which even extends to the large, deluxe bathroom!

This is the kind of room that proves luxury and comfort go handin-hand. You’ll find a bathroom with a spacious shower, double sink, and lots of room for living and lounging. Plus, you’ll enjoy a dining area and two TVs with extra space for kicking back on your balcony, featuring lounge chairs and a dining table that seats four.

A Captain’s Suite aboard Mardi Gras features tons of indoor space, plus a large wraparound balcony with lounge chairs and a dining table that seats four! Back inside this room, you’ll find a king-size bed, deluxe bathroom, and living room featuring a wet bar.

A Carnival Excel Aft Suite treats you to a wrap-around balcony, private hot tub for two, dining area for four, a daybed, and a sitting area with a rocking chair and loveseat. Wow! Inside the room, enjoy a bathroom with a large shower and double sink, plus a separate room featuring a toilet and extra sink. There’s also two TVs, a walk-in closet, lighted vanity and large sofa.

CARNIVAL EXCEL PRESIDENTIAL SUITE

The largest room on the ship features a separate living room and bedroom with TVs, a walk-in closet, and large sofa with a coffee table.

Dining area seats four, and there’s a wet bar. You’ll find a bathroom with a large shower and double sink, plus a separate room featuring a toilet and extra sink. There’s also a hot tub on the wraparound balcony, with seating and lounging, including four at the al fresco dining table.

Let the whole family experience the wide-eyed wonder of a great room with an amazing view: a Family Harbor Ocean View Suite stateroom. Family Harbor staterooms feature a unique nautical décor inspired by the craft of seafaring itself. The room sleeps five, featuring a separate bedroom and living room area with TVs. These rooms are fun AND practical!

You could call the Havana Cabana Suite the crème de la crème… but that’s French. So here’s your Spanish lesson for today: la mejor habitación. In “the best room” you’ll find all the luxuries of a suite decked out in Cuba-inspired décor. Outside this suite lies a private, luxurious lounging area with your own deck chairs and hammock chair.

In a Havana Cabana Corner Suite, you’ll find all the luxury of a normal suite decked out in Cuba-inspired décor! There are separate living room and bedroom areas, with TVs in each, plus a sectional sofa and walk-in closet. Outside your amazing room lies a private lanai with your own hammock chair.

LOFT 19

Located on the ship’s highest deck, Loft 19 is a new concept offering you an exclusive and secluded retreat with a full bar and private pool surrounded by sun loungers and cabanas available for rent. Cabanas are stocked with beverages, plush robes, chilled towels, fresh fruit, lunch delivery, and dedicated concierge service.
