The 11th edition of Abu Dhabi Art, which took place between Thursday, November 21st and Saturday, November 23rd at Manarat Al Saadiyat in Abu Dhabi, housed a unique pop-up space by MKS Jewellery. Nestled in the fair’s community section, the MKS Jewellery booth aptly named ‘We Are Words Woven, We Are Stories Told’, exhibited an immersive experience reflecting on the UAE’s beautiful heritage and celebrating the fundamental instinct of self-expression and storytelling. Through a unique display of Emirati mother-of-pearl shells, the interactive hanging installation encouraged visitors to co-author love letters to the UAE by leaving personal sentiments and sharing poetic thoughts that embodied their memories, hopes and dreams. The concept and design stemmed from the brand’s new Al Otaiba collection, which officially launched at the fair. Drawing inspiration from H.H. Sheikha Mariam bin Khalifa bin Saif Al Nayan’s great grandfather, Al Otaiba ‘The King of Pearls’, the new collection looks to tell stories of Sheikha Mariam’s ancestry, honoring UAE heritage and bringing it to the present through modern interpretations. Proudly using Emirati pearls as well as the classic mother of pearl, the handcrafted creations are a marriage of past and present through the stories they tell and through their thoughtful design. The collection; comprised of necklaces, rings, bracelets and earrings, incorporates five storylines that reference back to the nation’s pearl heritage and reflect on Otaiba in different ways, all the while keeping a contemporary feel and elevated aesthetic in order to speak to generations, past, present and future. "These symbols and storylines celebrate this land and its people. The UAE is me and I am the UAE, this is my story in all its beautiful symbolic ways. Curated is a stack of special creations, coming together piece by piece to share different parts of its treasures both in its gems and meaningful treasures" - HRH Sheikha Mariam Saif Al Nahyan.


As a brand that values self-expression and believes that jewellery is a unique way for people to tell their own story, share passions, thoughts, memories and experiences, MKS Jewellery collaborated with Untitled Chapters, a community founded in 2011 for Emirati women writers of all ages and genres to share their passion for the written word. This natural synergy came to life at Abu Dhabi Art with daily poetry performances that spoke of heritage storytelling and symbolism yet translated for the contemporary world. “The stories, just like the jewels one day will become part of our heritage and treasured history too”, says H.H Sheikha Mariam, “I wanted to celebrate my heritage, because it makes me who I am, it makes us who we are.” The launch of the Al Otaiba collection showcased within ‘We Are Words Woven, We Are Stories Told’, saw the coming together of innovative storytellers that not only celebrated the UAE and its heritage but celebrated selfexpression. As an entrepreneur in couture fashion, with a rising international clientele, Dina is dedicated to the detail of each of her designs, while recognising that fashion can help transform people in so many positive ways. While she dreams of opening her own shop in London, she is kept grounded by her two young daughters.

Please introduce yourself.

I am a fashion designer, creative director and founder of Melwani Couture Fashion House. Originally from Moldova, I moved to Dubai in 2008, have been married for eight years and have two beautiful girls, who are my number one priority. I've always had a creative nature, so I established Melwani Couture in 2015, positioning ourselves as creators of couture. Since I married into the Indian culture, I am always inspired by the creativity and beauty of Indian textiles and embroideries.

Tell us about your education.

I completed my Business Administration degree at Middlesex University Dubai, with First– Class Honours. Simultaneously, I took courses in Fashion Design at Esmod University and internationally at the London College of Fashion. At Middlesex University, Dubai, I am one of the Alumni students; hence I was recently asked to be a participating member of their Fashion Design Advisory Board. It is a tremendous honour for me. I think it is important always to educate ourselves. I continuously take business and self-growth courses to help me with my growth.


What sparked your interest in fashion?

My love for creativity comes from a young age. I always remember drawing and making dresses for my toys. My mom is a very creative person. During her free time, she was teaching students at our school painting and how to make ikebanas for which she received international awards. Later, she took me to Arts School in Cahul, Moldova, where I went religiously every day after school for four years. During this time, I received many national and international painting awards. I always knew I wanted to become a fashion designer and own my own business. For me, fashion is a very powerful phenomenon. The clothes that a person wears can empower and make them more confident and attractive. I find it amazing how wearing the right outfit can ultimately even change people's perceptions about you. I was always fascinated by beautiful dresses, and now I am able to create these dresses that people love and are so happy wearing is genuinely the most satisfying job to have. To empower the wearer and focus on accentuating the beauty of the feminine form is what keeps my interest in fashion so alive.

Are you self-taught, or did you study fashion design?

Although I completed short-courses in fashion design, most of what I truly learned is through the people I employed. I invest in my people as I believe the final product and the success of the company are fully dependent on the team. I employed people that study fashion and that worked for prominent ateliers in Europe and Moscow. I ask my team what the work process in their company was, what is the design process; how do they approach each step. I always design each piece myself, but also work closely with my embroidery team, consider their input and how the

embroidery should look. As a creative, it's ok to be self-taught as it always comes from within.

When was your brand established, and how has your work evolved since?

I opened my brand in Dubai in November 2015, beginning with a very simple pret-a-porter collection. Although my interest was always couture, I took a year to understand the business truly, created a supplier list, and learnt everything there is to know about creating a couture collection. It's very important to start small, and enjoy the journey and the learning process.

What influences the design details in your collection? What's the inspiration behind each of those designs?

I draw my inspiration from various sources. For the "A Million Dreams" collection, The Royal Russian House (end of the 19th century, beginning of the 20th century) served as an extraordinary source of inspiration. The exquisite fashion of that time, as well as the fine jewellery and crowns, inspired the gowns and the style of the hand embroidery. Also, the Phoenix bird, often cited in Russian folklore stories, is predominant in some of the gown embroideries, gently blending with the baroqueinspired themes. I always get inspired by the fabrics I use. In this collection, we utilized extraordinary meshes such as Italian and French laces, crepes, Italian silks and silk chiffons.

What's the creative process of creating a new collection?

A lot of time is spent perfecting a collection and ensuring that each garment is created with care and flawless construction techniques. Although it is always advisable to first identify the trends for the next season, in my case, I prefer to make our own trends. That's why I love my job so much; it allows us to be more creative. We begin with a mood board. Mood boards usually create a visual of the direction we want to take in our collection, and it gives us an idea of the textiles and textures we need to utilize in the collection. Based on our mood board, we then create our sketches. Then we select and approve the sketches that go into the finalized collection. Even though the model of the dress can still change in the process, as each fabric falls differently when draped on the mannequins, we may decide along the way that a certain garment style doesn't necessarily suit the fabric we intend to use. It can be a long process as we may decide to remove certain dresses from the collection.

How is your work received internationally?

In general, I think fashion that is inspired from the Middle Eastern and Eastern cultures are becoming more popular among Western and Russian

communities. While catering to the Middle Eastern market, many of my European and Russian clients appreciate this style. We have a growing clientele worldwide buying our pieces. Therefore I am thrilled that, although we target and cater to the Middle Eastern market, we have such a wide range of clients for our designs.

How would you define fashion?

I will answer this by quoting Ralph Lauren: "Fashion is about something that comes from within you." I think fashion is an expression of oneself. You use fashion to express emotions, feelings, a lifestyle. It represents life, making us feel empowered and confident. It has the power to change perceptions, making people more interesting, alive and present. Fashion can be so many things: art, functionality, expression. It is also very personal, real and raw. It can make you powerful, beautiful and in control.


How would you describe your style? I strive to wear timeless pieces. During the day, I opt for high-waisted jeans or classic trousers with a classic long-sleeved silk shirt. For evening, I opt for uncluttered and sophisticated styles, usually centred around classic and elegant pieces. Classic elegance is key to any wardrobe. Furthermore, I like modest fashion. Long sleeves, high necks and calf-length skirts are predominant in my wardrobe.

Where do you get the inspiration for your designs?

From various cultures, but mostly from Indian and Middle Eastern cultures.

Your plans for the future?

My dream is to open my store in London and expand the brand to the European and Asian markets. We are also looking to start a pret-aporter line shortly.

For my health, I ensure I sleep eight hours a day and exercise at least three times a week. On a personal note, I don't eat meat.

Favourite brands? I love Chanel, Ralph and Russo and Valentino.

Favourite snack? Tomatoes and mangosteens. Favourite music? The soundtrack from The Greatest Showman.

Favourite movie? Mulan, I watch it every year

since I was 11.

What advice would you give to young fashion designers? In this competitive market, being a fashion designer and owning your brand is not easy. It is essential to learn more about the business side of fashion. Before starting your brand, be prepared and clear about your strategy, brand vision and business plan. Passion and patience are critical in this industry. My advice for budding fashion designers is to take one year for planning, research the market, get the right suppliers, and research various distribution channels. Furthermore, work for an established company to get an idea of how the business works. And staying true to yourself in your creations is essential as doing what truly makes you happy will keep you motivated.

Your motto in life? Winston Churchill said: "Never give up on something that you can't go a day without thinking about."

Fatimah, an Afghan woman born in Tehran, Iran, is a strong advocate of women empowerment and has often been moved to tears during and after photoshoots that seek to reveal the beauty, grace and resolution of Afghan women. While acknowledging the pain she feels for so many Afghan sisters, she is working on several projects that seek to elevate women. " I have learned that patience is so important in life, and everything comes with patience," she adds defiantly.

Please introduce yourself. I am an Afghan artist, founder of 064 Mastooraat Art Organization, a lecturer at Kabul University and a photographer who shares her time between Kabul and Tehran. Tell us about your education. I have a Bachelor in Industrial Engineering and one in Photography from the University of Tehran. What was it like growing up in Iran? Iran is like home to me, and sometimes I feel half-Iranian because I was born there and an essential part of my life was there. I owe my professional artistic path to Iran's art atmosphere. When did you decide to become a photographer, what triggered that decision? I used to paint when I was 14. I was so passionate about art, but then I found myself in mathematical and engineering courses. Gradually, I felt frustrated because deep down, I was an artist. I realized I had to pursue my education in art. I decided to get another Bachelor in Art, and am glad I had the opportunity to study at the University of Tehran, one of Asia's best, to continue art professionally and academically.

065 Why do you focus on Afghanistan in your work? Afghanistan is my country. My nationality is Afghan, so I belong to Afghanistan, although I was born in Tehran. Also, we have so many untold stories in our country that I believe it's the younger generation's responsibility to tell them to the world. I want to show the untold stories of Afghanistan and Afghan women through my artwork. What message do you try to deliver through your work? Identity, gender and migration are three fundamentals of my work. But overall, my message is to show hope and the bright side of a topic. I rarely choose to work on dark themes. You can see these three different topics were the reasons and my challenges for my works. How did you get interested in visual arts? I love images and have a stronger connection with them. However, I appreciate art in any way that it comes, but I think images have a more profound impact than spoken words. That is why I chose photography and painting in visual arts. January, 2020

You are versatile in what you do, how would you best describe yourself? Honestly, I made many wrong decisions and went through lots of challenges when I was a teenager. I had so much energy, and sometimes I was so excited to do so many things, but I gradually learned that patience is so important in life, and everything comes with patience. describe it this way: a super excited girl that had so many challenges in life because of her nationality and because she came from an Afghan migrant family living in Iran. Still, I never gave up, broke taboos and ignored the stereotypes to become a strong figure. Where has your work been displayed? I have attended different art fairs, festivals and had so many exhibitions in countries such as Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, China, South Korea, Japan, India, Malaysia, Turkey, USA, France, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, Netherlands, Italy, Albania and many more. Where else would you like to see your work displayed? Having solo exhibitions in New York, London and France are my next plans. These are the most important places in art history.


Which artists have had an influence in shaping who you are as a photographer? So many artists inspire me and have influenced my artistic career and instincts. I find my works resonate with those of Jeff Wall, Lara Jade, Romina Ressia, Adam Ferguson, Azade Akhlaqi, Shirin Neshat, and Shadi Qadirian. What equipment do you use? I believe equipment should not play the main role in an artist's work. Although a photographer with professional equipment can do a better job and take photos with high-quality resolutions, it's the artistic sense and instincts of an artist that gives the best works. As I do staged photography, I have a house studio in Tehran with a complete light package. I mostly use Canon and Sony cameras for my shoots. What or who inspires you? Everything can inspire an artist, and everything can be a subject for a photographer. However, strong women and the beauty of this world inspire me more. And my father is always encouraging me to do more and more. What challenges do you face in your work? There are so many challenges for a woman artist in this world. I thought I had gone through a lot as a beginner, but when I moved to Kabul, I accepted I might have so many more. Society, traditions, media, and finding a safe location,

discussing with the models, all of these are challenging for me as an Afghan woman artist in Afghanistan. What is the most moving picture from a series that you have taken? Mostly, I try to understand my models, feel the atmosphere and then take my photos. The central concept of my work focuses on the brighter side of a subject. When I was shooting for Khurasani Reflections, a collection which shows the beauty of Afghan women, I felt their beauty, and it reminded me how difficult and cruel that Afghan women's beauty is always hidden. Also, when I did some documentary photos for different projects and assignments, travelling to different provinces and seeing the situation of women there, it hurt me so many times. I feel so much in pain when I see how many Afghan women are faced with difficulties. It occurred to me sometimes that I cried during or after a photoshoot. Being a woman in Afghanistan is never easy, and when it comes with art and you're an Afghan woman artist, the challenges double. What is your biggest achievement so far? I can't talk about one specific achievement because I took my artistic path step by step. In every step, I had a goal, and it was an achievement for me. So, I think there are still so many things to learn and so many accomplishments to achieve. Tell us about your upcoming projects? I am working on my new organization Mastooraat, working on women empowerment and art in Afghanistan. I want to release my first photobook in 2020, and am working on new collections in different provinces of Afghanistan. Do you have a 'dream project'? Definitely. Every artist and photographer have so many dreams. At this stage, I wish to visit Wakhan one day and take photos of the people there. Another dreamy one is to have a staged photography collection in the South Pole with a group of girls. What are your hobbies? Most of the time, I find myself busy with photography, assignments, travelling, teaching and this kind of lifestyle. I try to read books in my free time, watch movies, listen to music or stroll through the virtual pages of photographers and artists. A few words for CiiN magazine. My collections is available at Recherche Gallery in Riyadh and Regard fashion house in LA. 1820s -1830s Once Upon a Time Collection - What is your main inspiration when you create the collection? In my third collection 'Once Upon a Time' I’ve been focusing in the femininity, glamour, elegant and rich look of 1820’s to 1830’s. What do you think about Saudi fashion in these days for 2020? In my opinion I think Saudi fashion in 2020 starts to be the most important country that is interested in fashion. Types of fabric...What is your favorite fabric with which you like to work? My favorite fabrics are silk and chiffon because they are very delicate and not easy to work with, but I do like tough things. How often you go for shopping? and where? Actually, a lot. My favorite place to go for shopping is Paris. Can you share with our readers your fashion future plans ? I’ve been working on ready to wear and probably going to launch towards the end of February. Also, I’ll be in March Arab fashion week and in Dubai to launch my 2020 couture collection.

Nina Runsdorf Takes Us to the Romantic French Countryside with Her Les Jardins SS20 Collection For Spring/Summer 2020, Nina Runsdorf takes us for a stroll through the fields of wildflowers and lavender in the French countryside. Her new creations are lifted by bright contrasting colours, with her use of sapphires, iolites, emeralds, tanzanites, pink topazes and pops of verdant enamel, like a garden of earthly delights. Shades of lavender add a calming power throughout the collection, found on tanzanite rings and earrings as well as on carved lavender jade earrings with stunning Slice Diamond tops. Deep blue, pink and purple sapphires appear on briolette fringe rings and sphere cocktail rings rounding out this color infused collection. Runsdorf offers a fresh seasonal take on her Artist Collection, which beams with splashes of color in pear shaped rose quartz and acid green enamel in three sizes of rings and hoops.

Hailing from Kuwait and educated from the Slovak Republic, Dr. Mashael is on a mission to educate the general public on adopting a healthier lifestyle that includes a better diet and highlighting the importance of more physical exercise.

Tell us about your education. I graduated in 2006 with a General Medicine Bachelor degree in the Slovak Republic.

‫‏‬How and when did you get interested in the medical field?

As a child, I've always loved playing as a doctor and the idea of treating people. My mother had a dream of being a doctor, so I set out to fulfill her dream. I have now been practising 13 years.

‫‏‬What is the biggest misconception about your field?

Some patients lack respect for fellow doctors, nurses and the profession. They prefer being treated in private clinics or abroad instead of in governmental institutions. Some refuse to commit to doctors' suggestions for treatment.

What are your plans? To spread awareness among the population about adopting a healthier lifestyle, healthy diet, the importance of physical activity, and to control chronic diseases.

What's your personal style, and what do you do to keep in shape?


I do my best to have a healthy lifestyle and diet. I exercise five days a week for at least an hour, drink two litres of water per day, and eat healthy food full of fibre, vegetables and fruits.

‫‏‬What is your beauty regime?

I have a deep facial clean once a month in a dermaclinic. I make sure I clean my face of make-up before bed, and I usually scrub my face and body once or twice a week and use high hydrating creams for my skin. I also apply a face mask twice a week.

Favourite quote: "Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough," Oprah Winfrey.

Favourite movie: Papillon. Favourite food: Steaks and salads. Favourite travel destination: Mykonos. What are your hobbies? Writing poetry, shopping, and listening to music.

And having a love all things snow, it's no surprise her favourite food happens to be ice cream!

Tell us more about yourself. I am Margarita, and I've been living in Dubai for about nine years. I work in real estate, but I'm passionate about modelling and acting. I am always trying to find more time and opportunities in these fields.

Where were you educated?


I grew up and went to school in Turkmenistan, while also studying violin for seven years. After I graduated high school, I moved to Dubai to study a Diploma in Management.

What were your favourite childhood memories? The best memories revolved around winter and snow. I always loved the snowy days because they were rare in my country. So when we had enough snow to build a snowman, it was so much fun and days that I'll never forget! I also remember the day we got our first dog, a Cocker Spaniel. I was initially terrified at the idea of taking care of it, but at the same time, I was drawn to this little dog and was so thankful my parents let us have her. She was a great addition to our family.

When did you know you wanted to become an actress/model? As young as five years old, I started wanting to be on TV. I would watch movies and see the actresses, and I wanted to be just like them. As I grew older, I went to music school because I loved singing and music in general. In school, I'd always get the main character in the play. It truly is my passion that has stayed with me until today. My interest in modelling started when I moved to Dubai and began having opportunities in shooting TV commercials.

What came first modelling or acting? Acting came first when I moved to Dubai. I got

my first acting job for Zahra Hospital. My role was as a young mother that had just had a baby. It was incredible being in front of the cameras, and I knew then that I wanted to take acting and modelling seriously, and pursue a career.

What issues have you faced on the way to becoming a successful actress/model? I think the biggest issue is my height. You don't technically need to be six feet for acting, but in modelling agencies, you usually need to be. Clients looking to hire usually browse through the "Model" section first within the agency, and since I am under six feet, I am under the "Lifestyle" category. So my height can be a disadvantage, and I might not be discovered.

What do you enjoy the most? Whether it's for a photoshoot or TV, modelling or acting, I love being in front of the camera.

What are the misconceptions about being an actress/model? People assume you have to do things you don't want to do to please the client or agency to reach your goals and grow your career. I've stuck to my standards, and it has suited me well.

What has been your biggest accomplishment so far? Being hired for a MAC Cosmetics campaign. It was such an amazing experience working for such a large, well-known brand.

Who are your role models, and why? I don't have a specific role model. I think every human is unique in their own way. In my perspective, having a role model can be like copying the other person, and I prefer figuring

out my style and brand based on things I enjoy. Two versatile actresses I look up to for their ability to play many different roles are Anne Hathaway and Margot Robbie.

What values are most important to you?


When it comes to acting/modelling, I highly value sticking to my standards and not lowering them to book a job. Also, the values I hold in my personal life are my spiritual beliefs as a Christian. Being a Christian is the core of my standards.

How would you describe your style? For clothing, I enjoy choosing pieces that include soft colours but with an edge. I like to think outside the box and select statement pieces that most people might look over in the store. Plus, I enjoy styling, it's a creative outlet for me.

What are your plans for the future? I hope in the next five years to do modelling/ acting full time. I'd love to land a leading role in a TV series or movie.

Favourite snack? I love ice cream! It is always my forever love.

Favourite music? Depending on my mood, I like many types of music. If I am feeling joyful, I want to listen to Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, or Justin Bieber. To read or relax, I'll listen to a violin or piano classical music. If I need to feel peaceful, I will listen to Christian worship music.

All-time favourite movie, and why? I can't choose just one - there are so many good ones! I loved Notebook, About Time, The Vow, Theory of Everything, Catch Me If You Can, The Impossible and The Imitation Game. I am drawn to romantic movies and movies based on true stories/events.

Your motto in life? "Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things." 1 Corinthians 13:7.

Three things that make you happy?

Do you have a secret talent?

I love being chosen for an acting part that I worked hard for; when friends do thoughtful things for me, like bringing me coffee, and I love any time I am around animals.

Not many people know I play the violin.

Do you have any tricks or routines to staying happy and healthy?

You need to have lots of patience, whether that is in growing your career, or simply being on a shoot. Anything worth having and keeping takes a lot of time and effort.

It's not a trick, but my belief in God has given me the ability to find joy in all circumstances, no matter the situation, good or bad. I also make sure I fuel my body well by eating the right foods and lots of water. It sounds simple because it is!

Favourite brands? I adore Chanel and Tiffany as they are classics, but you'll probably find me in Zara most times.

What did you learn about the industry to share with aspiring actors/models?

The Montreal FinTech Station Fertile grounds for innovation at Place Ville-Marie


Place Ville Marie in Montreal recently welcomed the Montreal FinTech Station, a new coworking space dedicated to start-ups of the finance tech industry. Through a competition of ideas process, orchestrated by Finance Montreal and Ivanhoe Cambridge, the design of the new FinTech Station was entrusted to the firm VAD Designers d'espaces. The design concept translates into a modern and high-tech space where collaboration between individuals is facilitated, and human connections are fostered. Inaugurated in December, the FinTech Station is already experiencing significant enthusiasm. Nearly 20 start-up companies have settled in and spread out accross the Station's two (2) storeys, which total up to approximatively 25,000 square feet.

At the Montreal FinTech Station, a total of 144 workstations are available, all of which benefit from a variety of amenities on premises. A shared reception service greets visitors walking in, and offers administrative assistance. Start-ups have the option of renting individual workstations located in a shared open space, as well as closed offices for companies with 4 to 10 staff members who desire more privacy. The tenants benefit from the many services offered at the Station. Among these are professional and technological services, training and coaching, networking activities, events and support in business growth. A variety of meeting rooms and communal areas are also available, as well as a large cafeteria, which doubles as an event venue, lounges and a second auxiliary kitchen which serves free specialty coffee.

The Vision For the Montreal FinTech Station, VAD imagined an immersive, stimulating, and comfortable environment, where different but complementary forces are brought together to work in collaboration and build upon new connections. The original lead for the idea competition was to draw upon the contrast between virtuality and reality which are integral to the core concept of the FinTech Station. In a context where technology occupies a preponderant role in our work environments, the design proposed for the FinTech Station aimed at transcending the trend towards hyperconnectivity. By incorporating natural and eclectic textures, as well as noble materials and finishes, the workspace achieves a warmer feel. The design links to nature through volumes and ambiances. Custom-built modules, such as integrated woodwork add relief and mimic natural plateaus and elevations found in terrain. Vast open spaces flooded with daylight and greenery promote wellness and help the spirit of community to come to life naturally. Entering into the FinTech Station, visitors are greeted into a bright and swarming hub of activity. The vast open-plan acts as both a reception and a flexible social space, conducive to spontaneous team-work, holding meetings, larger assemblies or some of FinTech Station’s networking events.


The master staircase joining the two levels was one of the starting points for the design concept. A metallic structure mirrors the descending stairs, giving the illusion of an ascension towards a green upper landing - a symbol of growth. Around the raised podium, the space unfolds to a bouncy rhythm of yellow and earth tones. The furniture is airy and comfortable, reinforcing the desire to create a living environment conducive to atypical hours: an atmosphere inspired by the "resimercial" current.

Wellness At the Montreal FinTech Station, the well-being of the occupants is a central preoccupation. The design was developed with the principles of the WELL certification in mind. The concern for biophilia, local procurement of materials and furnishings as well as of local trade, attention to ergonomics, the promotion of physical activity and access to natural light are among the strategies deployed to meet the well-being objectives of the project. From the start, the Montreal FinTech Station announced its intention to acquire an art collection to be integrated into the space. The art agency MASSIVart joined the project, proposing interactive, digital, photographic and sculptural artworks all by emerging Quebec and Canadian artists. The design and construction of the FinTech Station were successfully completed within the predicted schedule and the announced budget. With the support of IvanhoÊ Cambridge, the construction contractor P + R Desjardins and the collaboration of all the project stakeholders, the Montreal FinTech Station materialized in just 14 weeks, despite the complexity of the access to the work site in the context of major simultaneous projects surrounding the building. In the heart of the business district, at Place Ville-Marie, the new FinTech Station becomes an important ally for Montreal’s finance industry. Accessible and intuitive, the workspace is designed as second nature for the user, offering a clever combination of work areas, spaces for leisure and gatherings, perfectly suited to build new connections. Lounges, phone booths, shelters, meeting rooms or collaborative lounges: users can choose to work in the context that suits them best. The design proposed by VAD embodies a strong identity and a distinctive architecture, making the Montreal FinTech Station a landmark of the FinTech ecosystem. January, 2020



The E-talian Job

Escape from everyday life the sustainable way in the new MINI Cooper SE Classic city traffic was yesterday, today we have urban driving fun which is soon to be electric in unmistakable MINI style. The new MINI Cooper SE (combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; combined power consumption: 16.8 – 14.8 kWh/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 0 g/km) will go on the road in spring 2020. In the run-up to the market launch of the first all-electric production model in the 60-year history of the British brand, MINI is now presenting another video clip which illustrates the benefits of locally emissions-free mobility. In the short film "The Getaway Car", which can be seen on the BMW Group social media channels, the new MINI Cooper SE proves to be the ideal escape vehicle from everyday city traffic. The clip is set in the northern Italian metropolis of Turin - as always with the typical MINI tongue-in-cheek style. The driver of the new MINI Cooper SE escapes the nerve-racking traffic jams of rush hour traffic by making a detour through narrow side streets leading him directly to the roof of the Lingotto building in the district of the same name on the Via Nizza. The historic industrial complex was once the largest production site of an Italian automobile manufacturer - including a test track on the roof, which was laid out as a circuit and is about one kilometre long. Today the Lingotto building houses, among other things, a shopping centre and hotels. The test track on the roof, however, remained intact even after the conversion. It is here that the new MINI Cooper SE meets a red classic Mini Cooper making its rounds on the historic track, reminiscent of a legendary scene from the 1969 movie classic “The Italian Job”. In the crime comedy, three classic Mini Coopers play the

leading roles - alongside British actor Michael Caine - as escape vehicles after a spectacular gold theft. The highlight is a wild chase through Turin, which also leads to the roof of the Lingotto building. In the 2003 Hollywood edition, "The Italian Job" was moved to Los Angeles. Three modern MINIs were used to transport the loot, and a breathtaking escape was, of course, once again in the script. In 2019, the coup of the gold robbers becomes “The E-talian Job”. Locally emission-free and almost noiseless, the electrically powered MINI eludes the hassle of everyday traffic in order to discover the perfect place for a round of driving fun in the middle of the city of Turin. Its 135 kW/184 hp electric motor is a real thriller with its spontaneous power delivery. The high-voltage battery located deep in the underbody shifts the vehicle’s centre of gravity down considerably. And the hallmark suspension set-up also contributes to the fact that electric mobility goes hand in hand with the typical MINI gokart feeling for the first time - and not just on the roof of the famous Lingotto building. Unfolding across 160 acres of Northern Thailand’s ancient jungle, Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort is perched on a hill overlooking the Mekong and Ruak rivers. The foundation also built the world’s only facility to scientifically research elephant intelligence and behaviour and runs the world’s only program to teach scientific Positive Reinforcement training methods to traditional mahouts. It costs approximately USD 18,000 to look after a single elephant for a year.
