Bluff Update June 2014

Since The Bluff Church began in 2010, we have stressed the importance of being involved in serving our community. We have used several different avenues to carry this mission out. From doing 5th Sunday projects to our recent Second Saturday emphases, serving our community has truly been a part of our DNA as a church. Now we are going to serve in a new way with a project called For The City. For The City, is our church-wide community service project and it is coming up in a little over a week on Saturday, June 14. This day of projects has been in the planning stages for several months now and a team of volunteers have been working to get all the projects ready for that day. They have come up with 10 different projects that we hope everyone in the church will participate in on the 14th. Here are the projects and the time the teams will gather at the Holiday Inn: • Home Repair • Bacon Park clean-up

9:00 AM 9:00 AM

• • • • • • •

Bread Shed 9:15 AM Yard Work 9:30 AM Haven House (painting) 9:30 AM Nursing Home (Mark Twain) 9:30 AM Hospital (goodie bags) 9:30 AM Basketball court repair 11:00 AM Nursing Home (The Manor) 1:30 PM

This Sunday there will be sign-up sheets for each project in the lobby. Most all of these projects are familyfriendly, so we highly encourage the entire family to be a part of For The City. Parents, what a great way to teach your children about the value of serving others, as you work along side them in one of these projects. We hope that everyone will join in and together we can show Poplar Bluff that Jesus loves them as we serve our community.

The hospital ministry team in the For The City project will be putting baskets together for patients. They need everyone’s help in collecting needed items. Here are the items they need: • • • • • • • • • • • •

Shampoo (travel size) Conditioner (travel size) Lotion (travel size) Disposable Razors Shaving cream (travel size) Plain white t-shirts (all sizes) Pajamas pants (all sizes) Tennis Shoes Blankets/Throws Crossword puzzles/sudoku Large print books/reading materials Adult size clothing

This Sunday, June 8, will be the last day to bring these items.

Beginning Sunday, June 15, BluffKids will be taking a few weeks off this Summer. We will use this time to retool and get ready for the Fall. With the departure of Kayla Turner from our staff, we will be looking at all aspects of our BluffKids ministry and seeing how we can make it even better when we re-launch in August. We will have a listening meeting on Sunday, June 22, immediately following the worship service. The purpose of this meeting will be to listen to what ideas and thoughts you have about how we can make BlufKids even more effective and fun for our children. Everyone is welcome to attend, especially parents of kids in this age group (K-4th grade).

Please pray for our financial needs. Amazon Smile Online Giving Our online giving option has changed recently. If you have used the online option in the past you will notice that as of June 1, we are using a different service provider for this service.

If you are an online shopper and use amazon.com, we are now participating in the Amazon Smile program. This program allows non-profit organizations, such as churches to receive a small percentage of a customer’s purchase as a charitable donation.

Changing online giving providers will save the church a significant amount of money in service fees. The new provider allows us to offer similar service and save on the merchant fees often associated with taking debit/credit cards.

In order to participate you have to go to smile.amazon.com and login with your Amazon username and password. In the search box type in “Bluff Church” (they left the “The” off. Hopefully that will be corrected soon.) From the list choose “Bluff Church”as your charity.

If you have not been aware of the online giving option or have not used it before, you can take a look at it on our website, thebluffchurch.com. The “give online” button can be accessed at the bottom of any page on the site.

After initially choosing our church, if you will go to Amazon through the smile. amazon.com portal, our church should automatically show up at the top of the Amazon page saying “Supporting: Bluff Church”. We hope you’ll give this a try on your next purchase on Amazon.
