Oh the places you will go... ...on the Mills shuttle

University of Calif. Berkeley, Corner of Bancroft Way and Telegraph Avenue: Here are suggestions of places to visit while riding along in the new larger Mills Shuttle. This guide offers a variety of places to visit in the Bay Area from the Laurel District to Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley. Spend an evening at the Piedmont Theatre off of the Kaiser stop, or grab a slice at Zachary’s Pizza in Rockridge. Know any other great stops? Be sure to let us know! Laurel District, MacArthur Boulevard:

Oakland Community Farmers Market: Open Saturdays all year from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. it is maintained by the Oakland Food Connection and sells organic food from the J and P Organic Farm in Salinas, CA. Address: 4173 MacArthur Blvd.

Kaiser Permanente, Howe Street:

Hospital: Remember to let your shuttle driver know if you need to make a visit to the Medical Center for emergencies or even a doctor’s visit. Students do not need Kaiser Permanente insurance to visit, but should try to make an appointment beforehand. Address: 3801 Howe St.

Piedmont Theatre: For the classic moviegoers seeking to see cheap flicks with showings from the silent film era to the studio era including the Star Wars Trilogy. Saturday nights are also prize nights with raffles of film souvenirs. The theatre is currently showing (500) Days of Summer, Julie & Julia, and Taking Woodstock. There are discounted shows at $8 before 6 p.m. Students can visit Oakland’s oldest operating movie theatre since 1917 by taking the AC Transbay-C towards Highland at 41 Street and Piedmont, and get off at Linda Avenue.

Lucky: A close-by grocery store for all your necessities. Look for the Weekly Ad on Sundays for price specials and coupons.

Places to Eat: Café of the Bay, Razzo’s, Quarter Pound Giant Burger

Caffè Strada: Great coffee with pastries to accompany your study session sitting outside watching the hustle and bustle that is UC Berkeley.

Caffe Trieste: Before heading to the movies, students can stop by for Italian espresso and lattès, and occasionally live music.

Fenton’s Creamery: For huge sundays or by-the-scoop, delicious ice cream at a famous Oakland landmark. Address: 4226 Piedmont Ave.

Hooper’s Chocolates: About a 15 minute walk from the station, this pink themed shop sells tons of gourmet chocolates and cupcakes with discounts for Mills Students. Address: 4632 Telegraph Ave.

See Jane Run: Trial and/or marathon runners can come here for a great selection of athletic shoes and apparel. See Jane Run is a woman-owned and operated company. Address: 5817 College Ave.

Trader Joes: College Avenue’s ‘Friendly Neighborhood Grocery Store’ is only a short walk away from Rockridge BART. With delicious foods and organic produce this should meet every student’s needs. Address: 5727 College Ave.

Bittersweet, The Chocolate Café: One word - chocolate - and this shop is the place to be for a variety of chocolate from around the world. With delicious beverages (you should try the White Chocolate Cream) this cozy spot makes a perfect spot to relax and even study after a long day of shopping on College Avenue. Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive: Mills students can get tickets for the gallery at $5 to view current exhibitions including “Material Witness” by Francisco Goya and other artists. Students can also view film series for $6.50. Address: 2626 Bancroft Way

Blondie’s Pizza: Walk down Telegraph Avenue to grab a slice at this popular hangout with daily specials at great prices. Address: 2340 Telegraph Ave.
