Mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package. “What food might this contain?” The mouse wondered - he was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap. Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning. “There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!” The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, “Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it.” The mouse turned to the pig and told him, “There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!” The pig sympathized, but said, “I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured you are in my prayers.” The mouse turned to the cow and said “There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!” The cow said, “Wow, Mr. Mouse. I’m sorry for you, but it’s no skin off my nose.” So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer’s mousetrap alone. That very night a sound was heard throughout the house — like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey. The farmer’s wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught. The snake bit the farmer’s wife. The farmer rushed her to the hospital, and she returned home with a fever. Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup’s main ingredient. But his wife’s sickness continued, so friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig. The farmer’s wife did not get well; she died. So many people came for her funeral, the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them. The mouse looked upon it all from his crack in the wall with great sadness. So, the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and think it doesn’t concern you, remember — when one of us is threatened, we are all at risk. We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another.

In the Middle Ages, sugar was a treasured luxury costing 9 times as much as milk. Over 90% of all fish caught are caught in the northern hemisphere. Tea is said to have been discovered in 2737 BC by a Chinese emperor when some tea leaves accidentally blew into a pot of boiling water. Three quarters of fish caught are eaten – the other quarter is used to make things such as glue, soap, margarine and fertilizer. In the 1950’s some 80% of chickens in Europe and the US were free-ranging. By 1980, it was only 1%. Today, about 13% of chickens in the West are free-ranging.

From The Editor It’s getting hot out. Hard for the younger generation to realize, that when most of us older folk went to school, that we didn’t have air conditioning. By the time I went to high school (which is the Rockcastle middle school now,) there was air there, but in grade school I can’t really recall that we even had fans, but I do remember the windows being open. I guess it’s a good thing that we weren’t there in the summer months.

It’s been wisely said that “If He is not Lord of all He is not Lord at all. If we do not value Him above all, we do not really value Him at all.” Strong are words that find their conclusion when we say, “Jesus Christ, Savior and Lord .” There is a natural progression that begins with Jesus as our Savior and ends with Him as our Lord. Shouting in a loud voice with words that came from the bottom of his heart, David proclaimed, “Be exalted, 0 God, above the heavens; let Your glory be over all the earth.” With God being Who He is and What He is and you and I being who we are and what we are, establishes a very specific relationship. It declares His role and our role: He is our Sovereign. And as our Sovereign we are to be submissive to Him. All that we
are or ever will be and all that we have or ever will have is a result of the grace and mercy that comes from Him: our Sovereign. If God were not Sovereign, He would have no authority to dispense grace and mercy. That is what sovereigns do: they rule over their subjects and choose who will receive their favor. And the more power that any sovereign has the more important and precious is the grace and mercy they bestow upon their subjects. Our Sovereign said, “Whoever chooses me to be their Savior and Lord will receive my love, mercy and grace and will have eternal life with me.” He also said, “Remember I am with you every step of life’s journey to protect you.” No wonder David said, “Be exalted, 0 God.” Visit us at: SowerMinistries.org PS 133

1. The fees are often high. Since a reverse mortgage is a loan, you are going to have loan-related fees. A reverse mortgage is a home equity loan that isn’t decided based on your income or your credit score. As a result, there are unique risks to the lender, and some of those risks are offset by charging higher fees at the outset. 2. High interest rate. The interest rate on a reverse mortgage is often higher than the rate for a more traditional home equity loan. Between the up-front fees on the reverse mortgage and the high interest charges, you might be surprised at how little money you actually end up getting. It’s your equity, but the bank gets an awful lot of it.
After Hours & Mobile (606)669-0328
Five reasons to think twice about getting a reverse mortgage:
Only FTD Florist in Crab Orchard or Stanford.
3. Your heirs might not get the house. When you get a reverse mortgage, you aren’t expected to make payments on the loan. Instead, the loan is paid off when you sell your home. So, if you die, the home is supposed to be sold so that it can cover the loan amount. This means your heirs can’t have the house. It is possible for your heirs to keep the house if they pay off the reverse mortgage after you die. However, this usually means that the money has to come out of the estate, reducing the total that your children and grandchildren end up with. For someone hoping to leave a legacy, this can be a real drawback. 4. You have to repay the loan when you move out. Dying isn’t the only way that repayment on a reverse mortgage is triggered. In order to avoid making payments on the loan, you have to be living most of the time in your primary residence. You are considered “moved out” if you haven’t lived in the home for a year. This includes if you enter a long-term care facility. So, if you are no longer able to stay in your home, but you haven’t died, you have to start repaying your reverse mortgage—at a time when money is likely already tight. This can put a real strain on your budget. 5. You’re still responsible for home costs. Throughout all of this, you are still responsible for your home costs. You have to pay property taxes, keep up with the homeowners insurance, and pay for regular maintenance on the home. If you have enough equity, you can get a reverse mortgage big enough to cover all these expenses, but it can be a difficult situation nonetheless. Before deciding to get a reverse mortgage, carefully think through the situation. The high costs, combined with the difficulties that can arise if you want to move out of the house or leave property to your heirs, can make a reverse mortgage more trouble than it’s worth. A better solution if you’re strapped for funds is to set your retirement number and then look for creative solutions to help you retire without the negative baggage of a reverse mortgage.
Kentucky Treasurer Allison Ball is warning residents about a check fraud scam that seeks to steal the identity of Kentuckians. The scam is designed to get the check recipient to give away their personal information. A check is sent in the mail and the recipient tries to deposit the check, but it is rejected. The person emails the contact on the “Instruction Letter” to get their money, scammers ask for bank account information and the person’s name. Once this happens the scammer has the victim’s personal information. It has the “Instruction Letter” signed as ‘Mrs. Alison Lundergran Grimes’ (the Secretary of State of KY) and she is called the “Finance Manager”. Treasurer Ball says this is why the Secretary of State’s Office was notified. Ball says, “This is a very sophisticated scam. These fake checks have continued to come in. My office doesn’t tolerate people writing fake checks to prey on the good nature of Kentuckians. I hope the Attorney General’s Office works hard to swiftly and quickly prosecute those responsible. “Seek caution when giving out your bank information. The Kentucky State Treasury will continue to be a watchdog for the people.”

Caring For The Animals In The World’s Zoos And Aquariums (NAPSI)—Did you know that more people visit zoos and aquariums each year than attend all sporting events combined? This seemingly surprising statistic shows what we’ve all known for millennia...that we have a remarkably deep emotional connection with the animals who share our world. And yet that connection is in danger of disappearing. In the face of what scientists are calling a “Sixth Extinction” with species disappearing at a rate 8-100 times higher than expected since 1900, today’s zoos and aquariums are playing an increasingly important role in preserving the vital web of life on Earth. Serving as arks of hope for endangered animals and powerful ambassadors for conservation, these institutions are cultivating new generations who care about the future of these creatures. Through zoos and aquariums, people are becoming increasingly aware of and invested in the fate of the world’s animals. At the same time, they are also rightly demanding that the millions of creatures who live in human care at zoos, aquariums and conservation centers be afforded good treatment and welfare.
which has been leading the compassion movement for 140 years and is the largest certifier of the humane treatment of animals, developed the first-ever independent, science-based, third-party humane certification program focusing solely on the wellbeing of the animals living in zoos and aquariums. This new Humane Conservation™ program is based on comprehensive standards created by an independent Scientific Advisory Committee consisting of the most well-respected, iconic names in animal welfare, animal ethics, and the conservation community. The standards cover everything from good health to good housing, good feeding, good management, and appropriate behaviors, and their implementation is verified through rigorous audits by a completely independent third party.
“People won’t protect what they don’t love, and they can’t love what they don’t know,” said Dr. Robin Ganzert, American Humane Association president and CEO. “Zoos and aquariums fill an important, lifesaving role in the quest to save the magnificent creatures who share our world, but at the same time it is important that these facilities treat their animals huTo help achieve this, Ameri- manely. When consumers visit can Humane Association, a zoo, aquarium or conserva-
tion park they want to know that the institution is committed to the welfare and wellbeing of its animals. This new Humane Conservation certification program will help ensure that, elevating institutions that do it right from those that need to improve their standards or close their doors. In this way, we may all do our part to help preserve disappearing species, while continuing to enjoy and introduce our children and grandchildren to the magnificent creatures with whom we share the Earth.” To learn more about Ameri-
