adidas and Manchester United launch 2019/20 home jersey, celebrating 20 years since the famous treble of 1999

New home kit design celebrates famous treble winning season of 1998/99

11

adidas Football has today revealed the new Manchester United home kit for the upcoming season, paying homage to the incredible 1998/1999 season in which the club made history by becoming the first club ever and since, to win the Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League; completing the iconic treble. History was made 20 years ago to clinch the treble, following an epic Champions League Final, which saw United battle back from behind to defeat Bayern Munich 2-1 in Barcelona, with goals from Teddy Sheringham and, now Reds manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The minutes of when those famous goals were scored – the 91st and 93rd respectively – are shown on each sleeve of the new adidas jersey for the forthcoming season. The dates of the three title wins are also displayed along the bottom of the shirt. An all new commemorative crest design of bold black with gold stitching, taking inspiration from the one worn that season, completes the shirt. Available from adidas stores, adidas.com and official club stores exclusively from today, for a period of seven days, the shirt is accompanied with white shorts and black socks. Alongside the jersey, there is also an authentic version available to buy, which will be the same worn by the team on the field of play, and shirts specifically for children and women. The home goalkeeper jersey will come in a tiger pattern featuring a dark purple two-tone design, referencing the top worn by Peter Schmeichel during the 98/99 season. The new Manchester United home kit will be worn for the first time on pitch in an anniversary game v Bayern Munich at Old Trafford on 26th May 2019. It will feature players who played in the famous match, 20 years ago. The first team will then wear the jersey in Perth on 17th July, during their preseason tour, against Leeds United.

theAGENDA Maserati celebrates the victory of the Tipo 6CM in the 1939 Targa Florio

016

celebrates the eightieth anniversary of Luigi “Gigi” Villoresi's impressive win at the 1939 Targa Florio at the wheel of the Maserati Tipo 6CM. The Milan-born driver achieved victory at the Parco della Favorita circuit in Palermo, Sicily on May 14th 1939 by covering the race's 40 laps, totalling 228 km, in 1:40.15.4. Luigi Villoresi also recorded the fastest lap in the race with the time of 0:02.24.6, averaging 141.908 km/h. Piero Taruffi and Guido Franco Barbieri finished second and third, also in Maserati Tipo 6CM cars. It was a historic result for Maserati, confirming its undisputed leadership in the prestigious Sicilian race. Maserati had also dominated the 1937 and 1938 editions, taking the first three places in both years. Luigi Villoresi also finished first in the 1940 edition, driving a Maserati Tipo 4CL. The Targa Florio, one of the world's oldest and most famous automotive races, is named after Vincenzo Florio. Florio, a wealthy Palermo businessman already well known in the racing world, created, funded, and first organised it in 1906. In total 62 editions of the Targa Florio took place from 1906 to 1977 (it was not held during the two World Wars). The race was held every year, normally in May, on the roads of Palermo. Sicilian roads, especially the narrow, winding roads through the Madonie mountain range, always played a central part in this race. It was only in the years from 1937 to 1940 that the event was held at the Parco della Favorita circuit in Palermo. The Maserati Tipo 6CM, an amazing single-seater racer, was designed by Ernesto Maserati and began to take shape in 1935. The car was fairly conventional in looks but its contents were extremely advanced. Even more ground-breaking than the new engine (a straight six with the cylinders cast in the same block as the head and arranged in pairs on the same elektron crankcase, twin overhead camshafts driven by a rising gear chain, 2 valves per cylinder and a Roots volumetric supercharger, providing a maximum power of 175 HP), the car's most distinctive feature was its chassis, which marked a major step forward in vehicle design. The basic structure was still the ladder frame, but with innovative front suspensions which provided a major advantage over English and French competitors. The suspensions consisted of torsion bar springs mounted so that the spring tension could be adjusted to suit the characteristics of the circuit. Like the rest of the car, the bodywork was updated in a variety of ways, especially with regard to its aerodynamics. The extremely rounded shapes, the succession of different side panel forms and the more slanted front clearly reflected the research into aerodynamics ongoing throughout the years of its construction. This car's racing supremacy reached its peak in 1938, when it triumphed over the formidable British ERA cars that had always been the Italian constructors' most dreaded rivals. The same year also saw the debut of Alfa Romeo's famous Alfetta, created for the Vetturette Grand Prix competitions. However, to the Maserati Brothers' great satisfaction, that year the Tipo 6CM also defeated the Alfetta at the Pescara GP.

The Ventura is one of our most popular watches and has had a cult following since its original release in 1957. Since 1997, it has been a part of the iconic Men in Black uniform. Daring, pioneering and ahead of its time, it’s an eye-catching choice that has served the Agents well. Since 1932, Hamilton watches have been at the heart of cinema. They have appeared in over 500 major movies and are specially selected to help define characters and advance the plot. Our watches are instantly recognizable on the wrists of some of the most memorable characters in silver screen history – none more so than the Men in Black. In 2019, the Men in Black are back with a brand-new adventure in Men in Black™: International. They’ve always protected Earth from the scum of the universe. This time, they tackle their biggest, most global threat to date: a mole in the Men in Black organization. We are living in a world of contradictions. In our constantly connected lives, we sometimes find ourselves dreaming of simpler times even as we appreciate the convenience of modern technology. the original. There are three seahorses stamped on the stainless steel case back, just as on the original 1960s models. The diver’s style turning bezel, the date in red and the distinctive sword and arrow-shaped hands are some of the best-loved original Captain Cook features. They’re all present and correct in 2019. Modern materials updates include the high-tech ceramic insert for the bezel for added scratch resistance and the sapphire crystal that offers optimum dial protection. The modern automatic movement also offers up to 80 hours of power reserve – a feat unimaginable in 1962. With its subtle colour scheme, the Captain Cook Automatic can blend seamlessly into any situation. Its 37 mm case won’t stand out but it definitely makes a statement about the wearer. If you sometimes find yourself thinking that things were better before, and that things are better now, then this is the watch you’ve been waiting for. The new Rado Captain Cook Automatic is a perfect vintage look for modern time travellers.

Please introduce yourself to our readers, tell us about your music: the type of music you play, where you are from, and how you got started? I was born in Cairo, Egypt, and lived in Volgograd, Russia, until 1998. Volgograd is a small provincial town south of Moscow and that's where I began playing classical piano aged four. When I moved to New York City, I had just turned seven and experienced a culture shock. I thought my new home was a hotel because everything was shiny, the elevators clean and fast. I remember tasting the water from the faucet and thinking "Wow, this water is even amazing!" NYC was like a fairytale to me; I'd never seen anything like it before, let alone lived somewhere so amazing. Since then, I've grown up on the city's Upper West Side. It's everything everyone describes it as: "the city that never sleeps" "hustling non-stop to get to the top." I attended SMS (Special Music School) from 5th-8th grade, where I continued my classical piano studies and realized I wanted to become a singer. I enrolled in an after-school musical theatre youth program called City Lights - that's where I started performing as a singer and actress. Once I graduated SMS, I continued my musical studies at LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts (the "Fame" school) as a vocal major and discovered I could write original songs in my sophomore year (10th grade). Since then, I've been writing and recording soulful R&B songs.

What inspired you to be a part of the music industry? I've been singing as long as I can remember. My mom has videos of me singing in a holiday pageant in Russia when I was three. My family is very musical, and I grew up in a home filled with music. My mom never studied but has a beautiful voice. My stepfather's mother is a music teacher who has supported me since I first came to America, practising with me and taking me to opera and musical theatre in NYC. My stepfather was a drummer and took me to my first rock concerts, including Steely Dan, one of my all-time favourites. My biological father's family was very prominent in showbusiness in Egypt. My aunt Samah Anwar is a famous TV/movie star/director. My grandpa was a well-known playwright, and my grandma was an actress. I'm glad I had a chance to meet them, even though I wasn't close to them. I'm pretty sure entertaining and performing runs in my blood and is my destiny.

What is your genre of music? I like blending the genres of R&B, Soul, and Funk, with elements of Hip Hop.

How does your Russian and Egyptian roots affect your music? To me, being Russian and Egyptian makes me different, and I've always tried to keep that uniqueness in my music, by tastefully pushing musical boundaries.

Tell us about your debut album 'Defined' how was the experience working on it? My debut album "Defined" was a project comprised of songs I wrote throughout my time in college at SUNY Purchase & University of Miami, with a few throwback songs from High School. I'm proud of the way it turned out even with the amount of limited resources I had at that point in my career as an artist, but I would love to eventually rerecord it with a full live band and name it "Re-DEFINED" (Re-Mastered)!

June, 2019

025

Did you have any challenges at the beginning of your career? In 2010, when I just got to the University of Miami to study Music Business & Songwriting, I came down with vocal nodules. I was put on and off vocal rest: so no singing for two years. However, it didn't help, and in 2012, my doctors decided I needed surgery. Instead of operating on the vocal chords, which could have changed my vocal range, timbre and texture, they decided to take my tonsils out. My doctors told me I would have to learn how to sing with a pseudocyst on my vocal chords but that it wouldn't be impossible. I thought this was the end of my career, even though the doctors stayed positive. After my surgery, I was sick with bronchitis, and when I went for my post-op check-up, my doctor scoped me and told me "Amira, I have no medical explanation for this and I've never seen this in my life, but it looks like your pseudo-cyst is gone!" Since then, I had had another vocal scare with a pre-nodule in October 2018, but I was able to get rid of it with proper vocal therapy and polishing up on voice lessons.

Why did you decide to release the album independently?

026

I've been writing music for over a decade now, and I had nothing to show for it because of all my vocal complications. I wanted to get something out to the public as fast as possible, and that's mainly why I chose to release "Defined" independently. For me, it was about creating a set of music that would work well together as an album and live on stage. I knew record labels wouldn't be interested in this project because it's not commercial. Although the album was wellreceived by indie blogs Atwood Magazine, AXS, and The Deli Magazine, I don't think it necessarily connected with people as much as I wanted it to. At this point as an artist, I'm trying to make enough waves in the music industry independently, build up my audience, and if an opportunity arises with a record label, I'd be open to it.

Describe each of your tracks in two words. "Left in the Dark" - lost, depressed l "No Desire" - addiction, forgotten l "Killin' Me" - anguish, heartbroken l "Talk" - confused, annoyed l "Wouldn't I Like to Know" - wondering, limbo l "Lie" - lust, fooled l "I Won't Argue With You Anymore" - fighting, resentment l "I Don't Know" - broken relationship l "Impossible" - fed up l "I Am Defined" - confident, reflection l "Just Another Thing" - side piece l "Never Gonna Fall in Love" - flirty, fun l "Do You" - self-love l

What message are you trying to get out? The message I'm trying to get out as an artist, especially on my latest single "Do You" is that YOU are beautiful, talented, and can do anything you want, as long as you put your mind to it and don't forget what's INSIDE OF YOU! "All you need is you" and I'm a firm believer that we can all move mountains

and do our best if we believe in ourselves. Just do what makes you happy, and everything else will fall into place!

How excited are you about your upcoming EP? I'm SO excited to be releasing new music this summer especially as it's so different from my first album. 2018 was a transitional year for me, full of self-growth and shifting my sound to a more urban one. "Do You" is the first single off my next EP also titled "Do You" and the response from everyone so far has been incredible. It's been a fantastic experience working with producer CARRTOONS, and I can't wait to share what else we've been working on.

Describe your creative process? When it comes to writing, every song is a different process for me. Sometimes the melody comes first, sometimes the chord progression is the first thing I write, and sometimes I'll have a lyric written that I try to put music to. It also depends on whether I'm creating something from scratch because sometimes I'll get a beat sent to me and I'll have to write to that. Working with CARRTOONS, we had a nice mix of everything: some songs I brought to him, and they just needed production, some songs he gave me to write to, and some we just started from scratch. It all depends on who you're working with and how you want your writing process to be. I like to keep an open mind and try not to box myself into some songwriting formula because magic can't happen that way.

What artists are inspiring you at the moment?

028

I'm digging Anderson .Paak, KAYTRANADA, Jorja Smith, H.E.R., Ariana Grande, Jill Scott, SZA, and Janell Monae.

What are your plans for the future? I'd love to tour the US or anywhere else in the world. My debut album received good reviews, and the crowds at my gigs have been growing, but it's an incredibly competitive business, and I know there's still much more work to do. I'm not worried - I'm still in the early stages of my career and believe getting my big break is just a matter of time!

What are some of your other hobbies and interests? I love baseball. I played boys, little league until I was 13 years old and I was the only girl on the team. My HS softball team were NYC divisional champions, and I still play co-ed softball on several teams! I'm extremely active and practice Bikram & Vinyasa Yoga at least 2-3 times a week, as well as a workout at the gym. I enjoy swimming, hiking, skiing, painting, going to the beach, anything outdoorsy really. I love binge-watching terrible TV shows and romantic comedies - it's my guilty pleasure!

Your favourite food? I could eat a shawarma wrap with falafel and lamb/chicken every day - I guess that's the Egyptian side of me!

Your favourite city to travel? I lived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for a while in 2015 and got to travel to Thailand. I fell in love with the food, the people, and how beautiful it was, especially Krabi Beach. I could see myself going back there, getting lost, and never coming back!

Your message for CiiN magazine? Never quit on your dreams - always believe in yourself, practise selflove, and you'll learn you can accomplish anything

Beige, red, green, pink and neon. Maje’s winter 2019 collection swings between the obvious and the unconventional, here and away, day and night, monochrome and prints. In a subtle harmony. A Parisian woman, playing with appearance, eras and places, that Paris does not hold back. A wardrobe reflecting her image: versatile, offbeat, comprising essentials and full of surprises. Eclectic by necessity, because change is good for everyone. As long as the balance is retained. In winter 2019, first and foremost, she is looking for warmth, finding it in a boho-chic reverie, characterised by beige shades and off-white monochrome. Winter is the season, the fabrics are soft and supple, enveloping. Skirts and knitwear effortlessly come together. As do a small checked suit and large oversize, sleeveless coat, strangely enough. A bohemian Parisian woman, yes. But with a touch of luminosity too, always sensual and radiant. Dancing the twist at night, wearing it during the day. Winter steals the light. A little evening sparkle to wear whenever you want. Embroidery, ultra-feminine plumetis, sequins and lurex conquer everyday wear. And then suddenly, you want to be elsewhere. You want to see England and how they dress for winter there. In tartan, tweed or Scottish plaid, red on black, tartan skirts, devoured cashmere prints, and leather and PVC jackets. So it seems. Judith Milgrom simultaneously touches down in both Paris and Glasgow during an imaginary trip with her beloved dog, Gipsy, who, crashing out wherever he chooses on hoodies and t-shirts, is next winter’s real mascot. Again, this season, Maje is keeping an open mind. To influences and to moods. Between home and away, elegance and frivolity, imagination and reality, in perpetual motion.

Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak Selfwinding Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin Pushes the Boundaries of Complicated Thinness With a movement of 2.89 mm in thickness and a case of 6.3 mm in height, the new Royal Oak Selfwinding Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin (ref. 26586IP.OO.1240IP.01) becomes the world’s thinnest automatic perpetual calendar wristwatch and marks Audemars Piguet’s latest technological milestone.

033 The Manufacture’s R&D team has integrated movement development, design and ergonomics in the conception of this new timepiece to boost its efficiency, robustness and reliability. The result? An ultra-thin selfwinding perpetual calendar wristwatch equipped with a complex movement re-engineered to integrate an elegant ultra-thin case, perfectly fitting under the sleeve of a shirt and endowed with a refined dial design enhancing visibility.

Movement Re-Engineered into One Single Level To reach an ultra-thin movement of 2.89 mm in height, the perpetual calendar functions, normally arranged on three levels have been merged into one single layer. This led to the development of two pioneering and patented innovations: the end-of-the-month cam has been integrated to the date wheel, while the month cam has been combined to the month wheel. The geometry of each component has also been optimised from the onset, reducing adjustment and assembly time. The dial, too, has been redesigned compared to previous Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar models (such as ref. 26574). The day, date and month subdials have been enlarged for optimum legibility, while the night and day indication at 8 o’clock has been added symmetrically to the leap year indication positioned at 4 o’clock.

Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait at Burj Alshaya Unveils its First StandAlone Restaurant, Riviera by Four Seasons

The Regency elevates the Vegan Scene in Kuwait

Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait at Burj Alshaya opens Riviera by Four Seasons, a Mediterranean-accented restaurant at The Gardens in the Avenues, the largest and the most-visited shopping and leisure destination in Kuwait and the region

034

The elegant Mediterranean-inspired restaurant will bring together the sophisticated and intuitive service for which Four Seasons is world famous with fresh ingredients and flavours from around that region under the eye of Sicilian Sebastiano Spriveri, Executive Chef at Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait at Burj Alshaya. Riviera has been designed by Shanghai-based Kokai Studios – which has already worked with Four Seasons on highly-successful projects in Kuwait and Japan – to be both intimate and convivial. “The opening of Riviera demonstrates a commitment to expanding our presence in the Kuwait market,” comments Didier Jardin, General Manager of the Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait at Burj Alshaya. “We are continuously striving to raise the bar, which we do through our personalised and attentive service. Our culinary team’s creativity and hospitality have contributed to our welldeserved reputation as trendsetters.” The restaurant is set in The Gardens, a brand-new area of The Avenues, the state-of-the-art mall that is unrivalled in Kuwait and the Middle East. It is positioned away from crowds, a welcome pause in the day, creating a new sense of community where diners can catch up with friends, enjoy a casual business lunch, hear about the day’s events with family or simply take time out before or after shopping. Guests will be welcomed with a choice of indoor or outdoor seating, and an atmosphere that evokes the glamorous heydays days of Beirut, Cannes and Capri. Filippo Gabbiani, owner of Kokai Studios, acknowledges that the idea for Riviera has partly been driven by Dai Forni restaurant at Four Seasons Kuwait at Burj Alshaya. “Dai Forni has been hugely successful,” he remarks. “We wanted to create something smaller and more casual in The Avenues, but retaining all the excellence of the original.” Diners will embark on a culinary journey around the Mediterranean, with dishes from Morocco to Greece, Spain to Lebanon, France to Tunisia. The curved walnut bar at Riviera is reminiscent of the sleek hulls of the motorboats that cruise along the shores of the south of France. When it’s time to eat, light and healthy choices such as marinated tomato with artisanal fior di latte mozzarella, olives and basil pesto or garden leaves with honey mustard dressing and parmesan crackling will be offered. Delicious pizzas will capture the essence of Italy. Corn-fed chicken tajine with preserved lemon, green olives and spiced couscous, risotto with seasonal mushrooms and parsley drizzle or traditional Valencian paella will satiate heartier appetites. Afterwards, tiramisu, dark chocolate eclairs and a range of ice cream flavours and sorbets will delight those with a sweet tooth. “I love bringing people and cultures together through food,” says Sebastiano Spriveri. A “ ll of us here are very excited to launch Riviera, which will bring a new dining experience to a completely different level and add a dash of Mediterranean spirit to eating out in Kuwait.” www.theciin.com

The Regency Hotel Kuwait elevates the vegan scene in Kuwait and takes it into a new artistic and scientific level through hosting an entire vegan fine dining experience presented by the award-winning Swedish food artist, Tora Flora, who is known for molecular gastronomy and her experimental and artistic takes on plant-based and vegan dishes. The guest food artist created a spectacular molecular menu of 7 courses for two VIP vegan dinners that were hosted by The Regency at Al Liwan Lounge for a limited number of 24 guests. All guests were treated to a completely vegan fine dining experience free from any animal products used in food preparation or presentation. The dishes were work of arts, refined to perfection and beautifully presented with vivid colors and elements of food and science incorporated in them. “The Regency will continue to lead the culinary trends and cater to the growing community of vegans in Kuwait. We were keen to introduce a unique vegan fine dining experience to our affluent guests, through inviting chef Tora Flora, who combined science, food and art to create a memorable experience based on some plant-based dishes that were a delight for the eye and a treat for the palate” said Otto Kurzendorfer, the General Manager of The Regency Hotel Kuwait. “For me, food is art. I convey more than just good and sustainable meals. I give a unique and memorable experience which is created by science, art and a pinch of madness” said the food artist, Tora Flora. The Regency Hotel will soon incorporate some of Chef Tora’s item into the Liwan Lounge menu as a spin-off from the successful vegan dinners to cope with the increasing interest in healthy living lifestyle

Breitling launches Wheels and Waves Limited Edition in Biarritz A LIFESTYLE STATEMENT IN THE WATER, ON THE TRACK, AND IN THE AIR

035

Breitling took to the Wheels and Waves festival in Biarritz for the launch of its Premier Wheels and Waves Limited Edition watch, which comes in two versions: 18 k red gold and stainless steel. The brand also celebrated its powerful links to two thrilling sports – motorcycling and surfing. Since 2012, Wheels and Waves, the world’s leading motorcycle, surfing, and skateboarding festival, has attracted visitors from all over the world – who are drawn to the festival’s dynamic yet cool atmosphere – to the popular resort town. Wheels and Waves is a festival like no other. Each June, thousands of visitors find their way to Biarritz, where they are treated to displays of world-class surfing, motorcycle racing, and skateboarding. This year, as Official Timekeeper, Breitling was on hand throughout the festival, which proved once again to be a platform that authentically embodies the Swiss watch manufacture’s Land and Sea brand worlds. The third world, Air, was well represented on Friday night as the Breitling Jet Team dazzled festivalgoers, flying through the skies above Biarritz. The Wheels and Waves organizers are very excited about Breitling’s active role at the festival. Jérôme Allé said, “We’ve completely enjoyed working with Breitling and are thrilled by the support we’ve had from Georges Kern and his Squads. They share our passions and our commitment to engaging with our community. Breitling lives up to its reputation as a cool, inclusive brand, and the Squad brought those values to this year’s Wheels and Waves.” Breitling CEO Georges Kern said, A “ t Wheels and Waves, we highlighted the passions we share with the festival: a cool, laidback surfing lifestyle and sporty, elegant motorbikes. It also gave us a chance to introduce ourselves to people who, like us, are driven by action, purpose, and style – and we launched a watch that celebrates the festival that expresses those values.”

Joyful and sparkling, the Perlée collection presents a ballet of golden beads. This year, it is being enriched with luminous new creations: rings, pendants, earrings and – for the first time – a long necklace and four watches. With their rounded lines, they lend themselves to multiple combinations.

A transformable long necklace This year, a brand new style takes its place in the Perlée collection: a transformable long necklace with a playful spirit. On a long chain in yellow gold, a pendant made up of three different-sized rings showcases the collection’s iconic golden beads. In a surprising variation, the central ring can be removed and replaced by one of three other circles adorned with beads of turquoise, coral or onyx. The long necklace can thus be worn in different ways to suit every occasion. Each bead has been shaped and polished by hand, before being strung in a falling line on a thread of gold. In a mirror effect, these precious materials are subtly reflected in the surrounding golden beads. The deep black of onyx, the sky blue of turquoise and the orangey-red of coral bring a summery, light- hearted feel to this new creation.

Joyful cabochons Three jewelry sets, made up of earrings, a pendant and a ring, are making their debut in the Perlée couleurs collection. They give pride of place to cabochons of hard stones, in three dazzling harmonies of colors. Yellow gold combines its warm overtones with the singular beauty of malachite, white gold highlights the luminosity of turquoise, while the gentle glow of rose gold echoes radiant carnelian.

Precious ribbons Three rings of light take up their place in the Perlée diamonds collection, delicately associating the precious stones with the brilliance of yellow, white and rose gold. These refined creations, presenting a row of diamonds surrounded by two rows of golden beads, sparkle to accompany the movements of the hand. Fine and elegant, they can be associated in multiple ways: they may be worn in pairs or as a trio, or combined with the delicate Perlée bracelets adorned with a row of diamonds.

Please introduce yourself to our readers. I am Yousif Bourisli, a half-Kuwaiti, half-American born in Texas, US, and brought up in Kuwait.

Tell us about your education. I work for the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Kuwait Airport, where I am team leader in the Engineering Department.

How and when did you get interested in photography and art? Music has always been a big part of my life between mixing and editing, and I never thought of doing anything else as a hobby. But, as I am into fashion too, I began taking pictures on my iPhone of myself. My family and friends loved my posts, and that led me from an iPhone to a Fujifilm camera, and a passion for photography. This is me when I want something I dig I want to be the best at it. I practised and learned more about photography by myself and finally moved over to a Sony camera, one of the best and most complicated you can ever use.

Can you tell us what came first, your love of photography or your interest in Photoshop? As a child, I have always wanted to draw and be an artist, but unfortunately, I haven't been able to put my visions on canvas. However, my wish came true when I learned about Photoshop. It is all I need in pursuing my interest in photography

How would you best describe your style of art? My vision of my lifestyle and the beauty around us, which is often taken for granted. As they say "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

Do you have any favourite Photoshop tools or techniques that you use in your work? Can you share them with our readers? I have no technique but follow my instinct, workflow and creativity with the Photoshop tools available.

How do you go about creating a piece? Can you share your creative process? I read a lot of articles, quotes and motivational stories, watch true story films, and listen to electric music to inspire my creativity

How do you choose the subject of your photography? I prefer random people, nature sites, landscapes, streets and skylines in my pictures. They show and tell their real stories without talking to us.

Your message for CiiN magazine? I appreciate being given a chance to show what I can do using my camera and Photoshop. I am proud of what I have become with the little I've had. I love and appreciate my talent, and I see it grow faster and stronger within me. This talent is a gift given to me behind the lens. Finally, I would say: "Take your dreams seriously and work hard to get them." Thank you for having me on your page. June, 2019

Can you tell our readers a little about yourselves and your music? We are a band from outer space to save the human race. Our mission is to spread our music to the world and make people feel good. All five of us gather in a small space filled with our instruments and experiment with all the possibilities of music. We combine various styles and instruments together with the addition of each member's influences. And that’s pretty much how Galaxy Juice came to life.

Describe each band member in 3 words each. Abdulla: The weird one Salem: The melody guy Fahad: Mr. Classic harmony Mohammed: Father of beats Bader: The younger one

How was your band formed and why do you choose to call it “Galaxy Juice Band”?

058

The band was formed in 2013 but we’ve been friends since high school. We started playing music together because of our rock influences and since then we began exploring more and more. After graduation we took the decision of producing our first album “Crystal Dunes” just to put a small drop in the ocean of music. However, the feedback we got exceeded our expectations and made an impact on a local level. Galaxy Juice, the name was chosen because of our openness to play any number of musical styles. For example, we played rock, electronic, synth pop, jazz, psychedelic rock, ambient and Middle Eastern music. The amount of styles is infinite so we refer to this as “the galaxy”. And mixing them produces our sound which is “the juice”.

How would you describe your music? A mixture of dreamy fusion of relaxing danceable beats in both futuristic and ancient spaces

How is the current music scene in Kuwait? Have you been performing live in the past years? The music scene in Kuwait is still in budding phase but definitely growing, we got people playing all kinds of music. Yes, we've performed a couple of times in Kuwait and around the region.

Do you guys maintain a collaborative songwriting process?

What has been your most memorable musical moment so far?

Yes, we do. There’s no strict protocol we follow, basically we jam and have fun with our instruments. If someone has an idea, we record it and everyone collaborates to build up the song with different ideas.

Our last show in Bahrain was the most fun and memorable musical experience that we have so far. We spent some quality time with Bahraini local musicians and we ate Fish and Chips in our luxurious hotel suite. It was truly a rock star moment for us.

What was the production process like for your new album?

What do you hope the future will bring to you guys?

It was long and stressful like any other album because we try to please each member of the band so everyone has to be happy with the final results. However, we are learning more and more about music production as years go by.

In what ways are your new songs and previous releases similar? How are they different? They are similar in a way that they have the essence and feel of galaxy juice and they are different in the approach and the direction. we have a concept for each project and that includes the way we perceive and there is a story behind the project. So that differentiates between them all.

We are hoping for a word tour. As far as our music is concerned, we want our music to be heard in space.

Do you have a message for your fans? We'd like to thank all of our fans for supporting us over the years and making us enjoy the love of producing music.

Your message for CiiN magazine. Thank you for getting in touch with us and we hope that the readers will enjoy our conversation along with our music.

What is the most important thing you want people to take from your music? We love that people enjoy and immerse themselves in our music, use their imagination and get all the good vibes.

Who are three musicians you think the world needs to hear right now? We'd like people to check out some of our local artists like Temple Tree, 2RABU and Bloom Tribe

Who are your biggest influences, both musically and personally? Chick corea, Gary Numan, Rush, Kiefer and Alejandro Jodorowsky.

KENZO

MEN’S & WOMEN’S SPRING/SUMMER 2020 COLLECTION THE LAST MERMAIDS OF JAPAN For our ultimate collection for KENZO, the Spring-Summer 2020 collection, we looked to the home of our founder Kenzo Takada, and more specifically to the surrounding seas of Japan where groups of strong, tenacious and modern-day super-heroes plunge daily to retrieve treasures at the bottom of the ocean. The Ama are groups of Japanese female free divers, who, for over 2000 years have dived to the ocean floor to forage for seafood such as shrimp, urchins or even pearls for their communities. They train from their beginnings

068

as teenagers, taught by their predecessors who can dive well into their 70s. Due to breath training, Ama can stay underwater for significant amounts of time in one go. Over time their numbers have declined, and these intrepid fisherwomen can now only be found sporadically in pockets along the Japanese coastlines. Withstanding harsh and sometimes freezing temperatures, they have become known as the last mermaids. Our collections are a tapestry of elements combining traditionally marine associated garments with modern and technical diving gear. For women, neoprene suiting in orange, violet and black are juxtaposed against crushed wet-look jersey tops and dresses. Skirts in mermaid jacquard linens are adorned with pearl buttons while nylon tops in vivid colors of corals have sleeves rolled up to the shoulder. Transparent suiting complements the prints of shrimp, mermaids and sea lilies. High waisted trousers feature an assembly of embroideries, reminiscent of treasures amassed while diving. Woven ikats feature on either dresses, tops for women or as panelling on shirts and trousers for men. Tailoring in liquid viscose, sun-bleached denims and ikat prints also straddle both collections. For menswear, hardy rubberised outerwear appears in orange and violet while Hawaïan shirts abound with prints of sea lilies or urchins. Solarised cotton sweaters in indigo or dark greys walk along side tailored jackets with shawl collars and rough edges. Jackets and coats in summer linens feature sailor collars and shorts are made of high frequency lazercut nylons. Suits are cropped and boxy and classic ‘K’ shirts feature net panels color blocked in lilac and orange. Net prints appear in dégradé pigments on printed cotton. In our Fall-Winter 2019 collection for KENZO, we introduced a new bag, ‘The Tali’. We revisit the Tali for Spring-Summer 2020, updating it within the themes of the new collection and we introduce a new smaller version, The Mini Tali. Skins of viper snake resemble fish scales. Dégradés recall the approaching light seen from the bottom of the ocean floor. Net straps and bumbags mirror the belt pouches used by the Ama to retrieve their rewards. Sunglasses are high performance and feature solarised lenses to protect. For women, traditional Japanese Okobo sandals in the sea-lily print walk alongside scuba sock sandals and a new unisex sneaker style, the scuba inspired K-Wave for men and women.

Boucheron Couture Novelties

It all began with a rustling of fabrics. The son of cloth merchants, FrĂŠdĂŠric Boucheron grew up amidst swathes of silk and he never forgot this first matrix populated with pleats, drapery, threads and needles. His love for the volume and fluidity of materials came from this childhood environment. Thus it was that the Maison Boucheron's Parisian history was written at the crossroads of Haute Joaillerie and Haute Couture. Exceptional pieces came out of this very special history, iconic jewelry combining the preciousness of jewelry materials with the soft and airy touch of textiles. A perfect example of this was the iconic Delilah necklace that pushed the boundaries of jewelry, daring transgression, play, and freedom of movement. True to the spirit of its founder, the Maison designs exceptional pieces drawing inspiration from the dressmaking excellence of the French couture Houses. In the Boucheron workshops, gold is worked as one would weave lace, ribbon or a silk scarf. Some airy pieces have even been inspired by passementerie and its attendant tassels and fringing.

088

Pompon necklace Inspired by decorative trimmings, this white gold, onyx and diamond necklace combines the twotoned graphics of art deco rigor with the freedom of movement of a diamond-fringed tassel.

Figures such as 1,000 cv, and a weight-topower ratio of 1.57 kg/cv, and 390 kg of downforce at 250 km/h not only put the SF90 Stradale at the top of its segment, but also mean that a V8 is the top-ofthe-range model for the first time the marque’s history.

The SF90 Stradale has a 90° V8 turbo engine capable of delivering 780 cv, the highest power output of any 8-cylinder in Ferrari history. The remaining 220 cv is delivered by three electric motors, one at the rear, known as the MGUK (Motor Generator Unit, Kinetic) due to its derivation from the Formula 1 application, located between the engine and the new 8-speed dual-clutch transmission on the rear axle, and two on the front axle. This sophisticated system does not, however, make for a more complicated driving

The car’s name encapsulates the true significance of all that has been achieved in terms of performance. The reference to the 90th anniversary of the foundation of Scuderia Ferrari underscores the strong link that has always existed between Ferrari’s track and road cars. A brilliant encapsulation of the most advanced technologies developed in Maranello, the SF90 Stradale is also the perfect demonstration of how Ferrari immediately transitions the knowledge and skills it acquires in competition to its production cars. www.theciin.com

experience. Quite the opposite, in fact: the driver simply has to select one of the four power unit modes, and then just concentrate on driving. The sophisticated control logic takes care of the rest, managing the flow of power between the V8, the electric motors and the batteries. The SF90 Stradale is also the first Ferrari sports car to be equipped with 4WD, a step necessary to allow the incredible power unleashed by the hybrid powertrain to be fully exploited, ensuring the car has become the new benchmark for

standing starts: 0-100km/h in 2.5 sec and 0-200km/h in barely 6.7 seconds. Ferrari’s engineers were able to further broaden the spectrum of dynamic controls by introducing the full-electric front axle, known as the RAC-e (electronic cornering set-up regulator). As well as exclusively providing propulsion in electric drive, the two front motors independently control the torque delivered to the two wheels, extending the concept of Torque Vectoring. Fully integrated into the car’s vehicle dynamics controls, the RAC-e governs the distribution of torque, making driving on the limit much simpler and easier. The introduction of this hybrid architecture was a challenge with regard to managing the additional weight which was resolved by an obsessive attention to detail and the overall optimisation of the whole of the car. For maximum performance in terms of overall weight, rigidity and centre of gravity, the chassis and bodyshell of the SF90 Stradale is all new, built using multimaterial technology, including, for example, carbon fibre. The development of a hybrid car of this kind demanded the development of a series of innovative aerodynamic solutions. The significant boost in the power unit’s performance brought with it an increase in the amount of heat energy to be dissipated and required the development team to carry out an in-depth review of the aerodynamic flows on the radiating masses. It also demanded new solutions to increase downforce efficiently and guarantee maximum stability at all speeds and in all driving conditions.

Particularly noteworthy is the innovative shut-off Gurney, a patented active system located at the rear of the car which regulates the air flow over the upper body, reducing drag at high speeds with low lateral dynamics loads and increasing downforce in corners, under braking and during changes of direction. The new car is epoch-changing from a stylistic perspective as it completely rewrites the mid-rear-engined sports berlinetta proportions introduced on the 360 Modena twenty years ago, instead taking its inspiration from Ferrari’s recent supercars. A good example is the cockpit, which has a smaller frontal section and is placed closer to the front of the car to reduce drag. This was also achieved without impacting on-board comfort. The track-derived “eyes on the road, hands on the wheel” philosophy takes on a truly central role for the first time too, significantly influencing the ergonomics and styling of the interior. The result is an HMI (Human-Machine Interface) and interior layout concept that are a complete departure from previous models. Another major innovation is the steering wheel which now has a touchpad and a series of haptic buttons that allow the driver to control virtually every aspect of the car using just their thumbs. The central instrument cluster is now entirely digital with the first automotive application of a 16” curved HD screen which can be fully configured and controlled using the controls on the steering wheel. On the central tunnel, improved ergonomics have been combined with an element from the past: the automatic

June, 2019

gearbox controls are now selected by a grille-style feature that references Ferrari’s legendary manual gear-shift gate. Thus past and present skilfully merge to point the new Ferrari towards the future. The SF90 Stradale also sees the debut of the new ignition key with full keyless technology which will gradually be introduced across the rest of the range, personalised with the model’s name. Thanks to a special compartment in the central tunnel, it becomes an integral part of the car’s styling. In addition to the sporty version, which references the shape and colour of the signature rectangular Prancing badge sported by Ferrari’s road cars, there will also be a more elegant metal-coloured version. For the first time on a Ferrari, clients can chose between the standard car and a version with a more sportsoriented specification. The Assetto Fiorano specification includes significant upgrades, including special GT racingderived Multimatic shock absorbers, extra lightweight features made from high-performance materials such as carbon-fibre (door panels, underbody) and titanium (springs, entire exhaust line), resulting in a weight-saving of 30 kg. Another difference is the high downforce carbon-fibre rear spoiler which generates 390 kg of downforce at 250 km/h. The Assetto Fiorano includes Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 tyres designed specifically to improve performance on the track in the dry. They feature a softer compound and fewer grooves than the tyres provided as standard.

Porsche Centre Kuwait welcomes the new 911

F

aster, more powerful and, more efficient than ever before, the eighth generation of the Porsche 911 has arrived in Kuwait. Revealed at a special event held by Porsche Centre Kuwait, Behbehani Motors Company, at the showroom, two variants, the rear-wheel drive 911 Carrera S and the all-wheel drive 911 Carrera 4S, highlighted the design and performance evolution of the brand’s most iconic sports car. The rear-engine model range has been redesigned and now showcases a more muscular look that pays tribute to its past, while also embracing the future with technology woven into its DNA. Speaking during the launch event, Callum Bottomley, General Manager

of Porsche Centre Kuwait, said: “Just like the first generation, the latest 911 is a sports car for the new era. Our icon has once again evolved and is now more powerful, more emotional, and more efficient than its predecessors. It is the best 911 Porsche has ever produced and this eighth generation maintains the 911’s status as a pure driver's car that also offers everyday usability and unique design. As such, I am delighted to announce that the 911 Carrera S and the 911 Carrera 4S are now available here in Kuwait.” 911 Carrera S and 911 Carrera 4S deliver 450 hp The turbocharged flat-six engine of both models now produces 450 hp. This corresponds to an increase of 30 hp compared with the previous generation. The two 911 variants beat the four-second mark for acceleration from zero to 100 km/h: the rearwheel drive 911 Carrera S needs 3.7 www.theciin.com

seconds and the 911 Carrera 4S, with all-wheel drive, just 3.6 seconds. This makes both models 0.4 seconds faster than their predecessors. The optional Sport Chrono Package reduces the sprint by a further 0.2 seconds. Power in the new models is delivered by a newly developed eightspeed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) dual-clutch transmission. Top speeds are now measured at 308 km/h for the 911 Carrera S and 306 km/h for the all-wheel drive version. The fuel consumption (NEDC-correlated) of the 911 Carrera S is 8.9 l/100 km, while the 911 Carrera 4S records this figure as 9.0 l/100 km. Porsche Design DNA The new 911’s silhouette remains iconic with an exterior design that draws on its earlier generations, making it familiar and yet undoubtedly new. This eighth incarnation is more assertive, with significantly wider wheel housings

arch over the 20-inch front wheels and 21-inch rear wheels. The rear end is now the same width across all models, highlighting the slimline centre section. At the front, the body is 45 mm wider. Electrical pop-out handles in the doors emphasise the tapered and smooth side contour, while a bonnet with a pronounced recess evokes the design of the first 911 generations. At the rear, all models feature a rear significantly wider, variable-position rear spoiler and the seamless, elegant light strip. Apart from the front and rear sections, the entire outer shell is now made from aluminium. Redesigned interior with clear lines The completely new interior is characterised by the clear and straight lines of the dashboard with recessed instruments, inspired by the 911 models from the 1970s. Alongside the central rev counter – typical for Porsche – two thin, frameless displays supply information to the driver. The centre screen of the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) is now 10.9 inches and can be operated easily and

without distraction thanks to the new interior design. Located underneath this there is a compact switch unit with five buttons for direct access to important vehicle functions. The seats have also been fundamentally modified. Improved driving dynamics The new 911 advances driving dynamics with the new mixed size tyre configuration, with 20-inch wheels on the front axle and 21-inch wheels on the rear axle. At the same time, the tyres on the rear drive-axle are significantly wider than on the front wheels. The combination results in increased stability, traction and balance while reduced understeer and oversteer improve safety. The refined chassis design is completed by the next generation of Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), which has been extensively developed for the new 911. New assistance systems increase safety and comfort In a world first, Porsche has developed the Wet mode, included as standard. June, 2019

This function detects water on the road, preconditions the control systems accordingly and warns the driver, who can then set up the vehicle for enhanced safety, by simply pushing a button or using the mode switch on the steering wheel (Sport Chrono Package). Brighter and smarter The new optional LED matrix headlights with PDLS Plus are an eyecatching development. The energy centre of the Porsche Dynamic Lighting System matrix headlights is made up of 84 individual LEDs. The generated light beam corresponds in range and intensity to laser light. This is distributed so that the driver always benefits from maximum illumination of the road, without dazzling or disturbing other road users. The new Porsche 911 Carrera S and 911 Carrera 4S are now available at Porsche Centre Kuwait.

The 21st edition of the International Engine & Powertrain of the Year has seen Ferrari triumph again, taking the overall title with its 720-cv, 3.9-litre V8 for the fourth year running, a feat never achieved by any other engine in the history of the awards. The 3902 cc V8 engine that powers the 488 GTB, 488 Spider, 488 Pista and 488 Pista Spider took the overall honours and also the Performance Engine award. With this year’s change from capacity categories to power output categories, to ensure a fairer judging of hybrid powertrains, Ferrari’s V8 took a further two categories: the same engine was voted the best power unit over 650 PS, while the 3855 cc version that powers the Portofino (with 600 cv) and GTC4Lusso T (with 610 cv) was awarded the 550 to 650 PS category. As a result, this year’s ceremony in Stuttgart, Germany saw Ferrari’s tally of International Engine & Powertrain of the Year awards rise to an impressive 31.

It's your time to shine, Aries! The Sun is blazing through your sign until April 20, waking you up to your passion and purpose. You're in the zone, and the feeling is only getting stronger, especially once the year's only Aries new moon arrives on April 5. This annual lunation is your "personal new year," a cosmic coming-out party that perfectly positions you for a debut. If you've got something to launch or share, do it now. This new moon could also kick off a sixmonth self-discovery process, one that will culminate at the Aries full moon on October 13. You've got a whole block of time to let your inspired birthday-season wishes unfold. Set a few intentions, light the spark—then see where it all takes you.

Two is your magic number in April with the Sun traveling through Aries and your seventh house of committed partnerships until April 20. As the natural ruler of this zodiac zone, Libra, this is your wheelhouse. Spend quality time connecting with your closest people, checking in to make sure everything is balanced and harmonious between you. The April 5 Aries new moon could bring a partnership opportunity, either personal or professional, that merits serious consideration. While new moons take up to six months to unfold, you could start exploring whether this is a win-win scenario, asking all the important questions to suss that out.

Power down a little, Taurus. You had a pumped-up, passionate March that got you more hyped than ever. Not only was energizer Mars in Taurus until March 31, but revolutionary Uranus swooshed into your sign on March 6, setting off an explosive seven-year reinvention tour. You've been on fire with all your plans and dreams. But you're also a sensual Taurus, and all this momentum could have you a bit disconnected from your body. Heck, you could probably use a good long nap!

All systems go? April begins with a sigh of relief as we leave March's Mercury-retrograde madness in the rearview, along with its attendant drama. You're eager to get back to your routines and plans—enough chaos already! Good news: Your efforts to restore order are supported by the Sun in Aries and your sixth house of health and organization. Until April 20, el Sol is heating up this systematic sector. You're eager to bring some sharp edges back where things have gotten fuzzy.

120 Get out and win the public over, Gemini! This month begins on an energized high note thanks to go-getter Mars in your sign from March 31 to May 15. You're hyped up about an idea or initiative, and your cutting-edge concepts could draw viral attention without much effort. And with the Sun surfing through Aries and your eleventh house of popularity until April 20, you'll have no trouble creating a raving fan base or a cutting-edge collective of genius minds to produce and promote your vision. You'll succeed as a solo star AND a team player this month, a rare opportunity.

At last, a bit of fun and playful energy for you! This year has been moving nonstop for many Archers, both with new adventures and weighty demands. For that you can blame the combination of expansive Jupiter in your sign riding sidesaddle with iron-fisted Saturn in Capricorn, which is clamping down on your work and money house. Your fellow Sagittarius Britney Spears' song "Work Bi**h" might be the closest thing to an anthem that describes the year so far.

Keep your eye on those goals, Crab! The Sun is soaring through the top of your chart until April 20, blazing its annual trail through Aries and your tenth house of career and ambition. If you've been a little halfhearted about where you truly want to focus this year, Aries season can help you create a solid structure. At the April 5 Aries new moon, a professional or leadership opportunity might set you on an exciting path that unfolds between now and mid-October. All the more reason to prioritize—what you put your dedicated effort and grit into could seriously pay off before the decade ends!

Hunker down at home base, Capricorn. April marks one of the most internal and domestic months in a year already colored by a cacophony of emotions that have washed up without much warning. You're releasing major blocks and baggage, stripping away inauthentic parts of yourself and getting vulnerable. While some zodiac signs might welcome this, it's almost counterintuitive to your nature. Yet, here you find yourself, unable to get around those feelings…so you might as well go through them wholeheartedly.

Stretch wide, Leo! The Sun is in Aries and your ebullient, expansive ninth house until April 20, gifting you with the kind of wide-angle lens on life that reveals limitless possibilities. Ah, just the way you like it! The first three weeks of April draw you far out of your comfort zone with opportunities to travel, learn and explore visionary ideas. What really lights your fire, Lion? The April 5 Aries new moon could provide a healthy dose of clues, igniting your passion and sparking an idea that you pursue in the coming six months.

Synergies abound! Until April 20, the Sun is in Aries and your third house of kindred spirits and communication. You've got ideas to share and things to express—and you'll utilize every platform at your disposal. After a month of Mercury retrograde (from March 5 to 28) imposing a gag order on your genius, you're ready to let those creative concepts out of the bottle. Writing, teaching and media outlets could be your playgrounds.

Into the cocoon you go! The Sun is in Aries and your private eighth house until April 20, your annual time to go "off the grid" for some introspection and intimacy. Narrow your attention to a few key relationships and projects. Your bandwidth for the public may be low, but during this hyper-focused month, you can make serious strides around a research project or anything that requires a deeper dive.

Steady as she goes! You're primed for some calmer waters, Pisces, and April will finally deliver. And if we do say so, you've earned the right to them! Last month you endured the madness and mayhem of Mercury retrograde in YOUR sign from March 5 to 28. You're ready—eager, even—for a little bit of "boring." April serves up the stability that allows you to leave that chaos in the rearview. The Sun is in Aries and your second house of work, money and daily routines until April 20. It's a methodical, one-dayat-a-time energy that's just the right speed for you. www.theciin.com
