ENCOURAGEMENT I Am Encouraged After the reading of the Law and the Prophets, the leaders [of the worship] of the synagogue sent to them saying, Brethren, if you have any word of exhortation or consolation or encouragement for the people, say it. Acts 13:15 (Amplified Bible) Everyone needs encouragement from time to time. Encouragement means 1: the act of making something more appealing or more likely to happen 2 a: something that makes someone more determined, hopeful, or confident b: something that makes someone more likely to do something. Thanks!

Marco Castro What a blessing and inspiration. Thank you for sharing the many achievements and successes for the Lord. I still remember your moving and Spirit-infused rendition of "Tomorrow" sung at Greater New York Academy when I was your student there. May the Lord continue to guide and bless you and the "Worship the Great I Am" ministry.

Diane Odom Alexander Hi Gina. I got the email of your newsletter. Congrats and keep up the good work. Worship and the Word The Impactful Teachings of Rev. Dennis Dillon Pastor Dennis Dillon is recognized among the most dynamic conference speakers and preachers of his era, and he has ministered in some of the largest venues. The New York Daily News and other publications list him among the city‟s 25 most influential Black New Yorkers. Pastor Dillon has an impressive record of accomplishments, including the leveraging of hundreds of millions of dollars to the community and guiding two of the nation‟s largest negotiated corporate-community settlements. The author of two books and several research reports, he has appeared on ABC, CNN, FOX, HBO, BBC and a host of other national and local media.

The Black Church Means Business (Origins) In 1994, The New York Christian Times organized over 400 of the region's strongest Black churches and presented, at the Jacob Javits Convention Center, a 2-day business and community development conference called "The Black Church Means Business". Over 2000 Black-owned businesses, 7 government agencies, and many major corporations, banking institutions and media outlets participated. From this initial event came the largest homeownership initiative to be pioneered through first-time homebuyers‟ seminars in Black churches in a major U.S. city. Faith lending initiatives by major banks, church-led financial seminars and economic literacy campaigns, church-run community development corporations, business successes and many successful corporate partnerships resulted from this conference and the many events that followed. With a strong commitment to economic revival in New York's underserved communities, the Black Church Means Business Conference sets the stage. Thousands of New Yorkers are inspired and motivated around the agenda of financial literacy, business development and economic empowerment. Over the past 4 years, the conference has brought together more than 8,000 participants. Crain's New York Business wrote in the December 11, 1995, issue: "The robust economic agenda within the Black religious community burst into the open a year ago with an exposition, "The Black Church Means Business" ". Since the first conference in 1994, The New York Christian Times has consistently led the way and maintained annual conferences, workshops and seminars on relevant business issues. *Faith Facility and Finance Symposium* Singing, “Worship The Great I Am”, gave me the wonderful opportunity to open the “Faith Facility and Finance Symposium” for church and organization leaders. This symposium covering health benefits, retirement and financial planning, endowments and real estate development was an initiative of An Economic Literacy Coalition, Christian Times, Office of the Queens Borough President, Clergy United for Community Empowerment and The Black Church Means Business. The Faith Facility and Finance Symposium was held on Friday November 12, 2010 at Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral of New York located in Jamaica, NY at 9:30 am. The key note speaker was Rev. Dr. Johnny Ray Youngblood. “The Rev. Dr. Johnny Ray Youngblood, senior pastor of the St. Paul Community Baptist Church and Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, has fostered the growth of the congregations and the inception of community programs. He is recognized on the national political front because of his work with East Brooklyn Congregations (EBC), an affiliate of the Industrial Areas Foundation. He spearheaded the Nehemiah Housing Project, which constructs owner-occupied single family homes in three of the most devastated communities in Brooklyn. He serves as a national spokesman for the group and in 1990 was recognized and written up in the Congressional Record for his trailblazing work with the project. The Reverend Dr. Youngblood is the subject of the book, Upon This Rock: The Miracles of a Black Church, written by Samuel G. Freedman. In December of 1995, Dr. Youngblood was featured in The New Yorker magazine as one of the “ten most influential” New Yorkers.” Rev. Youngblood‟s symposium speech encouraged and empowered churches and Non-Profits to redeem and transform neighborhoods. The other conference speakers and presenters are listed below.

Stand Every Morning to Thank and Praise the Lord Concert Series I got this idea from Gary Anglin, one of the Ministers of Music for Christian Cultural Center (Senior Pastor: Rev. Dr. A.R. Bernard). We were sitting at a round table during the repast for the late Sister Lynda Bryant. I decided to ask a few questions and in our conversation told him that I am the Minister of Music for a small church that has grown in attendance from 4 to 12 people. Gary intuitively said that he too began as the Minister of Music in a small church of 25 members; he planned concerts featuring various artists and that helped increase the membership. I was hesitant to use the idea because “In The Presence Of His Majesty …” meets at eight in the morning. Who has 8:00 am concerts? Anyway, this thought kept reoccurring in my mind. Finally, I listened to the Holy Spirit and began research on morning worship. Hallelujah! I found scriptures to stand on; morning worship was practiced by the Levites. Upon reading 1st Chronicles 23:30, I was encouraged, and started planning this concert series. They are also to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord, and likewise at evening, 1 Chronicles 23:30 Amplified Bible

Because You Asked I enjoy helping others. However, I told a very persistent individual the other day, “No! I am not a Grammy Winner… Take your song to the professionals for a real critique. That‟s what I do.” People ask me so many questions and I am now learning the answers to them. How can I worship like you, make CDs, photos, websites, barcodes, news letter, why write the song, inspiration and the list goes on. So instead of just writing about what I am doing, I‟ll also write about what I am learning! So, I‟ll be sharing bullet points of things learned about ministry and the business of Christian music. Let me know if this information is useful. Why? Because you asked! Psalm 150: 1-6. Every time you see the word “praise” in Psalm 150:1-6, it literally means the Hebrew word Halal. Halal means praise. Halal is a word that describes having a fit; clamorously, without reservation to uplift and praise the Lord. To rave about clamorously without reservation to have a fit before the Lord. Psalm 150:1-6 (New International Version, ©2011) 1 Praise the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. 2 Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. 3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, 4 praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe, 5 praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals. 6 Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD. Worship is a lifestyle. It is something you do all the time. Max Dupree, in his book “Leadership Jazz”, says that you must first define reality, be the last to say thank you and in between, to be a servant. Make sure your songs are real and not unscriptural (ex. baby angels with wings). We are a Part of Heaven‟s Focused Leadership A great model for us to pattern our selves after is David. Acts 13:22 Acts 13:22 (New International Version, ©2011) 22 After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: „I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.‟

BUSINESS: Gospel Music Association (GMA) True to its mission (to expose, promote and celebrate the Gospel through music), GMA offers a song critique service for members and non-members. In addition, the association provides articles on topics such as creating demos, press kits and marketing that I found quite informative. Founded in 1964, the Gospel Music Association serves as the face and voice for the Christian/Gospel music community and is dedicated to exposing, promoting and celebrating the gospel through music of all styles including pop, rock, praise & worship, black gospel, R&B, hip hop, southern gospel, country, and more. The GMA community consists of 4,000 members includes agents, artists, church leaders, managers, promoters, radio personnel, record company executives, retailers, songwriters, and other industry visionaries.
