For the first time in nearly a century the price of a stamp has gone down. On April 10, the price of a first class stamp dropped to 47 cents, down from 49 cents. The cost of other mailing products and services were reduced as well, benefiting The Calmark Group’s clients.

as the percentage of decreases varies between postage tiers. For example, a letter size piece sort to the automation 5 digit local entry tier will decrease by 5.9% whereas the automation 3 digit sort decreases only 3.4%. So your average will depend on which postage tiers dominate in your mailings.

This reduction is a result of the removal of the 4.3% exigent price increase granted by the Postal Rate Commission (PRC). This action allowed the USPS to recover $4.6 billion lost during the great recession. The price increase was set to last only two years. This mandatory action will worsen the

Here is a brief description of the promotions being offered this year. Remember many promotions require the respondent to be directed to a mobile optimized website. If you don’t presently have one now may be the time to explore offering one, as the USPS will continue to offer similar incentives over the coming years. The USPS continues to encourage mailers to integrate direct mail with mobile technology and now, with video/print technology. Mailers can earn an upfront 2% postage discount on mailpieces. Registration runs January 15 through August 31, 2016.


March 1 – August 31, 2016 This year’s promotion focuses solely on advancements in paper, ink and interactive mailpiece elements that provide marketers exciting new ways to enhance customer engagement opportunities. This promotion provides mailers with the opportunity to earn an upfront 2% postage discount by incorporating these features. Registration runs


July 1 – December 31, 2016 This promotion provides mailers with the opportunity to earn an upfront 2% postage discount by integrating mobile technology with direct mail. Nonprofit mailers may qualify for this promotion provided a hard copy acknowledgement is sent to the donor. Registration runs May 15 through December 31, 2016.

USPS reduces postal rates
