Panthers double Volant Jeff Moore Record Staff EMBRUN — The Embrun Panthers had just a single game this past weekend as they welcomed the Gatineau Hull-Volant on Friday night. Panthers 8 Volant 4 The Embrun Panthers welcomed the Gatineau Hull Volant to the Palais des Sports on Fri., Dec. 2, in the NCJHL. The Panthers went into the game in first place with 25 points and led the Cumberland Bandits in second by five points. The Panthers were also coming off a weekend where they picked up three of a possible four points with a win and a tie.

The Panthers also signed goalie Reilly Tondreau who began the year with the Prescott Flyers of the CCHL2. The Panthers opened the scoring just 2:13 into the first period when Josh Renaud fired one home from Michael Cogan and Justin Raymond to take a 1-0 lead. The Volant answered with two goals at 6:45 and 9:43 and took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. The Panthers tied the game at 7:25 of the second period as Renaud sniped his second of the game from Mikael Gibeault but the Volant answered at 15:19 to retake the lead. The Panthers tied the

game at three when Michael Cogan scored from Raymond and Tyler Jodoin with just 1:11 remaining in the middle frame. The teams took a three-all draw into the second intermission. The Panthers retook the lead at 2:11 as Cody Lavictoire found the back of the net from Nathan Bols. The Panthers took a two-goal lead when Michael Cogan scored his second of the game at 6:25 from Lavictoire and Daniel Cogan on the power play. Sr. Ravens Boys’ Basketball calm Cyclones Jeff Moore Record Staff RUSSELL — The St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School Ravens Senior Boys’ Basketball team welcomed the École secondaire catholique Embrun Cyclones on Wed., Nov. 30, in the PRSSAA. The Ravens were looking for their second win in as many games after beating the St. Francis Xavier Catholic School Falcons 60-57 the previous week. The Ravens have a very strong team this season and they showed it, dropping eight first-quarter points on the Cyclones and holding them to just one bucket. The Ravens added another 13 points in the second quarter and allowed the Cyclones to score seven points taking a 21-9 lead into the dressing room at the half. The Cyclones managed a bit of a push back in the third quarter but the Ravens still outscored them 9-7 and took a 30-16 lead into the fourth quarter. The Ravens dominated the fourth quarter led by Trent Thompson as he threw down 12 points alone, outscoring the Cyclones 16-7. The Ravens took their second consecutive game with a 46-23 victory. Jr. Ravens Boys’ Basketball team drops home opener Jeff Moore Record Staff RUSSELL — The St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School Ravens Junior Boys’ Basketball team welcomed the École secondaire catholique Embrun Cyclones on Wed., Nov. 30, in the PRSSAA. The Ravens were looking for their first win of the season in their home opener. The Ravens got off to a good start and led for most of the first quarter but the Cyclones tied it late at 11. The Cyclones dominated the second quarter knocking down 17 points and holding the Ravens to just four. The Cyclones took a 28-15 lead into the dressing room at halftime. The Ravens put up a good fight in the third quarter defensively only allowing the Cyclones eight points but their offence only mustered seven and they trailed 36-22 heading into the final quarter. The Cyclones dominated the fourth quarter just like they did in the second quarter throwing down 15 points and holding the Ravens to just a single as they took the game 51-23 handing the Ravens their second loss of the season. Jets shoot down Hawks Jeff Moore Record Staff WINCHESTER — The Winchester Hawks had two home games this past weekend as they welcomed the Arnprior Packers on Friday night and the Metcalfe Jets on Saturday afternoon. Jets 7 Hawks 1 The Winchester Hawks welcomed the Metcalfe Jets to the Joel Steele Community Centre on Sat., Dec. 3, in the CCHL2. The Hawks celebrated minor hockey day with the little ones prior to the game with games and a meet and greet with their favourite Hawks players. They even had hockey cards made up and the players on hand signed them. There was also an IP Timbits game inbetween the first and second period. The Hawks were looking to get back in the winning column after losing to the Arnprior Packers the previous night but they managed to hang on to the fifth seed in the Martin Division. The Jets have been consistently good all season and sat in third place six points ahead of the Hawks. The Jets opened the scoring just 21 seconds into the first period as Marc Brosseau scored from Tristan Whynot and Josig Rochon. The Jets made it 2-0 at 12:37 as Noah Haymes scored from Justin Gagnon and Rochon and took that lead into the dressing room in the first intermission. The Jets made it 3-0 just 2:20 into the second period as Eric Turner scored from Rochon and Nick Rowan. The Hawks answered with a goal at 17:28 as Diego Gagnon slipped one home from Tyler Newell and Christophe Lemay. The Jets took a 3-1 lead into the second intermission. It was all Jets in the third period as they added four more goals at 6:31 by Brosseau, 7:48 by Turner on a power play, 11:31 by Jared Patterson on another power play and at 17:32 by Justin Gagnon and took the game 7-1. Picking up the helpers for the Jets were Rochon (2), Turner (2), Sam Tremblay, Andrew Burke and Dylan MacDonald. Picking up the win in the Jets’ goal was Kyle Charette making 26 saves on 27 shots and suffering the loss in the Hawks’ goal was Kevan Dumouchel making 41 saves on 48 shots. Packers 6 Hawks 2 The Winchester Hawks welcomed the Arnprior Packers to the Joel Steele Community Centre on Fri., Dec. 2, in the CCHL2. The Hawks went into the game in fifth place one point ahead of the Alexandria Glens in fifth and one point behind the Clarence beavers for fourth in the Martin Division. The Packers went into the game in third place just two points behind the Perth Blue Wings for second and 12 points ahead of the Athens Aeros in fourth. The Hawks made a couple of roster moves prior to their game at the league’s imposed deadline to get down to 25 signed players, as they picked up Kurtis Keohane from the Renfrew Timberwolves and Austin Gough from

The Hawks signed free agent Kurtis Koehane (8) from the Renfrew Timberwolves. Koehane scored 17 goals and seven assists for 24 points in 22 games with the Timberwolves this season and the Hawks will look to him for scoring. The Hawks dropped the decision 6-2 to the Packers and Koehane was held off of the score sheet. The Packers opened the scoring at 13:13 of the first period on a power play to take a 1-0 lead. The Packers took a 2-0 lead at 17:06 and carried that lead into the first intermission. The Packers made it 3-0 just 35 seconds into the second period and 4-0 at 4:16 before the Hawks finally got on the board at 6:02 as Evan Landry let one fly from the point from Nicholas Raponi De Roia. The Packers added two more goals at 7:46 and with 1:53 remaining in the middle frame and took a 6-1 lead into the second intermission. The Hawks scored the lone goal of the third period as Jonathan Dutrisac slapped one home from Christophe Lemay and Diego Gagnon at 9:29. That was as close as the Hawks could get as they suffered a 6-2 loss allowing the Packers to move into a second place tie with the Blue Wings in the Richardson Division. Suffering the loss in the Hawks’ goal was Kevan Dumouchel making 14 saves on 18 shots and was replaced by Conor Lahey after the fourth goal. Lahey made 24 saves on 26 shots. Up next The Winchester Hawks travel to the Barbara Ann Scott Arena in Ottawa to take on the Ottawa West Golden Knights on Thurs., Dec. 8, at 7:15 p.m. The Hawks then welcome the Alexandria Glens to the Joel Steele Community Centre on Fri., Dec. 9, at 8:15 p.m. and then travel to Metcalfe on Sun., Dec. 11, to take on the Jets at 2:15 p.m.
