Healing Your Relationship With Food Stress levels have exploded over the past year. People are contending with their own personal and family problems, further complicated by the pandemic, job concerns, political and social issues, and on and on. For many, this layer upon layer of stress and worry has created or exacerbated unhealthy eating habits. It’s not unusual to hear, “I’ve gained 15 lbs. since the start of all this.” Maybe you’ve noticed yourself visiting the fridge or kitchen cabinets more often – hunting for food as a way to soothe your worries or calm your fears – as you escape for a few blissful moments into a dish of creamy ice cream, or a piece of gooey pizza, or a bunch of chocolate peanut butter cups. After a while, you may find yourself reaching for food simply because it’s become an automatic behavior. Whether you’ve gained weight or stayed the same, if you’ve gotten stuck in unhealthy eating patterns, your health and well-being can suffer. When you use food as a way to deal with emotions, you’re creating an unhealthy relationship with food – and embedding troublesome habits. But you are capable of changing that. To begin healing your relationship with food, it’s important to remind yourself that food is for fuel. Yes, you should enjoy and savor it – but always remember that eating is a way to provide nutrients so that your body and mind can function optimally. Consider the following questions. For any “yes” response, consider more appropriate, commonsense ways to handle those feelings and situations – and start making the changes you need to make: • Do you use food as a way to deal with unpleasant feelings (i.e., stress, anger, sadness)? • Do you use food as a way to reward yourself? • Do you use food as a substitute for companionship and love? • Do you use food to procrastinate? • Do you use food as a way to handle boredom or entertain yourself?

Imagine yourself responding more effectively. Notice the details. Mental rehearsal can help you do this. Once you start changing your mindset, amazing things can happen. If you find that you need help with this, using hypnosis and coaching can transport you from knowing what steps to take, to actually taking those steps. This approach is based on neuroscience – the study of how the mind works. Research in neuroscience has taught us that the brain is constantly rewiring itself, which means you are always capable of changing. By accessing your subconscious mind, negative patterns are much easier to neutralize, and positive patterns can be embedded. An important side benefit of this approach is that it bolsters your ability to relax. Hypnosis is an efficient, holistic, and empowering modality. It works wonderfully for people who are motivated to change, believe that with the right tools and techniques they are capable of changing, and understand they need to be a partner in the process. (Virtual and in-person sessions available. COVID precautions are in place.) For a Free Phone Consultation, call me at 732270-0080. Integrating hypnotic techniques and coaching paves the way for successful outcomes and boosts your sense of well-being.
