Tree-lighting ceremony at Ingleside Carolyn Thompson Goddard Record Contributor SOUTH STORMONT – Children of all ages gathered to greet Santa and see the Christmas tree lights turned on at the Fire Station in Ingleside in the early evening of Dec. 3. Santa’s arrival on a wagon drawn by Thunder and Spice from Reid Acres Percherons was followed shortly by the illumination of the gigantic on-site Christmas just outside the fire station. Santa then made his way inside to spend some time listening to last-minute requests for

Christmas gifts. The event, which has been running for just over 15 years in this community, provides an opportunity to visit with Santa, take a ride on a horse wagon, enjoy some hot chocolate and cookies or just visit with friends and neighbours. Leighton Woods, who with other members of the Ingleside Firefighters Association organized this family event, wished to thank the sponsors Farran Footwear, Dave Duprau, Seasonal Plus Inc, South Stormont Chamber of Commerce and Josh, Patsy

and Martin Timmers of Foodland in Ingleside for their donations to the organization. People were also encouraged to bring donations for the Osnabruck Food Drive to the event. South Stormont Mayor Jim Bancroft commented on the support from community volunteers and groups as well as township staff and council who work together to make this start to the holiday season happen before wishing all a “Merry Christmas” as well as a “Happy and prosperous 2017”.

Craft Show at Tagwi School Carolyn Thompson Goddard Record Contributor AVONMORE – Hundreds of people attended the annual Avonmore Christmas Art, Craft and Bake Sale at Tagwi Secondary School on Dec. 3 and 4. Running for at least 20 years, this sale is a fundraiser for the Roxborough Agricultural Society. One of the many event organizers, Valerie Tinkess, commented that people were waiting for the doors to open Saturday morning. Society President Neil Robinson mentioned 88 vendors were at the event on Saturday with 76 scheduled for Sunday. Included in the event were crafters of many fine products, including knitting, crocheting, origami ornaments and leaf art. Alexandria artist Jenny McDonald, inspired by the beauty of tree leaves, described a process whereby a leaf is transformed into a work of art with the aid of a sharp knife and a creative mind. Roxborough Agricultural Society, which organizes the Avonmore Fair, will be holding their annual general meeting on Jan. 27 at North Stormont Place with a pot luck dessert event beginning at 8 p.m. Robinson extended a welcome to the public to attend the meeting.
